Classic Cars found along the roadside shot on Kentmere 100 film with a Mamiya M645

  • I loaded a roll of Kentmere 100 black and white 120 film, already my favorite brand, into my Mamiya M645 manual camera with the 55-110mm very sharp Mamiya C zoom lens and headed out to specifically shoot an old car on display on a rural property not too far from my home on nice, sunny late afternoon. But a bonus for this day was a second car, an old Biscayne that was sitting along the road with a for sale sign in the window.
The light could not have been better or more suited for photos of the interior of the vehicle through the windows, which always makes a nice image.
The photos I got from this shoot were very nice, and I'm happy with all of them. The LightMeter App on my phone did a great job of nailing the exposure, but my only regret was my mistake of not getting a basic photo of each car in totality. I shot some excellent angles that I was very happy with, but again, I wish I had a shot of each car showing what it looked like in full. Lesson learned for next time I come across such a subject.
A majority of the images were shot at either 1/250 at f/11, or 1/125 at f/16. These are basically the same exposure settings, but with the lower shutter speed you get a little better depth of field by using f/16. On most lenses I try to stay between f/8 and f/11, which is usually the sharpest apertures in most lenses, but I have no problems going up at high as f/16 if needed. I feel like it's better to either increase or decrease the shutter speed in order to get the aperture I want, instead of going with the highest shutter speed, but a small aperture with limited depth of field, unless that's the effect I'm going for.
So let's take a look at the shoot and I'll be back to wrap up my thoughts about the Kentmere 100 medium format film in the Mamiya M645 at the end of the video.

All images scanned on my Epson v600 scanner, producing tif files straight from the scanner, no Negative Lab Pro used for these images. Again, I was extremely satisfied with the photos, and plan to shoot a lot more Kentmere in the future.

I like the way you talk through your shots, not instructional per se, but as though you are talking yourself through the process. Very personal and unique. Nice choice of subject also.
