This is indeed a rare boat. 98% or all Sanger hydro hulls were set up with v-drives and propellers and not jet drives. This is because the hydro hull is designed to ride on three points; the bottom of the sponsons and the propeller, which is usually located under the rearmost portion of the hull. Jet boat hulls are designed to ride on the last two-three feet of the hull, right where the jet drive intake is located in the bottom of the boat. Very few jet-driven hydros were ever successfully campaigned at the boat races because it takes a lot of re-working of the hull to feed the jet drive. Congrats on the purchase, fellas. It's a cool looking float.
The knob to the right of the driver seat is an MSD ignition timing retard device. It connects to an MSD 6BTM ignition box. Put simply, for every pound of boost the ignition box senses in the engine's intake manifold, the ignition system will retard or reduce the total ignition advance by the amount indicated on that knob.
the gauges in the cylinder heads are water temperature gauges. the canister beside the engine is an engine oil cooler. the straps on either side of the engine are called "blower restraints" and they keep the supercharger from flying into the air if the engine has a catastrophic backfire in the intake manifold.
the "l-m-h" switch at the bottom from of the engine likely controls the amount of water that's fed into the bottom of the headers. the water injection system keeps the surface of the header cool and prevents the chrome from turning blue.
I'm really praying this doesn't become their final build. Guys, you must respect this one. Once you have this thing in the water, do not play around like we have seen you do before. I can't stress that enough. Helmets, life jackets, all the proper safety gear, maturity and knowledge of these types of machinery are a must.
They'll just do a shitty fibreglass repair, drive it once then never look at it again. That's the only bonus here. If they actually tried to drive this thing regularly or at speed, it would come apart for sure. No way they're going to repair that fibreglass properly.
I was the engine builder/ crew-chief for a world championship drag boat team in the 90's. I am not crazy, was not stupid and never drove our boat. I was probably more nervous every time it went down the 1/4 mile pass because our driver's life was in my hands. One rod through the bottom of the boat and that thing will disintegrate. If you get out of an open seat drag boat doing over 120 mph you can loose your life. The driver wears a parachute on his back and ballistic shorts for a reason. High speed impact with water is no joke. I have had several friends injured permanently and some have even lost their life's. It is the most dangerous sport and probably the most addictive. Once it is in your blood there is no return. Just more need for speed.
I was an IHBA rescue diver in the 80' / 90's. Pulled more than a few drivers outta the water. Denver Mullens, Ralph Padilla, Ron Braksma. Those were the days. Pickleforks, hydros very unique and exciting hull designs. The only thing keeping them on the water, was luck and a prayer. Definitely not the safest design built, but definitely the fastest.
@@angushoover8670 I wouldn't be completely surprised if they rip it around the first time they take it to the lake. Or even try to start it without checking the engine.
Hey Simon: You guys bought a real gem. Sanger Boats were really popular back in the late 70's earl 80's. Mostly safe to run on Very, Very Smooth Lakes or Rivers. Your motor is probably a 454 BBC. It has Cast Iron heads Probably square Port. it's not a super High HP motor, probably 425 maybe 450 HP. The Super Charger is a small 6-71 unit probably under driven. Running two Holley's it's probably a Pump gas motor maybe 600HP at most. The Valves and temp gauges on each head are to control engine temps while running on the water. The headers are water cooled and that's where your exhaust and engine cooling water exit the boat. Those Boats were known as a Whole in The Water you throw Money in. GOOD LUCK.
Boost retard allows you to retard timing 1 degree, 2 degrees, 3 degrees per pound of boost so you don't melt your pistons. Start with max retard 3 degrees to be safe. It also depends on where the total timing is set. Set Total timing (not initial timing) at 36 degrees to start. Better fuel allows you to use less retard on ignition. Check your plugs for sign of detonation frequently. If you start to see aluminum on your plugs, either go back to more retard or use higher octane gas. You also may want to put the big blower pulley on the super charger and the smaller pulley on the crank for lower boost until you figure things out. That is a BBC, probably 454 but could be stroker 496 (common marine size) or bigger. The blower is a 8-71. It should be good for 800-1000hp depending on tune. You'll blow it up with nitrous for sure. Don't do it. You don't have the experience.
