she's a rare truck indeed! 3/4 ton dual tank 4 speed w/ 4 wheel drive. The a/c is just the cherry on top. I would definitely make her solid as it was originally! good luck 👌
I had a guy reach out to me trying to find old rigs from the lesser forty eight. I worked on these rigs in my shop for years and ya, great rigs. I too am a ford man and like a ford any day over some overpriced squarebody that people think are worth a million dollars. Our roads don't care if its brand new, they have a half million miles on them in just a few years going from wasilla to anchorage everyday. Because of our not being able to ship scrap from alaska on any high amount of volume, you find these rigs everywhere yet. Kids today think some foreign rig with a automatic and four doors, a sedan, not a hardtop like say a fastback Torino ford.
BYA, great survivor truck! I de-smoged a V8 '75 Chevy wagon many years ago and it ran perfectly with better gas milage etc. It was a California car so it had the worst emissions design of that era. Back then kits were available to plug all the holes in the exhaust manifolds etc. Had to radically change the timing and ran into a few other surprises. My son drove it for years after!
I was in high school '78-81 so I remember well those late '70's Fords. Several farmers had the 4wheel drives. Saddle blanket seat covers were the best for Ford bench seats. Guys would mount CB antennas on the rear view mirror brackets. The longer the better.AL B.
We Are just Stewards of these old relics they may live on past our years you know...Do you think in say... in 1980 the owner or anyone who maintained it ever imagined the Truck still being in roadworthy service Use in 2024, with a young guy not even born yet working on it? No one ever really projects into the future of their cars and trucks and where it might be one day...very neat. It's another little thought detail to the hobby.
Nice ole girl I love the green that ford had on this year. The XLT package was dam nice too. she sounds healthy and deserves to get some love after sitting for 17 years . Thank you for this video, would love to see more.!
Love the "Racetrack trim" package. I had a 79 F150 swb 4X4. Same 351 and 4 spd. Mine had the side hooks on the bed, though it was just the "Ranger", not an XLT. (no carpet ) Loved that truck. Unfortunately, it ended up against a tree on a downhill slope, with my son driving. ( Nobody hurt )
Try using a football or small basket ball to wedge down in the door bracing and inflate it slowly to pop Out that dent. I’ve done it several times. It might not be perfect but it’ll do a good job. I had one big dent on the bed of one of our projects and it popped right out. Almost perfect.
nice truck had an 1982 250 4x4 4speed with the 351m good motor, think it was the np435 not much difference in those ford truck trannys had the t 98 ti8 and the np have fun with it!
Mt 1977 Super Cab XLT F150 had a 'supercharger' power steering pump too, and I had to replace it as the whine from it nearly drove me crazy. ( crazier than normal that is )but I sure liked that truck. Seems to me this era of Ford trucks looked 'prettier' than they do today. Maybe that was because of the two-tone paint job they came with, and good old wheel discs too. ( 'Mag' wheels were more rare back in those days. ) I do remember putting a Hellwig (heavier ) rear sway bar on my truck, and a dual Flowmaster exhaust system on it too. Same engine as in yours here, a 350 M 2 bbl. but mine had the C6 transmission. I hope you get this F250 all done up, make it look real good, it deserves your kind of restoration to it.
Love watching your videos, I always look forward to a new one. It unreal how good they hold up in your part of Alaska. I’m in Prince Edward Island, Canada and between the salt used on the roads in the winter and being surrounded by an ocean rust is a killer. You definitely have lots of knowledge for your age. Did you go to school for a mechanic or did you learn from your father/grandfather something like that ?
Not gonna lie, but I'm not the biggest fan of Fords esthetic new stuff. But the older Explorer and Rangers well most from 40s thru to the 70s early 80s are cool. This fine specimen is one rare bird that needs to be cared for and tended to. Great video.
A few years ago I started putting synthetic ATF in my '73 F100 power steering pump, and it is really quiet and smooth at all temperatures. Probably not "Ford Approved" but it has been working well for me.
Change fluid, and add a can of BG Power Steering Conditioner. And no, I'm not a salesman for BG products, but the stuff does work. Unless of course the pump is totally wore out
That is my all time favorite ford truck. One of if not the best looking truck they ever made. And the 351m400 is also one of the strongest engines of all time. Not a speed demon, but hard to beat for pulling power.
Those idiots don't need to be near them. Kevin is a complete dunce, can't even stand watching anything he's in. Then their unbearable sense of humor on top of it.
Nice truck glad that you’re fixing it up. i’ve heard about search for these three-quarter ton four-wheel-drive with a four-speed i’ve had about six of them I have one now with a 60 front end and a 460

Nice truck. Good project. The body needs work with all the rust and dents but that what you'd expect from a truck that old. Plus over there you can find replacement parts easy.
Nice truck! Especially for the age. I had the exact same truck in the early 90’s. Except it was cream and brown. That engine and 4 speed were very strong. I could pull trailer truck loaded with trusses though mud when in granny gear, low range 4x4. 😀👏
Nice truck, I want one and yes the tie downs are part of the Ranger package. It's best to get rid of the pollution aspect as it more of a point of failure, we used to do it to any Ford V8 that came in. If you block all the vacuum lines and wind it back to 10 degrees advance it will boost horsepower quite considerably.
Just started a project on a 79 F250 as well. Dark jade and light jade like yours but opposite paint scheme. She’s in good shape too. Really looking forward to cleaning her up. Just getting some videos going of the clean up. Can’t wait to see what you do with yours. Keep up the great work!
The best TLC for that Ford is being fed a couple Fancy Schmancy Range Rovers or a Honda Ridgeline. Throw that carb away and just rebuilt an early 70s Holley 2bl for it. Block all that smog crap off and replace the converter with a straight pipe. That's what we would have done back in the day. Cheers ! 🍺🤛😎👍
@@Awsom47Merc There isn't really smog crap on the carb itself. You can rejet it or whatever to make it run better too. I think the only difference is the choke
Good solid truck, worth restoring! I hate it when idiots say- its just a antique piece of junk, lets kill it... and that happens way too often. Then they jump in their shitty pimp honda and go buy mor e crap to support another country.
Just saying because I've seen it happen I would beware of that roof skin being rusted enough to come off at speed, I have seen a 62 chevy get scrapped because the outer roof skin flew off on the highway. Just a thought.
