Damn! That broken Leica, spiral of despair.... I only got into film photography the second year of the pestilence. My purchase was the Nikon S3 2000 Limited Edition, new and unused. 1 year later, I bought a Nikon Nikomat, as a backup. These are solid and lmay well outlive me. The build quality of both, is just extraordinary. No, no Leica for me. My dream film camera is the Hasselblad 500 series. And I better get one before the prices reach into the stratosphere. I have a Nikon F2 and F3, and the Leica M3 and M4. I can say the Nikon’s are well built. When it comes to Leica’s they are tough and a work of craftsmanship, the lenses are superb. When I want to be discreet and take street shots, I definitely use the Leica. With the Leica you get less blur due to the absence of the mirror in the SLR’s.
Ignoring the expensive tag, I think rangefinders are kinda limited: no macro lens, no real zoom lens, limited tele lens. Sure, the appeal he appeal of compact and silent camera for street photography is well understood. I don't do that, though. For example, if I want to be really close, I'll grab a macro lens. Rangefinder cannot do that (easily). And don't tell me about using wide angle lens for close up. Nope, in general isn't a fan of that look. Well as much as I admire Leica rangefinders, SLR fits my shooting style better.
I had the same experience. Also I prefer that you see exactly how the end result will look like. for example you do not see the distortion different lenses will bring. Very good points @anta40
I will say there’s much to be said about why people love their Leicas. However, I too feel the same way about Leica being overrated and felt even more disdain before I had one in my hands. Even still, I’m not as enthusiastic about using my Nikon f3 as I am about using my Leica. I have the M4-P, and there's just something fun about shooting with it compared to any other camera I have, including my digital ones.
Hey, Idk if it is the case where you're from, but in the US and most of the English speaking world, referring to people from Japan using the first three letters of the word is considered really racist. Up there with some other really bad words.

Make sure you check out the M7 as well. It is actually what my friend bought. He told me when he saw the Video. I think the M7 has an auto mode. So it's a bit closer to the F3.

I think too Leica is overrated. You can get your camera repaired by an independent repairman. I have one at hand, but he's old now.
Whats broken in the leica m2? leica's are pretty easy to open up and repair yourself (dont listen to people saying you cant)
