  • Curlsmith has been dropping new products and lines quite a bit recently. While sometimes I feel called to try the entire line; this time however, I really only felt the need to try a couple unique stylers. So I would love to have you follow along with this review to see what my honest thoughts are on two stylers from the new volume recipe line.

    Yes products can be heavy on the hair. Try using a small amount of mousse. It worked on my hair when I used less. I also used less on the volume cream. Got better results.🥰

      I really think that Root Spray has been the biggest culprit when styling with these products. I need to try it with just a light leave-in and the mousse. Any yes, you are right, less is more with these products.

    I agree ,I've tried to hard to like the curlsmith stylers I've tried all combinations but like you I dont like the stiff producty feel and if I want to roundbrush blowdry they definitely don't work for that. I do love their shampoos and conditioners though. I wish they would do a light serum that allows you blowdry that would be prefect for us wavys that want soft silky rather than defined hold.

    I actually bought the entire volume line and like it much better than any of their other products.
    None of their other shampoos have ever cleansed my hair well enough, but I really liked the volume shampoo and conditioner. The gel mousse is very heavy so I have to remind myself to use a small amount. The products gave me great volume and I usually have pretty flat hair.

      That's great! I'm so glad you like how it works for your hair. I haven't tried the volume shampoo and conditioner, but I really like the Anti-Frizz shampoo and conditioner, as well as Scalp Recipe shampoo/scrub shampoo and conditioner.

      @@lifeoffinecurls For some reason I never had much luck with those other shampoos and conditioners. Aside from the volume shampoo I feel like their co-wash does a better job cleansing my scalp. Have you tried the co-wash?

    • @lifeoffinecurls
      @lifeoffinecurls  29 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No, I haven't, but I have heard it's pretty good. After some trial and error, I have found that I like using a cowash as my first cleanse, followed by regular shampoo. Using it that way, it helps to soften, detangle, and lift a little dirt. I don't enjoy using a cowash as my sole cleanser though.

      Exactly! Even though I had good definition with minimal frizz, I purchased them with the expectation of getting more volume.

    I purchased the three stylers in this line and I also thought that they were too much when used together. I did find a great use for the Hydrate & Plump Leave In. I’ve been using it to refresh on non wash days. I mist my hair with water until damp throughout and then rake in a small amount of the leaves in through my hair, focusing on the back of my hair at the roots for added volume. It really does a great job of adding volume to 2nd day hair. And, used by itself, it didn’t feel too producty. Thanks for your videos; I really enjoy them!!

      Another viewer also mentioned that they like the leave-in from this line. It's kind of one of those situations, "I wish I knew then what I know now," when purchasing these products, but oh well. 🤷‍♀️🙂

    My worst ever product experience was with this line, notably the mousse. I have never had any product cause sooooo much buildup. I felt like I had glue in my hair. I had to do a very deep clarifying shampoo to get it out. I tried a water solubility test on it, on hand and a glass. It didn't budge with warm water, not even with scrubbing. Never had anotjer product like that. Returned the next day.
    The leave in was OK but I was so upset that I returned all of it.

      Thanks for sharing your experience. Unfortunately, you are not alone. I definitely had a build up feeling for this video (and many others have said the same thing). I did go in very very light handed with just the mousse, and I did get pretty good results, without much of a producty feeling. But I don't think it's very user friendly. Fornthe sake of my channel, and experimenting, I would have returned it as well. I did returned the Root Boost Spray.

  • @melissastephanie1104

    I weirdly got the leave in, in part because of the much better reviews, and I really like it! NOT the volumizing lotion or whatever, but the Hydrate and Plump Leave In. I find it very moisturizing but not heavy. It seems to leave my curls juicy and hydrated, and I think it does plump them up a bit. I've been adding a little of the protein cream from the purple line (my hair always wants protein), and then top it off with the Hydro Flexi Jelly. Maybe not enough hold for some, but I'm liking it. You can always add your precious hairspray! 😉

    • @lifeoffinecurls
      @lifeoffinecurls  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      😂 I love how you say, "You can always add your precious hairspray!" 🤣
      I rarely add a leave-in and a cream on the same style. Maybe I should have tried that Plump Leave-In instead of the Root Boost Spray. Both the Feather Light Protein Cream and the Weightless Air Dry Cream can leave my hair stringy. But I do like the Hydro Style Flexi Jelly. It's not one of my favorite gels, but I do like it.

