Man, the Star Wars rabbit hole is DEEP... Like, at some point I'm sure I'll be engaged by a 20 minute video explaining bathrooms in the Star Wars universe.
@@timur5241 Thats likely, in things like legends and Kotor Wookies seem quite stubborn about Tradition and the use of outside technology. Translator machines would probably just piss them off.
Exactly! For one of my classes I have to make a video about a character who has a communication disorder, so of course I had to find a way to connect Star Wars. This is actually a very good example of how disabilities have advantages.
I could see a Wookie having a translation device around their neck that could interpret their language into the galactic basic, but aside from that it would just look and sound weird after all this time to have a Wookie speaking basic. It would be is out of place as an ewok a Jawa or a tusken Raider speaking the language of Galactic basic.
I could be wrong about this, but when I read the book, I was under the impression he was speaking the Wookie language with a speech impediment, not Basic. For whatever reason, his pronunciations were easier for non-native Shrywook (sic?) speakers to understand, like Leia.
Loved this one. I always wondered about this topic. But here’s one for you Bessy or others familiar w Canon - could C3PO speak Wookie? He did boast about his thousands of languages so I’m curious about this
Couldn't Lowbacca speak Basic? Jaina and Jacen and Anakin were always talking with him. He was a Jedi so I assumed he figured out how to do it. But maybe the Solos just understood Shiirywook like their dad. They could all probably just feel each other's emotions. But I swear in the New Jedi Order novels that Lowbacca could speak Basic
yea but how hard was it to put FREAKING SUBTITLES ON THE WOOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the star wars special might have been more tolerable had we any idea what they were saying XD
Just a colloquialism for the title so that everyone who sees it would instantly understand what he’s talking about; in the video, he clarifies that he’s referring to “Basic” (Star Wars code for “whatever language you’re watching/reading this in,” English in this case).
What you ask is can a dog speak like a human and the answer is NO! If they had the same intelligence like us they would not have our vocal cords and thus cant speak like us. On the other hand we have other animals with more advanced vocal cords like birds, and they CAN say human words for sure even if they have no idea what they say. I had a few birds with a big vocabulary and its the funnies thing in the world and sometimes they say the darnest things, you want to believe they understand) So I guess your question is just wrong. Unless this special wookie is a mutant that had vocal cords that was able to make the right sounds.
Argghhhhh Arghghgg!
BessY araaagh gaaara?!
Aaaaaaaarrrggghhhhh!!!! Arg arg.... AAARRRGH?
BessY I would love to see that
BessY I feel it's about time that they bridge legend's and Canon together
You mean galactic basic?
I can't even speak human...

What about the droid attack on the wookies?
Of course, i know the feeling of [MUST INSERT MEME HERE]

When listening to the audiobook for Heir To The Empire, Marc Thompson's impression of this wookie was awesome xD
That's me playing moded kotor by the way
Why can't they use that one translator thing. An Ithorian wore one in the Clone wars series.
Maybe they don't want to?

