    The mental health system fosters codependence. They nearly killed me/have endangered me. I'm protecting myself now.

      Hi Kahlo - I'm sorry to hear you have had a bad experience. Unfortunately, it does happen. I've experienced it myself. I hope you are doing better now and wishing you a healthy, happy New Year.

      Yes, and learned helplessness. 'we have the medical answers, you don't have to do anything, your ill'. Carolyn Springs podcast on her journey out of the psychiatric system, very imformative.

    Thank you never dared to say stop or no. Also do not know how to set boundaries. But I have started with it. A bit like learning to walk. Redo and do right for me.

      Hi Emilia - Glad you are enjoying the videos. I hope you have found this helpful. The great news about boundaries is that it's a skill you can learn. It just takes practice. Sorry for the late responses to your comments. I've had Covid for about 2 weeks now and just starting to feel better.

    Glad this month is about boundaries...I really need to learn about this...I've gotten better with it.I used to totally neglect myself for other peoples needs now I only neglect myself maybe 35% of the time so I still need to work on that.
    Wish your videos were longer...They help me..I want to hear more of what you have to say.

    Thank you so much for all your videos...they have been instrumental to my awareness and healing from codependent behavior...I am very grateful to have met you!!
    I also have a question... what would be a good example or 2 of being supportive of ones substance abuse recovery vs codependent?

    • @DRKJFOSTER
      @DRKJFOSTER  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Alex! It has been great getting to know you too. Thank you for the question. One example would be allowing your loved one to be responsible for their recovery. The less, if any, questioning about their program (such as, "did you talk to your sponsor today" etc) the better. This was especially hard for me with my son and his recovery process, but it does make a difference AND #2 allow your loved one to build relationships on their own. Don't go to meetings with your loved, except perhaps on special occasions. Allow your loved one to have their own identity in their recovery and establish your own identity in your recovery. If you have limited time together, then perhaps choosing one open meeting on a Fri or Sat night or whatever works best for your schedule and attend only that one open meeting together once a week and make it into a "date night" experience. I hope you found that helpful? Do you think it would be beneficial to create a video on that topic? Thanks again, Alex 💜

      @@DRKJFOSTER no need to aplogize or even leave a comment to get back.Its enough that you shared this video here.not sure was it in this video now or another but you said about saying no and how others may not like it.Thats huge cause it can be baffling when you do say no and it can hit hard as have experienced , was on my part a hugh letting go but came to realize it's not personal it's never personal, its just we all get used to things as they are and when things change things get rocky for a while, for everyone involved.But feel my relationships are healthier with boundries in place but can also at times maybe isolating.Its finding the balance between what is and is not my responsibility.What is loving and joyful and what isn't.
      A balancing act as am sure your aware of.
      Blessings
      Thanks for sharing your videos