The best thing they can do with that Boat is to clean and fix the Fiberglass then sell it, that thing is so far above there pay grade, if they somehow get it started without breaking the Engine there going to kill themselves if they get it in the water, they don't even know what a boost retard is, I'm not Hating on them but I don't think they realize that isn't something you putt around the lake in, I don't see this ending well.
Sanger Boats were one of the premier drag boat builders in their day. Sanger is from Fresno, CA. The pickle fork with the setup I am looking at will have a top speed well in excess of 100 mph. The top speed when set up for drag racing was over 200 mph and this style boat did hold the record several times. These drag boats usually were prop driven. Both the pickle fork and the flat bottom boats from Sanger were record holders. Both boats will skim across the water with next to no draft. If you received a VM (Valley Muffler) trailer with the boat, that is the original trailer for these boats. The VM trailer is very well built (also made in Fresno). As you notice the tandem wheels allow this trailer to balance very easily. Sanger Boats are still open, but do not build boats in the same volume.
You stepped into a new level of power with that boat. Pickle forks are deadly fast. Make sure when you get that thing running you wear all the safty gear. I have seen one launch of 50 feet in the air before landing upside down and exploding.

Nice score boys. Indeed a rare and very well kept classic. One to respect that can bite you if you are not careful. Take your time to learn about it. Surely it runs on some high octane, probably race fuel and might even have some methanol or water injection to keep it from detonating. Hopefully you can find the previous owner and get the low down. Keep fire extinguishers handy.
Top fuel dragsters (among others) have straps holding the supercharger down -- like you say, it's for when things go south. You see on the side of the boat, APBA ... American Power Boat Association - this tunnel-hull is built for one thing & one thing only, going flat out on flat water. They can't race if the wind is up, as when these boats are on the plane, pretty much the jet drive, pick-up & turn fins are the only things in the water; very easy for them to flip if the wind gets up.
Nice Sanger Hydro. It’s fixable for sure. Only bummer is it’s a jet drive. V drive hydro is really the only way to go. This should be interesting to watch. Have fun, be safe.
Mike Finnegan is the go to guy on these boats if you all don’t get with someone who knows what they are doing with this thing it could turn deadly fast!

they used to have them in Chatt back in the 80's and 90's during the Riverbend festival. This boat scares me for them. They need to have it professionally done. This is not something some amateur hobbyists should be risking their lives with.
Someone needs to make a meme with Simon getting super excited when there is something cammed out 😂 I’m not mad I just think it’s funny that every build they get Simon goes “you know what would be crazy… if we cammed the motor!” 😂
You NEED to get with someone like Mike Finnegan about this before you drive it. There is a bunch of things that could go deadly wrong in those on the water.
I have a sanger hydro..motor out now but a fast hull. You have a big block Chevy blown motor. Probably 9.5 compression. Blower motor. Straps are to prevent blower blowing away. 😂. 740 holleys. Trick rig. Need advise I'm here. Know this setup .well.
Life in the fast lane takes on a whole new meaning when it's the GOONZQUAD ! Nice guys you never stop ! Surprise Surprise it never gets boring with the guys super entertaining !
I saw that boat go through the SLC, Utah Copart. I was tempted to play it... but just too high. Definitely a cool boat! Be prepared to feel your face want to rip from you're scull when you get moving over 80mph I've been 112mph on a big cat, like a cadillac on water. those small boats will scare you...part of the thrill I guess.
Growing up, Dad would take the boys to the boat shop. Bro and I hung around those jet boats while pops was over at the cabin cruiser section. We begged and pleaded for him to get one. Didn’t work out in our flavor.
Blower straps- for situation of blower backfire. In those situations, the backfire is enough to literally blow the supercharger off the engine. If not strapped, the backfire can launch that blower easily 30ft heigh in any random direction.
Race fuel, blower is overdriven. Which means the blower is turning faster than the engine. Small pulley on the top big pulley on the bottom. Im guessing 2000 hp. Unless its way under tuned and is just for show. It appears to be setup for drag racing.
Can't wait to see more of this. You two need to get yourselves a couple of Lifeline life jackets and shorts. don't run around in that thing in some Walmart life jackets. That boat can hurt you quick. Like others have said try to get ahold of Mike Finnegan or someone that knows about hydro drag boats.