    • @melissastephanie1104
      @melissastephanie1104 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@lifeoffinecurls The feather light protein cream alone doesn't give me enough moisture. The air dry cream is decent, but not one of my favorites (I do love the scent of those two lines). I can't really explain it but I think this hydrate and plumping leave in feels different somehow. Maybe better curls clumps too??
      Keep in mind I have high porosity hair from bleach damage and it's also quite short so I can handle some products that would weigh down others' hair.

    • @melissastephanie1104

      @lifeoffinecurls  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I probably won't get the plumping leave-in, but seems highly likely that the two would make a decent combo for you since you know you like that leave-in.

    Thank you for trying this line! I enjoyed the styling lotion and the mousse. The mousse definitely gives the hair a producty feel to the hair! The styling lotion actually gave me volume for a cream.
    The scent is fruity, almost a candy scent? What do you think?
    Overall, I liked my results from the line if I don’t use too much but the scent gets too much.
    Overall, does it feel like maybe there’s something missing in this line?

    • @lifeoffinecurls
      @lifeoffinecurls  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I feel like the styling lotion in this line just replaced the one they had in the scalp care line (blue packaging). I wasn't a fan of that one at all, because it gave no additional volume, so I didn't even consider trying the one from this volume line.
      I've only tried two products from this line, but really have very little desire to try any others. Some people seem people like this line, but every curly head of hair is different, and I'm certainly not one of them.
      As far scent goes, I've not found a Curlsmith scent that I didn't like. 😊

    The volume mousse is a lil tricky to get right amount wise since it’s so thick. It gives great hold & I really need the grit! Other reviews said same thing, after first try they will do less amount and or use one from the line. But I really like it. My current best routine so far is: Verb foam gel, brush style, Ouidad smoothed & scrunched in, a lil CS volume mousse and maybe hairspray.

I’m thinking it will be great for a blow out style too. I like it so much better than other mousses I’ve tried so far anyway.

    I have the volumizing lotion, root spray, and mousse from this line. My first time using it, I used all 3 products. It felt so sticky amd producty 😕 I think the root spray made my roots feel gross (but didnt lent any more volume). • @lifeoffinecurls
      @lifeoffinecurls  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I apologize. I think my disappointment with my results clouded my thinking to give those details. The mousse does have good hold, but I never wore my hair down on Day 2 bc I couldn't stand the feeling of it (the stiffness at my roots from that Root Boost Spray). In my opinion, the frizz is very minimal, but like I said, I haven't worn it down long either time when I styled with them. Definitely recommend waiting for a real good sale if you still feel like you want to try it. 😊

    I don’t think it’s only you. It’s doesn’t seem like people have been impressed with this new launch from Curlsmith. I think they’re verging on releasing too many product lines. I just can’t deal with the incredibly strong scent of their products, so for that reason alone they’re a miss for me.

    • @lifeoffinecurls
      @lifeoffinecurls  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Usually the less layering of products I do the more volume I get (but sometimes this can compromise definition or lasting hold).
      One of my favorite affordable brands is Curl Rhythem from the Dollar General. I've used the washday products and the cream and gel. Now this combo can leave my hair feeling somewhat dry, but I've never tried the leave-in from this brand. I've also always gotten voluminous results pairing a light leave in with the Shea Moisture JBCO Strong Hold Styling Gel (it's not strong hold in my opinion).
      Some single stylers recommendations would be Lottabody Wrap Me Up Mousse and Soultanical's Clump & Curl Peach Custard (I hope they bring it back later this summer).
      Playing around with other foams or mousse would be a great place to start as well. You may have to pair them with a leave-in or you may be able to use them on their own.