This is an odd one, but I really like the idea of a speech impediment allowing a being to actually better speak another language.
Exactly! For one of my classes I have to make a video about a character who has a communication disorder, so of course I had to find a way to connect Star Wars. This is actually a very good example of how disabilities have advantages.
I love how the wookies know basic, they understand it, but they are just unable to speak it, it makes it so much more fun.
True
I forgot about this guy. Thanks for bringing him back to my rememberance.
Great to know this it
yes we need a wookie to speak in Galaxy Basic but with a British accent or maybe a strong drunk Australian accent
D Hawkinson Ahem,its *Galactic Basic.*
I remember reading that book. He had a speech impediment that meant he could speak basic
This English-speaking Wookie needs to be Canon
LIKE NOW!
it is canon. everything before disney is canon.
I've always wanted one of the characters to have a dream sequence or a vision in which Chewie and Artoo can be understood in Basic.
Is cool
I'm trying to imagine what he would sound and look like while he was talking
Great video!
Chewbacca be like in front of kylo
-Fahack youauaargh !!!
I like how you do these videos. Keep it up. I will keep watching.
Could u imagine if all wookie's spoke clear english and the rest of the galaxy spoke wookie
"Wuhuuguughghg Wyaaaaaa"
- Chewbacca
OMG I WAS JUST THINKING YESTERDAY IF THERE WERE WOOKIES THAT COULD SPEAK ENGLISH!!!!!
Before I watch I believe his name was, Rara or something like that.
I'd think a wookie could get cybernetics implanted to help speak other tongues.
Thank you for putting “in legends” in the title.
I could see a Wookie having a translation device around their neck that could interpret their language into the galactic basic, but aside from that it would just look and sound weird after all this time to have a Wookie speaking basic. hoping they bring most stuff from past and future legends into canon, those legends themes are far better than the current canon crap
BessY ! What is your position about the last jedi ??
I could be wrong about this, but when I read the book, I was under the impression he was speaking the Wookie language with a speech impediment, not Basic. For whatever reason, his pronunciations were easier for non-native Shrywook (sic?) speakers to understand, like Leia.
I like my Wookies to growl, it's iconic and unique to them, having them speak basic would rob them of that uniqueness.
Many wookies seem like they know how to understand others who speak basic maybe even how to write it but thay just cant physically speak it
That spoke had respect for others salute.
RAAAAWWWWR AAWR RAWR?
!THE FORCE BE WITH YOU ALLWAYS!
Cool,it is
Sounds like a very cool wookie
How did Han understood Chewbacca video
1:47 Thrawn “Thrill-ogy?
Broken basic? Welcome to being a cashier where people barely know English.
Hey guys you know what would be amazing in Mando season 2 or 3? We discover that Gungi the Padawan survives order 66... that would be AMAZING!!!
I haven't watched the video yet but i'm gonna take a guess that it's the Wookiee from Heir to the Empire
Will you ever make a video about the droid attack on the Wookies? (serious question; not memeing)
We did but he used a druid
Lowbacca I think that's how u spell it
He was cannon till Disney screwed it up
Loved this one. I always wondered about this topic. But here’s one for you Bessy or others familiar w Canon - could C3PO speak Wookie? He did boast about his thousands of languages so I’m curious about this
OR WAS HE LYING??????????????
It was in the heir to the empire book. If you read it you all ready know the answer.
I thouht it was going to be the Jedi wookie. I highly doubt they'll do anything lime that in Canon though.
I saw robot chicken and chewie talked
1:36 Who else thought "Rasputin"?
Is it possible to learn this power?
not From palpatine
Señor Guapo underrated
Wouldn’t it be speaking Galactic Basic not speaking Human

Koenigsegg Fanboy It was growing back from when he got a flattop in Shadows of the Empire impersonating a bounty hunter named Snoova.
Ok thanks
I hope this can happen soon
A Wookiee speaking Basic?
I think it was really someone with extremely long hair and cybernetic implants. Not to mention high on spice
Couldn't Lowbacca speak Basic? Jaina and Jacen and Anakin were always talking with him. He was a Jedi so I assumed he figured out how to do it. In Star Wars they call English Basic.
Galactic Basic*
I'm not sure if that's the correct pronunciation of the Wookie lamguage, plus there are actually 2 Wookie languages.
Richard Blumberg I'm pretty sure that's not how you spell language
What's up?
Speak human...
you mean basic?
Water Warrior Thank you!
Like for Chewbacca laugh
Hello there...

Make a video about Darth Trump
Who called it Shyriiwook? because they cant pronounce that lmao
"Human" isn't a language, but ok.
Just a colloquialism for the title so that everyone who sees it would instantly understand what he’s talking about; in the video, he clarifies that he’s referring to “Basic” (Star Wars code for “whatever language you’re watching/reading this in,” English in this case).
