  • I Dont know if it is known outside the North East but to people in the North East it is an Iconic Landmark. And well loved. people outside the North East who visit the Angel of the North please visit Penshaw Monument as well. You will not be disappointed

      I dont think so Bruce it was supposed to have had one not sure if they ran out of Money

    Very nicely done. I always wondered why the stone always looks scruffy but the mortar that holds it together always looks clean.

    The design is classic but it always just looks scruffy. I used to think that it was mucky from the days of coal fires and could do with a good clean. Can it be cleaned or is there something in the nature of gritstone that condemns it to forever look filthy?

      Just me I would prefer it to stay the way it is John. That is all I have known not sure what it would look like if it got cleaned up. Thats if they could clean it

      @@colinthegeordiehistorian10 I think it is a fine monument in a good location but they made a mistake with the choice of stone. (Similar to the football club building a wonderful stadium at the seafront but then making the mistake of having the stands facing the pitch! I will however concede that the new bridge over the river is a beauty).
