    Thank you for this video. I replaced the ancient battery in my 1995 Miata, but the headlights were the only thing that worked. I followed your instructions, replaced the fuse, and it starts right up. I jumped the car over and over again and it blew that fuse just like you said.

    Had a 98 Nissan Frontier that had a red ground cable and a black power thanks to the previous owner. Eventually had to jump it and as you can guess, blew the 80 amp battery fuse. Great vid, definitely something that can easily be overlooked!

    I had a similar experience in my 2001 Miata three years ago. It would crank but not start. Had it towed into a Mazda dealership, whose head mechanic had 40+ years of dealership experience? They said it was the immobilizer and would be $2500+ to replace with remanufactured parts from Mazda. I chose to get one out of a recycler and had it shipped to the dealership. They did the work and all seemed well for two days. About $1100 out the door with my supplied parts and their labor. Then I again noticed that when it would crank and not start, that the check engine light would not come on when ignition key was in the first on position! Turns out it was the main relay. Got a used one shipped to me for $12.00. Swappd them out in about 1 minute and it has been perfect for three years! I sued the dealership and got refunded $500 of the the labor. I also bought a brand new main replay to always have with me along with a camshaft position sensor and a crankshaft position sensor which are known to wear out and cause crank but no start situation!
    I should also mention that about five years ago I had another sudden crank but no start and had it towed to another Mazda dealership. They diagnosed the problem as a bad crankshaft position sensor. They ordered part. Installed it. Still no start. THEN they replaced the main relay and problem solved. I should have sued them too, but did not.

    Morning MM, have been looking into an electrical issue with my Eunos.
    Had done the other usual bits, & was going to go on the hunt for earth straps - thinking that the no start & no dash lights might be a similar issue I’ve had with my 38 year SJ.
    It’s just gone midnight in the UK on a Sunday night - so I’m not going out now to look at it.
    The car is a ‘95 1.8 & has been in storage for 7 years. Drove into storage but nothing when I went to get it out 2 days ago, so had to get it trailered - heart breaking.
    Going to have a look tomorrow, to be honest it’s the only thing I haven’t checked.
    I will put another comment on here ether way, if it starts or not.
    Thanks for the information Man.

    Amazing how one little fuse can disable an entire car. Its sad how the original seller just gave up on it and didn't bother diagnosing it. Oh well, his loss. I don't even own a NA Miata yet but at least now I know what to do should this ever happen to me whenever I do own one.

I was wondering, in this case why do the headlights pop up, I thought that _everything_ went through the 80 amp? By the way, I'm also trying to find my way around the engine compartment. What is that block with the three pipes immediately to the right of the fuse box?

    I do not know how to reach out and contact you, so I will use this post. I have a 1992 Miata and will NOT start. It cranks, but no start. So, the starter works. Next steps for me are to check fuel pressure and ignition spark. But, I noticed there is an Anti Theft module installed. There is NO model number and no product info. It looks almost like factory installed becuase of the wire harnesess. I am not sure if this module is de-activating the car from starting. Does anyone know anything these anti theft modules?

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for reaching out.
      It could be the anti theft system. Is there an in-line fuse in the wire harness going to the module?
      If so, pull the fuse and see if it starts.
      It could also be your main relay. It’s in the fuse box under the hood and is labeled “fuel inj”
      Let me know what you find out 👍

  • @domcastle1

    Would putting the positive terminal on battery first cause this? Negative terminal sparked when i put it on and popped fuse (if thats what i think caused it)
    What do you think?

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It shouldn’t make a difference which one you put on first.
      The consensus is to always connect the negative last.
      However, it’s safer and easier to connect the negative first on NA Miatas.
      If there is power flowing, you will usually see a quick spark when re-connecting battery terminals. Happens on the positive or negative terminal.
      You may have an issue somewhere else in the system.

    So I have a question I haven’t messed much with it but brand new battery, everything lights up and when you go to crank the car it kills everything. You pull the key out wait a few seconds and power comes back and you can try again but same result. The only way you can fire up the car is with a jump. Any idea why it doesn’t like the juice just from the car battery. I didn’t use to have this issue. BTW the main 80A is hard wired how I got the car. Thanks

    Our 2004 Jeep Liberty has a parasitic draw. I turns one once it's jumped with jumper cables, but dies completely the next day (no clicking sound, nothing on dashboard...completely dead) If we inspect the large amp in the fuse box in the hood, and see if there's a blown large fuse, do you think it'll fix our problem? Please help, thank you so much!

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      A parasitic draw can come from many places. It’s usually a faulty component that’s not turning off after the key has. Even removed.
      Try pulling out the radio fuse and see if the problem is resolved.
      Faulty radios are often the cause of this sort of drain.

    • @MiataMan
      @MiataMan  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The small AGM batteries that are used in Miatas don’t last. They have a tendency to develop bad cells and die prematurely if not maintained. A conventional lead acid battery has more cold cranking amps, lasts longer and is cheaper.
      The group size of the battery is 51RPS.
      Note:
      It’s always a good idea to check your battery periodically for leakage.
