Actually, it's not the most complicated sewing machine mechanism (as the older Necchi, Kenmore or the newer Janome stuff). It's just a straight stitch machine. But anyway it's an amazing job!
I have seen many such videos, and whilst one must admire the painstaking work generally involved in removing tons of mud and slime, the intricate disasembly, cleaning, and re-assembly, it seems that no actual mechanical repair or part replacements are ever needed. One wonders why these items are disposed of in bogs and rivers etc, when there is actually nothing wrong with them.
Such a valuable tool to have or pass on, I cannot believe this old sewing machine ended up as trash in the mud. I am old enough to say I had my first sewing lesson on one of these machines. So many parts you would think this person had the skills to take apart and put back together again.
The Janome Sewing Machine Company Ltd will be proud. This Japanese company are still manufacturing high quality sewing machines to this day, although not this model unfortunately.
I found an old electric Singer portable model 40 years ago in a junk store for $10, I'm guessing it was made in the 1930's. It was broken and some parts were missing. My wife said I was wasting my time and that it would never sew again.... I was able to still buy parts from Singer and was able to fix it. It took a while to do it as I had never tried to repair anything like this before, and had no directions or schematics and 'timing' it was all trial and error but in the end I got it humming again and it still sews like a champ to this day. It's a great feeling when you can bring something like that back to life...….
@Natasha S.... Yes, an heirloom for sure; those Singer Portables are real collectables and can fetch a pretty price today. My wife still pulls it out on occasion and does a little sewing. I imagine it will be passed on to one of my granddaughters someday.....
This video made me very emotional, since when this machine comes out of the water and the situation it was in and how you managed to leave the machine loves new look, it was like a miracle with your dedication, really it's a wonderful job. I really like the old machines.
What a great job, it is a pleasure to see the restoration and imagine that it works again. I have a Singer that I inherited from my grandmother, my mother's mother, is from 1819 and still works. These machines are well greased and occasionally changing the belt that turns the steering wheel to the compass of the pedal does a discreet but efficient work. Thank you very much for teaching your work.

Isn’t it just amazing how they just find a rust old machine and bring it back to life, seriously skilled people out there. it also shows that even tho it may not be most modern machine it has withheld extreme weather conditions they was built to last

You did an excellent job of taking the machine apart and putting it back together again. So many parts. And how you know how to put it back together again. Very impressed. Great job!!
This amazes me, it’s built like a Swiss watch. So many moving parts. The icing on the cake would have been seeing it actually stitch something 😊 otherwise well done 👍
Thanks for posting this - I really enjoyed watching it. Love these old machines. I have tried to restore 4 of them with minor rust and I can't believe how you can remember where the parts go. Amazing. My self I only took the machines I had apart a little bit and on some I couldn't figure out how the timing worked. I love the solid precision of those designs - integrity.
I though it was a Singer 201 at first. These old machines were made of metals (not like the new machines of today). The old sewings machines were beautiful works of art; and, they were built to last. He did a nice job on restoration.
Talk about a stroke of luck. What are the odds that you would have a camera positioned, on a rainy day, at the exact spot you would FIND this old sewing machine. I mean you really need to go to Los Vegas...
Excellent job! Beautiful machine. My Grandmother worked in the garment industry in the early 1900's. My Dad repaired the machines sometimes but I doubt he took them apart and rebuilt them like you can. Of course he was my Dad-so maybe he did.
A job well done in restoring that Japanese Antique Sewing Machine. After looking at the machine I had doubt in my mind as to whether you could restore to it's glory but you proved me all wrong by doing a great job in restoring it. I must say a big thumbs up to you and also keep up the good work. Excellent.
Nice work and I love the mud joke, but one has to be Nihon-Jin to understand how funny this man is without having to use words. The work is not perfect, true, but he made a point: do not discard anything unless it is broken beyond repair. You may have to need it one day. Respect !
That is a beautiful sewing machine even I wouldn't have thrown out such a beautiful sewing machine I'm just glad it's now being restored to it's glory once again 👍👏

Impressive job getting it dismantled and put back together - but does it sew? Also, you installed the presser foot lift lever upside down. I restore vintage sewing machines but i will never go as far as you did with taking the insides out, but again, impressive work getting it completely put back together. Did you work in a sewing machine factory?
It's a Janome! Those old Japanese Singer clones are GREAT machines! I have one and it will out-sew my new Brother machine. I disconnected the motor on mine and set it in a treadle. Works great!
Not only that but well placed mud...had the machine laid in the river the wash would have deposied an even layer of mud very liquid and would have washed itself off as a smooth deposit as it was taken from the water.....
That’s an very old and very valuable sewing machine like my nana says,”Always look for the valuable things in life!” So that sewing machine is 🤑! Also she is perrrrrty

The shafts and bushings weren't smooth and you never reset the needle bar height and pressure bar height or feed synchronization or hook timing. Send it to me and I'll make it sew again:)
The Singer machines were incredibly durable, they could be solid rust and could be cleaned up, oiled and back to running with just a good bit of oiling. They used cast iron to cast iron bearings with very, very close tolerance which just don't go away. Newer ones will use nylon bearings or very narrow ones which just don't last that well. Always remember "Keep it well oiled."
