I inherited my step dad's Chrome Yellow 1972 High Boy. He bought the truck new. It had been sitting in Colorado for 22 years. The original white rims rusted, but it actually started on old gas, still in the tank. The paint is faded, and it has minor surface rust, faded paint, dings and dents from farm use, but after shopping prices on newer 4x4 pickups, i decided I am gonna start restoring it next year.
Ya mine was a '79 f150 shortbox stepside 4x4. Factory pushbar w Factory fog lights and blacked out grille and bumpers. 4 spd 400M. Tilt with Factory sport steering wheel. I have never seen another one like it. Bought it new in '79, when I was 18.
That's a sharp looking 76 alot of folks fix up an like the 79s best I've always been a fan of the 67 to 72 an 75 highboy with 36" tires 360 4 spd witch I owned at one time still have the bug guard that read BUSHWACKER an it was thank you for sharing always enjoy a great looking FORD !!
Honestly proud for you. Have had similar incidents. Very glad to see you put F.I. on it. I loved the 460's, best gas engine Ford made for light duty trucks.
That's determination to not give up on your truck after the incident with the wingnut. I didn't give up on my 94 F150 untill it gave up on me, then I got a 2013 F150. Me and her have had our ups and downs but She is still going strong at 169000 and hopefully many more miles and years to go. Great video great song and great looking truck!
i got lucky 8 years ago and bought 4 79 f350 4x4's bodies were trashed but the frames and axles were there, i built 1 and am slowly building another, and nope none are for sale
From a fellow '78 Ford owner to another - nice video and nice truck. Mine is a shortbed F150 with a base 460 from a '95 F350 (which was fuel injected of course), but has been converted to carburetion + Trickflow aluminum cylinder heads. Glad you didn't let the busted cylinder stop you. You have a very nice truck to be proud of there... thumbs-up.
Knew a guy years ago out of high school, he picked up a lemans one day, driven by a little old lady. He was messing around with the air cleaner, dropped the wing nut in the carb while it was running, made some noise and came out the tail pipe. Don’t know how it got through the muffler, but he ran it for awhile, motor still ran fine
I think I would put that nut that broke the piston on the key ring as a reminder of an expensive mistake but you certainly turned it in to a better turn out, nice Truck
My old landlord had a 78 not as good of shape as yours and it had the 351m in it I used it to plow snow with thing was a beast had black jack headers on it sounded sweet
Back in 93 I had 1979 bronco with 351m, blackjack headers, big cam and Holley 850 double pumper. Sat on 33/ 12.50s. would plow through snowdrifts higher than the truck, back then we actually got snow in downeast Maine. Those were the days!
@@lestercarter1391 my landlord's only stood on the stock 15 inch rubber but it did have a lift in it I think unless that was factory either way I had climb into all fall out of it 🤣
My truck is newer. 2017 F-150 lariat w/tow package and leather seats and buttons I still don't know how to use. Bought it used 3yrs. old w/29,500 on odometer. Second Ford is a '69 Fastback with a 390. I used to work in the garage of my condo with a flashlight. Now I have a home w/a small garage but it works. Nobody in this town knows anything about wiring new gauges and I'm bad luck schleprock (flintstones) when it comes to wiring.
How did it suck in the air cleaner bolt ?? Looks brand new both motor and the body ! Sharp, awesome, sounds great and a classic! Could you use a tunnel ram on it ? Would a modern fuel injection system work on this motor ? My uncle had a 460 since 76, lots of power in the truck ! 40 years old perfect until it got stolen while on vacation 😕 Only got 12-15 on the highway lol but come winter time, this beauty made lots of cash pulling out stuck vehicles and making store runs for people. He would charge half price for a tow, but gave out receipts for full price to turn into the insurance company for them. This way it cost nothing for the mishap either 😉delivered supplies for a sandwich or tips only lol. Never charged anyone either for doing this, yet the tips were still awesome! Not a perfect as your truck, yours is a museum truck ! Just perfect! My uncles was a brown/white 4 door with the 8’ bed and CB lol. Can you post some more pictures or videos here or on Facebook?? Thanks
I love my 69, iv been on the fence about doing a 460 swap to it but after driving my dads 89 with a 521stroker i really want to see the power that bottem end would have with a 4bbl and scj heads behind my granny 4 speed
Bob you can’t judge the year of these trucks by only looking at the grille, other than the grille and F250 badge nothing else on this truck is making it look like a HighBoy.
damn your idle is so high, but i had the same situation with a straight 6 on my 68 mustang the carb threaded rod fell into the intake and ruined 2 pistons!
Ford never put a big block 460 in 4 wheel drive pickups during these years (1973 to 1979 ) Your truck is not a 78 ,76 or 77 , I sold these trucks back then
Then you should know the difference between a 76 and 77, this body obviously isn’t a 77 either. You should also know that the VIN goes with the frame on these trucks so wether the grille and badging say it’s a 76 is beside the point, the frame and running gear could easily be a 78, which is prolly why he’s running a 385 family engine. The only way to know for sure would be to get a look underneath but I’m willing to give the man enough credit of knowing what model truck he has here
It's not about miles per gallon ...its about smiles per gallon ...random 460 owners 🇺🇸💪
95 f350 for some reason my fav to drive
Gotta love a 460! The smiles it produces far outweigh any concern for gas milage!
brings back memories my dad used to drive us around in a 78 :(
Not a Ford fan but, that’s a sharp looking truck! What I like is that you prove you don’t need a big fancy garage to do what you did👍
Nobody cares if your “Not a Ford Fan”, shows your ass when you say that.
As a country boy you have got to love a truck🔥💪😎
Great truck and I love that you chose this song as the soundtrack.