Straps are too keep the Blower from becoming a lunar lander when you crater the engine in a ball of flames. That dial will retard the timing according to boost level. Be careful, that thing is a two seater, watery grave digger if something goes wrong.
Also when repairing fiberglass you have to put back the original material material I suggest 2oz mat and 2415 material I used to build yachts at searay boat enjoy all that you do
Just be safe fellas those things are not for the faint of heart, I've seen two good men leave this world good luck, listening to those who know will be important, keep safe.

I have a quite a few old hydro's. 4 sangers and a couple Texas tunnels. Spent a few years racing flats and hydros that were capsule boats and vdrive. In my opinion the hull would be garbage if it was mine. Check for delamination on the stringers and main supports. You can fix the front, but it HAS to be done correctly or the boat will snap in half. I've had a few people I know die from that happening. Luckily its just a jet drive so you guys will be lucky to get 80 MPH out of it unless you got some serious nitrous and 1000 plus HP. Keep in mind that the fastest jet boat in the boating world does 160 with a blown nitro motor. If you're gonna fix it and try to go fast then buy a couple Lifeline Jackets and wear helmets. Also, keep in mind that these boats sit low in the water, and it is very common for them to sink being that only 4"-6" of the boat sit out of the water.

they used to have them in Chatt back in the 80's and 90's during the Riverbend festival. This boat scares me for them. They need to have it professionally done. This is not something some amateur hobbyists should be risking their lives with.
It scares me too for them, very dangerous sport
Someone needs to make a meme with Simon getting super excited when there is something cammed out 😂 I’m not mad I just think it’s funny that every build they get Simon goes “you know what would be crazy… if we cammed the motor!” 😂
I’m not sure he even knows what that means.
You NEED to get with someone like Mike Finnegan about this before you drive it. There is a bunch of things that could go deadly wrong in those on the water.
Those two Idiots won't call or contact anyone. They think they're smarter than that. I hope they have good Medical Insurance.
Lol, what's insane is you guys attempting to drive that boat, R.I.P.
These boats are called death machines for a good reason.
Crazy boat. Don't forget to change the oil in the super charger 😎
Woah...that's a surprise. Pursnikity means fussy. Us old farts used to say that back in the day.
Same Old Farts choose Paint over Vinyl. 😎
Nice Drag boat, screams 70th, i wouldnt go with this without racing seats and belts today. I am racing almoast 20 years, and this stuff is pumping me.
750 carbs
Life in the fast lane takes on a whole new meaning when it's the GOONZQUAD ! Nice guys you never stop ! Surprise Surprise it never gets boring with the guys super entertaining !
havent seen them this excited in a very long time!
Never let Simon take the controls of anything with a motor.
SHEEEESH! What a DANGEROUS TOY you bought! 😮😮😂
Growing up, Dad would take the boys to the boat shop. Bro and I hung around those jet boats while pops was over at the cabin cruiser section. We begged and pleaded for him to get one. Didn’t work out in our flavor.
Awsome. Can't to see what's going to happen with both of these projects.
That hellcat motor, is hopefully going in the cop car. Thats gonna be sick!! Its all ready looking good.
Probably going into that white challenger in the garage they bought off the neighbor !
That motor was A1, just structural damage and motor parts. The frame will probably be used for the challenger. But the motor should go in the cop car.
Blower straps- for situation of blower backfire. In those situations, the backfire is enough to literally blow the supercharger off the engine. If not strapped, the backfire can launch that blower easily 30ft heigh in any random direction.
Hey Goonzquad! I’m interested in buying pops truck as is. Would you guys consider selling it?
I would message them on Facebook or there email
Not even a comment about the boat… you’ll be filtered out 😜
You guys are going to kill yourselves in that boat.
Be careful, since they like money so much now, they might answer :/
@@NFCL17why are you hating so bad man???
Fellas that thing is a drag boat! Yes those straps on the blower are for catastrophic failure!
I am amazed that you guys can have a successful TH-cam channel and you can’t tell the difference between a small block and a big block!
They do that on purpose to get people to comment. It's annoying.
Get a hold of Finigan from hot rod garage, he’s your go to guy for big block jet boats! Keep up the awesome video!
Straps are too keep the Blower from becoming a lunar lander when you crater the engine in a ball of flames. That dial will retard the timing according to boost level. Be careful, that thing is a two seater, watery grave digger if something goes wrong.
