Kenny, Thank you for this. It´s an enormous blessing. I can´t begin to describe who much i agree on how you see Julian... it reminds me of something i once wrote about him on a music forum "I am a Julian fan, but the smile must be one of the most unmentioned things of his art. It´s very but very rare to find someone which such a mastery that can enjoy, smile and be so pure while doing it. Most people would be on such a concentrated flow (not that there´s something wrong with it of course) Every time i listen and watch him play i can have a display of what freedom really is. I have never seen someone so much in control of what he makes and what he produces. Never someone who does it so spontaneusly. The smile is what makes you see that. He´s enjoying the hell out of everything that comes from his instrument. And it´s the most pure bliss. Not one connected to an egotistic feeling such as "Heck i can play" but more like "wow, that sounded so nice" He seems like someone with a deep love or music, and the universe of sound. And by the way, he seems and feels happily surprised lots of times by the outcome of what he´s producing himself. He really PLAYS music as in the in the ludic sense of the word. And there´s something else. ... Nothing is calculated. He´s taking risks all the time, and even has a blast if things turn a little bit funny on one of those attempts.I feel blessed to be around in the age of such a player...."
"In my mind; it's not Music anymore. Whatever that was has more to do with society or something...I started to think about Music more like breathing. First of all: I don't necessarily have to watch someone else breath. And I don't really talk about my breathing. And when I'm done breathing, I don't really think back to it, "Boy, I was really was breathing good there!""-Kenny Werner @ 49:33 This is something I keep coming back to. I get it more at 35 than I did at 33, and look forward to continue to understand it more in however much time left of good earth we got
17:00 Systemic racism? Lost me there. Thought this is a discussion about musical ideas. Calling people racist who you don't even know is quite narrow minded.