Dump the gas! Don’t use it will ruin the engine
I had a 79 F150 351M 4 speed 4x4. I miss that truck. By far the best Ford l have owned. I have always had Ford's. Nothing else will do.
Yup! The ole 70 is almost there... Only days away now

Great song to go along with a great looking truck!
One of the greatest trucks ever made!
Honestly proud for you. Have had similar incidents. Very glad to see you put F.I. on it. I loved the 460's, best gas engine Ford made for light duty trucks.
WRONG!.. M400 is WAY better for light duty trucks.. thats why FORD CANCELED the 460 for the 400..
Beautiful truck, I had a 77 & 79, both were good trucks.

That is a great looking truck. One of the best years for the Ford trucks.
I’m so happy you painted it blue last two highboys I’ve bought it’s been black blocks and orange or red valve covers I gotta get them back to blue
Beautiful truck! Don’t ever sell it. They’re going up in value now. Wish I kept my 79!
Have one, 1979 f 250 460, 16.5 Mud claws black centers and chrome and ext can bat wing side glass, needs power boster

We had two 460's on our farm trucks. A 94' F-350 flatbed and an 86' F-250 flatbed Both well over 200K miles and never an issue.
I had a 77 f 250 with a 460 I miss that truck.
I have a1987 ford bronco with 4.9300l6 and a 1995 ediebawer edition
Love it I am a FORD man and my dad RIP DAD

Had a 75 short bed 4wd 4sp 300 and loved it never left me hanging even after driving it a week with no clutch pedal linkage after it broke
I have a 75 f250 highboy w 4sp 300. Plenty of power and almost 20MPG
Love that truck! Thank you for the video and Sorry for your loss! Hopefully that wing nut became a permanent lump on that piston rod after it melted!
I had a 77 short box 460 w/35 inch bloggers. I loved that truck
Would love to see more of this truck, looks like a badass truck with a badass engine
Thanks! I've had it almost 20 years and rebuilt/replaced just about every moving part, what you want to see?
I built a thumping 460 years ago for a dude who put it in a 79 F250 4x4. Have since wanted to put one in a Crown Vic.
What a nice rig! You know it's fun to drive
Great song...awesome truck!👍
WOW!!!!! THAT'S A LOT OF BLOOD SWEAT AND TEARS !!!!! Congratulations you did it!!!!
Very beautiful 78 Ford F250 brother.
Love the Ford man also love the scorpion's 🤟

Beautiful truck man
Nice miss my old 76 F100 with 360
A farmer I worked for had a 79 250 identical to this. Nice old truck . His didn't have a lift but still sat up good ..
Amazing truck! 😍👍😍👍😍
I’ve watched this 1000 times

Parting shot is epic!
I'm happy you got it running!
I had a 460 in an 86 F250 Heavy Duty, predecessor to the Super Duty, and it ran great with tons of get up and go between gas stations.
Beautiful truck 💪🤠🇺🇸🌹🎼 nice video
Awesome truck buddy 👍🏻
Badass trck. One of my favorite years.
that is a beautiful truck my favret color

Yeah super easy, bolts right in
@@maverick2pro848 thanks bud
It also has the ‘73 - ‘76 F250 Badge as well, I’ve always liked the look of the ‘76 DogHouse best.
Nice! I NEED a 460 for my 73 👍🍻
Beautiful truck
Sweet truck!!!
Oh my God beautiful Fords they’ll be around forever a little bit of maintenance and they’re tough his truck on earth
WHAT A BEAUTY!!!

That's a beauty
What headers are you running
What’s your wheel set up ? Shopping for rims but this offset thing is a bit confusing
They are 16x10 wheels, I can't remember the offset...
Nice. Very nice.
Can you share the wheel / tire size. That's perfect!
The wheels are 16x10 and tires are LT315/75R16
that's friggen awesome
Are them the speed master heads u used ? What cam did you use
Yes, speedmaster heads with Edelbrock Performer RPM cam
what brand of headers did you use?
They are L&L inside the frame Headers

What heads do you put on it
Speedmaster heads, sorry don't remember all the specs

Nice truck👍. How do you like the fitech? Easy install? What heads/intake you running?
How much can this tow?
Badass truck bro... what size lift and tires
Tires are 35x12.5R16. Lift is probably about 6”.

damn your idle is so high, but i had the same situation with a straight 6 on my 68 mustang the carb threaded rod fell into the intake and ruined 2 pistons!
The short clip of it running was during a cam break in which is why the idle was intentionally turned up to 2,000-2,500 rpm.
Very sharp
Never liked Ford but dang that F series looks good. Also very spoiled. Nice truck.
Not a 78 looks like 76 nice though!

If that's a 78 then he must have replaced the grill and headlights with a 76 or 77, 78 and 78 had a different grill and headlights
Yes I have an old 3/4 78 and that is not the grill it has.
It’s obviously a 78 with a 76/77 Grille and 73-76 Badging, I’m pretty sure he is aware of this though, it is his truck afterall.
