I have absolutely seen long skinny bathrooms, and honestly find them really useful in the Sims when all you want is a half-bath.

Yep! My parents have one in their (modified) 1930's house, and we have one in our 2015 new build. An old friend of mine had one in their 1600s farmhouse, so I guess they are pretty common in the UK!

About the money thing, what I've been doing is going to a brand new plot for each generation and having "inheritance money" split between siblings. Plus I play it long and do university for all and have this mod that makes tuition fees expensive and allowing for the loans to just RACK UP. Really helps make it go from riches to rags to riches real quick.

Let me add to the skinny bathroom debate: my friend who lives in a very old apartment in the city has such a ridiculously long and skinny bathroom, I had to laugh for the first time I saw it. We call them "half baths" here in the US because they're "half" a bathroom. People call them "powder rooms" when they're trying to be fancy about it.. lol. It's really meant to be called a restroom. I'd say they only became common in the past like 25 years. Until then it was common to just have like one bathroom.. maybe two. Now it's common to have about 1 bathroom for each bedroom plus an extra half-bath for guests and convenience.

That being said, I’ve definitely seen skinny half baths. In the UK they often do bathrooms under the stairs and it drives me a little crazy that it can’t be done nicely in the sims.

I actually really like the idea of a bunch of glass doors leading out into the patio/backyard. If you're entertaining a lot it could keep things from bottlenecking when food and people are going outside and/or trying to get back inside to clean up or get out of the rain. Or if you kept them all open it would sort of extend the entertaining space between the house and the patio.

Luckily.. the floor tiles that were not the ones we ordered did fit in well!

But in order to stand in front of the sink the slanted part of the staircase was over the toilet. I often worried that any guest about 6' would have to be careful getting up from the toilet or else they might hit their head. But it was a great way of using every inch of space in a practical way.

It's funny, you're talking about what's available in the base game & my mind went back to base game for the Sims 2 & how that worked out great for me but then I remembered, only reason why it did is because I downloaded so much custom content. I bought the Sims 2 when it first released which was something I was so proud of at the time, I was born in September & held back a year so when the game released, I was 13 & all the kids in my grade level were 11 & 12 years old. My parents actually got me the first Sims game as a present for my 12th birthday since my friend who was pretty much the same age as me, we met before I was held back, had the Sims so I got to play it when I was 11 but it varies from parent to parent. Anyways, I bragged so much at school that I got to play the Sims 2, I was so mean back then, lots of kids were like "no fair, my parents won't let me play it!" Wow, I got way off track. Point is because I got it when it released, there were no expansions yet & this is coming off of my experience playing the first Sims game & in the first one I had Unleashed, Night Life, Vacations, Living Large, Making Magic, & I think more but I don't exactly remember, I do still have the cases somewhere in storage so I could probably check it out one day. It was going back to basics & I think since so much had changed like the babies actually grew up & you could do more to customize your sims & stuff, I was too distracted by the fact all there was was the base game. My friend however discovered that over on the Sims 2 website, people uploaded their own content that you could download & she showed off some builds she did with it & I was extremely jealous so she showed me how to do it & wow, I downloaded so many crazy things, I even got a social bunny costume for my sims. Once Pets was released, I did buy that but I didn't get any other expansions because I felt like I didn't need them. Currently, things have changed so dang much, I actually hardly touched 3 & 4, I bought both when they were brand new but I always found myself going back to the Sims 2 & had a hard time adjusting to the newer games. I want to get back into it since I had so much fun with the older games & seeing a build with just the base game makes me happy, like all the stuff you can get with the expansions & other stuff is super cool, I probably will purchase some of it, but like I also remember that I had a blast playing the Sims 2 without expansions, you can say I heavily cheated but at the time, there wasn't any to add on so what do you expect? Dang, if I still have all the discs from the Sims 1, I should probably see if I can actually download it onto a current computer & get so ticked with the game that I end up murdering babies again, the fact that they don't grow up makes you never want to have babies in that game I swear. I know my discs for the Sims 2 doesn't work, I tried installing them onto another computer years later, this was a different time so I wonder if stuff I did to the game back then ended up ruining it. I bought a copy from the same era as mine from Goodwill for $5 since mine wasn't working & that downloaded with no issue, I played it for a while again & when my former roommate & I parted ways, I let her keep it because it was $5 & I didn't mind parting ways with it, this was actually sometime after the 4th game released because our lease ended early 2015 & I got the 4th game as a birthday present back in September 2014 so I wasn't even playing 2 much at all anymore, I still went back to it because the 4th one was confusing for me but it's like, I have the new game so my roommate can have the old one.

I don't even have a full size bathroom in my flat now, half size tub, no shower, really small sink and a toilet, all in a 3x3 space, it works its functional but definitely tight. I also know a lot of british houses with the 1x3 toilets usually used downstairs under the stairs.