Looks like another fun day .nice work .
I know I already commented once but you guys should watch videos of things going wrong on the water. They are actually extremely dangerous
Forget about the hellcat I want to see the boat!!!! Can't wait! That has to be one of the coolest jet boat I ever seen!
Make sure you use hydropel resin on your repair it resists water
Also when repairing fiberglass you have to put back the original material material I suggest 2oz mat and 2415 material I used to build yachts at searay boat enjoy all that you do
Just be safe fellas those things are not for the faint of heart, I've seen two good men leave this world good luck, listening to those who know will be important, keep safe.
Thomas the tecnician is probably managing his own project, right now.
Yeah, Thomas is cool, I think he's smarter than the whole damn family.
454/460 BBC definitely will be worked bottom end and top definitely will be cammed out as well. Not as much HP as you would think. Not busting on it but back in the day everything was bored ported blown and displacement was king.
By careful with that thing guys. It looks wild and dangerous. I've never been this worried for you guys. Apart from the heli
I have a 1978 hondo gt with a 454 love the project can’t wait to see more video!!
Dude I got pictures of your boat coming through salt lake City it was at discount tire getting tires on the trailer small world
Woah hey let's talk about the white trx in the background that's finnaly back also the trx hoodie is so nice to wear also I'm waiting for the trx shirt and sunglasses
You don't hop out of that boat, if it goes bad you are LAUNCHED 😮
Looks Awesome, Do a "Show Only" restoration and put it on display somewhere.
Simeon really said "Skill Issue" haha, put some respect on Billy's Fork skills bro!
I stick to it that Billy has some better skills. If you know what i mean
@@theunsviljoen3619 Like what?
that must be the craziest thing I have ever seen this boys buy from ever since they started their channel and that kitty is fluffy Thomas.
Ethanol clogging, no reverse having, straight line only, closed coarse, death trap! Wear all the safety gear if you attempt to put that in the water
We have hydroplane class racing on the Columbia river in Washington state every summer. The boat you have looks very similar. It looks silly fast and a fun project.
Few cans of GreatStuff and some 200mph Duck tape and y’all be ready to take it to the river 😂👍👍
Awesome new project boat , they race those types of boats where I am in Australia.
Dudes, call Cleetus and get JackStand Jimmy up here to get a gander at this beast.
Nope! Those boys don't know shit about this kind of evil . This is on a whole other level from anything they have done. ThE Goonz need to talk to Finnegan and have him help them find someone with A LOT OF EXPERIENCE that can help with this build and drive that boat.. That thing is one of the most dangerous things in the world you can climb in and that's not BS.
That AMG GT looking mighty fine in the background.
U can check with Mike Finnegan down in Georgia if u payed to much he's big in to jet boats pluse he would probably love to see it was checking stuff out from finneganns think that's a drag boat
Also, keep in mind that these boats sit low in the water, and it is very common for them to sink being that only 4"-6" of the boat sit out of the water.
if there was ever a vehicle for a cleetus mcfarland crossover video, this is it
These dudes are 100% going to blow up that big block.
Man, that poor Hellcat went to Hell and back.LOL
Probably going to put the Hell Cat motor and trans into that white challenger they bought off the neighbor !
❤❤❤❤❤omg a redeye. ❤❤❤❤ cant wait for that build... What is it going to be..
Dangerous speed boat.
Finnegan is the guy to talk to for sure , would be cool to see a video with both of y’all !
Hellcat motor for the rock crawler, nice 😜
That boat remind me "helicopter project" )
What even happened to it💀💀
@ninjastriker0137 I asked the same thing, and someone said they sold it 😂
THEY SAID THEY SOLD IT
It was sold
The boat looks amazing. It will be awesome when it is finished.
That boat is gonna roar... I can't wait to see you guys rip it.
love all the boat vids keep it up lads!
Water at high speed is like concrete
The car only needs a good buffing. Enjoying the channel. Tks for sharing.
I believe the original owner of the race boat was laughing and said, "Young people"
Haha
You guys better listen to Finnegan. He knows his stuff. That boat was made in the town I live in. Good luck gentleman.
Finally news on Thomas Kitty" Hope hes alright.
He said memory?
