- My first roll of Kentmere 400 medium format 120 film in my new-to-me Mamiya M645 medium format camera was the recently released Kentmere 400 black and white pan film. I've come to love this film with my 35mm shooting, and see no reason so far to change that opinion with this first roll of medium format size.
I wander the streets of Indianapolis in search of 15 quick frames of images (and they do go quick!) that I could run through the camera, then get home and hand-develop the roll in Cinestill DF96 mono developer. I will have an upcoming video on this developing process, which I also love!
CINESTILL DF96 BLACK & WHITE DEVELOPER
This stuff is incredible! No more smelly fixer or two-bath process. Just mix this (easy), pour it in container, agitate for 3 minutes (yes, only three minutes), drain, rinse with distilled water (I do anyway), then let sit in photoflo/distilled water for four minutes - easy peazy!
The worries of too much development, dilution, time or agitation are gone. Stop bath? Fixer? Hardener? Gone the way of One-Hour-Photos and formaldehyde. Finally, foolproof at home film processing. Many of the pitfalls and hazards of a multi-bath process are eliminated, such as improper dilution, over-agitation, bubble marks, surge marks, etc. Over-processing is impossible, because the fixing action overtakes chemical development while aiding physical development, creating better image uniformity and finer grain negatives.
Purists may not like it, but my photography is for me and I like the quicker process, less chemicals, and results are just fine with me!

Another upcoming video will be a complete overview on how to use the Mamiya M645. While there are a lot of videos regarding this camera, there are very few that answer all the questions a new user might have or encounter on their first shoot. Look for that soon!

Hi Jason
It was great watching this video!! Not too often have I watched a video on street photography with a medium format camera!! But if there's a photographer who could use any camera for street photography it would be you!! You have a natural gift for street photography!!
Best
Duane
Hey thanks Duane! Hope you're doing well over the holidays my friend!
Hi Jason, great to have you back. The Mamiya 645 was one of my favorite cameras in the 90s. Unfortunately the camera broke and could not be repaired so I sold it. But I had a lot of fun with that heavy thing. Greetings from The Netherlands (Marcel)
Thanks Marcel! I've been wanting to get into medium format film for a while now - excited that I finally did! Got a great deal on the M645 and having a blast running film through it!
yer back!
Trying to make a comeback! Life keeps getting in the way lol
Great to the M645 on the street and really liked those shots. BTW, @gregcarrick just posted a video talking about how there's no "right" gear for street and that you can evdn use medium format. Boom!
It's all a 'frame of mind' so to speak! If you act like you know what you're doing, don't give off creeper vibes, and smile/make eye contact when needed, you can get some great shots on the street and people will even participate and help you out. Thanks so much for watching. This is my first shoot with my 'new to me' M645 so I'll be taking it out quite a bit this winter. Lucky I work downtown and have the opportunities. Thanks again!
The ‘Doz’ is back….👍 Missed ya brother, hope things are going well… Giving MF a try, images looking good
hey! Thanks my friend!
