- We skedaddle out of Mitchell SD on Leg 2 of Day of #epictrek2021 in a race against the rising density altitude & convective activity to reach our goal of Laurel MT. Along the way my wingman gets schooled in basic aircraft & cockpit systems, we pay homage during the “Matt Guthmiller Snack Break”, and an up close flyby of Mt Rushmore & Crazy Horse - check it out! The last hour of the trip is filled with wonder at the rising, rocky terrain and first glimpse of the Tetons. All we wanted after our 9 hour flight day was a bed, ‘cause we have a date with Yellowstone in the morning!

We flew our Comanche from KGRE in IL to KRAP this summer, rented a car and visited Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, the Bad Lands and the black hills area in general for a few days with the kids. Was a good trip, Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse are much more impressive from the ground.
I would agree
Son can help with checking for traffic once in a while 😂
ha! he does a great job helping me, but most of it gets left on the cutting room floor! :)
@@6ZeroAlpha yip the new generation loves sleeping 😂
great trip and video, thanks for sharing. What king of actual fuel burn did you average on the trip? We are looking at the six's and gathering information. thx.
thx for watching and the feedback. I planned 15 gph based on my plane, actual varied between 14-17 dependent on flight conditions, most owners will tell you 16 is a good estimate for a non-turbo six
Greaet Video :)
Thank you so much! it really helps for future planning !!
you guys flew mt.Rushmore around 8500??
awesome, thank you, glad you are inspired! Correct, we filed at 8500 on that leg, higher the further west we went! We filed 10,500 on the Yellowstone and Reno legs
@@6ZeroAlphathank you :)
Good stuff! I’m curious what was your total distance and flight time for these first 2 legs? Also, great lessons, when does your copilot get his license??
roughly 1100 nm and 8.5 hrs total flight time