I played the Not So Berry challenge last year. I had tried to do a legacy challenge a time or two and kept getting bored because my autistic self kept going for the same traits, aspirations, and jobs over and over, so I found the parameters extremely helpful. It took me from about ready to give up on the game period to being inspired to write a challenge myself in a similar style but differently themed. Now I'm working on a second one. 🙃

My aunt's house has a half-bath (some floorplans call it a "powder room", it has a sink, mirror, and toilet only) that would probably be 2 by 1 Sims tiles. It's kind of under the stairs, but I don't remember it having a sloping ceiling like most under-stairs spaces do...then again I haven't been there in 5 years so maybe there is one and I've just forgotten.
Edit: As for the other "controversial" build choice you made, I will say that I lived in a condo once that had three separate sliding glass doors in the living/dining area...and no other windows downstairs except in the downstairs bedroom and the little transoms above said sliding glass doors. And then ANOTHER sliding glass door from the basement that let out under the deck. And a FIFTH in the master bedroom that led to a tiny balcony, which was also the only windows in that room except for a skylight or two. The three on the main floor weren't all next to each other like the ones in this build are, but having multiple sliding glass doors in one room is definitely not unheard of.

My in-laws also live in a sort of townhouse style house, in Portugal, and yes... They have a long a skinny bathroom, it would be 2x1 in the sims.
The door in not on the side tho, it's like in the "front". You walk in the sink with a cabinet on your right and in front, up against the wall, you have the toilet.
My gramma also had one, more like 4x1 in the sims. And my parents have a 2x3 (they have a bathtub).

I had never really seen a super long skinny bathroom before until my dad moved into a town house that has a bathroom with the exact size and layout as the one in this house. It's kind of under the stairs (not directly as it's a full room height) but it fits since the whole place is kind of long and skinny being a town house

I finished the challenge not very long ago. I got rid of my excess money by building new homes for all the kids. Most of my generations started with very little money. They did have the sim ray though. My Mint gen passed it down as a family heirloom and it featured in every generation. If things got really tight, they could always buy really cheap furniture and transform it into expensive stuff. Also I learned the 3x1 bathroom trick from this channel and I use it (including University shower) in almost every small home build.

Oh and I always play my Sims game like simoleons is directly equivalent to pounds and so build my houses to the prices which fit with real world houses here. Except the houses in the sims come with the furniture in them whereas real life you get empty rooms apart from the kitchen and bathroom maybe. So like when we move house, in our area what we're looking for (3 bed house) in decent repair is around the £350,000 mark. So that's the kind of price I might build a 3 bed house for. And then I just use free real estate to move people in because that's basically just them getting a mortgage in my mind and makes the weekly bills seem a little more reasonable as they're usually so high otherwise (if converted one to one to pounds then they're more like a month's worth of bills not a week).

well in polish apartment building it's very common to have separate bathroom (shower and/or bathtub, sink and washing mashine), and separate toilet - I mean only toilet and it's teeny tiny, litterally a square size just to fit toilet. So... I really don't mind three tile bathrooms in Sims:D

It has a toilet and small sink/cupboard on one wall and then a small stall shower and a small closet on the other wall. Weirdly it has two doors (one on either side) and they both open inwards so there’s just enough space to have them both open and have them not touch haha.

A narrow rectangular bathroom isn’t weird at all. You should have seen the tiny full bathroom I used at my second bedsit, because that was not only long and narrow, but also a weird shape. The door was on a diagonal, and it was kind of like it would fit inside a 5x2 rectangle, but the top right and bottom left 2x1 rectangles were removed, as well as half of the left middle tile. It had a toilet, a sink, a washing machine and a shower.

Half-Baths are super normal in the UK. Every house I have lived in here has had half-bathroom, usually a small square rather than a long and skinny room, but I wouldn't find it weird at all if I went somewhere that had a skinny half-bath.

The bathroom in my childhood home was "long" and skinny. You literally opened the door and to the left (still somewhat in the doorway) was the toilet. Next to that was the sink and then we just had a shower curtain from the left wall to the right for the shower at the back. It was just a teeny tiny hallway sort of bathroom. Super narrow and with 5 kids having to get ready in the morning we had to have a time schedule for brushing our teeth and everything in the morning. Otherwise it'd get way too crowded.

So when I was a kid a few family members and friends were rich and I found in their houses, they'd have long skinny bathrooms like that. It was a half bath with a toilet and a sink and specifically on the main floor for guests. While their larger bathroom(s) with showers or tubs would be in guest room, upstairs, in bedrooms, or in basements even if the basement was set up as another guest over night area. But like they didn't have normal full bathrooms on the main floor usually.
