I'm so giddy and excited for all the people being introduced to him right now. His music is beautiful, sad, happy, intense, calming, thought provoking, mesmerizing, hypnotizing, quirky, sentimental, and oddly nostalgic. It's like being in a desert for days without water and getting that cold gulp of water to reinvigorate you. When I found Ben at my worst, he reinvigorated my will to fight on. His work is absolutely worth the journey. And I wish I could experience it all for the first time again.
Ben Howard got me through my marriage break up. The Jools Holland live version of End of the Affair told me I wasn't alone in knowing that pain, and gave me safety to grieve. He is a treasure.

Ben Howard has been the soundtrack of my last love story. An intense, long, passionate and complicated one, as only true love stories can be. Me and my ex-girlfriend went to one of his concerts in Milan years ago. It was pure magic! There I took a picture of her: the most beautiful photo I've ever taken in my life. I will cherish that moment and that love for my entire existence. Thank you, Ben. Thanks for walking with us on this long journey. I'll never forget because, you know, it will always be "depth over distance"!

I regularly come here. Not only to listen to Ben playing these perfect reinventions of his own songs, but also to look at the perfectly arranged ensemble of the picture he is part of: Sitting between bookshelf and plant, in front o a closed curtain that probably holds back the oppressing heat of an Ibiza summer. This is a true image of a longing, maybe for the laziness of mediterranean summer afternoons, I don't know exactly...but it keeps me returning. Thanks Ben and NPR.
Whenever he performs it feels like a piece of history is being made. This version of Follies fixture is way better than the album, can't wait to hear a live version with the band..
@@ian8502 Yeah, I'm really dying to listen to live versions of "Metaphysical Cantations" and "Make Arrangements" from the new album. And I also think "Sage That She Was Burning" acoustic version only with the guitar and piano would sound amazing! I'm loving his live versions too! This may be because I'm able to read and understand the emotions of the song better through his expression, when he performs live. There are so many thrilling performances that still give me shivers every time I watch them here on YT; Everything - Glastonbury 2013, End of The Affair, IFWWW & Towing The Line at Later With Jools Holland, every live version of The Fear... Ben is such a fascinating musician and individual to follow. Crazy creativity, and so much variety between the albums. I've cried and laughed so much along with his songs.
Ben Howard chuckling is the best thing that could have happened to this day of climate anxiety gone wild. Also because he's known to invest in sustainable projects. He cares, he loves what he does and he's clearly radiating that hope. Thank you NPR, Thank you Bob, Thank you Ben.
Just back from watching Ben live. Mesmerising gig as was his last, when he played through Noonday Dream. I’ve grown up with his music, from starting to figure myself out as a 16 year old listening to ‘Black Flies’, to my first relationships and subsequent break ups replaying ‘the Burgh Island EP’, to finding myself watching sunsets more peacefully hearing Noonday songs. His music has progressed and developed at the same speed as me, and I’ve found myself loving an artist throughout his varied music (I usually overplay and burn out artists). I look forward to the journey ever more. As an aside, last nights gig was the same as 2 years ago - the crowd. People are going expecting 10 year old classics from Every Kingdom, which I imagine is frustrating for Ben. He’s been singing those songs for years, and is a different person writing Metaphysical Cantations as he was back then writing Keep Your Head Up. When he does sing the ‘favourites’, i personally love his new take and approach to them. Unfortunately, a lot talk over him at the gigs and grow impatient at the songs they don’t recognise, chanting “we want the wolves”. Some feedback online seems to carry the same sentiment. Bens gigs are intimate, especially at the moment and it’s a shame some aren’t along for that journey right now. I’d suggest seeing him at a festival might bring out more of the popular hits. But please don’t go expecting just the Spotify top played, just listen to some of the most beautiful chilled out songs and enjoy.
I will never get tired of listening to Ben Howard play "live," the variations, how he continues to evolve his music. Just pure talent and artistry. Thank you Ben and NPR for this truly incredible tiny desk (home) concert
I waited 5 hours in the cold and the snow for this man.. his concert was magical. I remember everyone was so frozen we had to take turns inside... ah good memories

This instantly brings back memories of summer weekends when I would hang out with a friend who I practically see as another brother. We smoked cigars, drank the best wine we could afford and ate seafood before we would head to town in hopes of finding a female companion to end the night with. On each of those nights ‘Every Kingdom’ was our third companion, either playing in the background of our conversations on the balcony or providing those melancholic vibes while we just stared at the seagulls flying by. Ben, thank you for those beautiful memories.

Long time since I last saw any of his videos or him playing. He was a big deal to me back in 2014. He sort of looks now as if he was a character in Vikings. Good to see you again Ben.
I’ve always been amazed at the intricacy of bens lyrics and the vivid depiction of a scene through natural earthy metaphors all the while having them fit into neat melodies and rhythms.

I just can't stop listening to this acoustic version of Follies Fixture. It's so beautiful.❤😇
I can go on with the list.😋 Ben Howard, he simply is the best!

Ben is such a fascinating musician and individual to follow. Crazy creativity, and so much variety between the albums. I've cried and laughed so much along with his songs.
A song is a gesture..
Ben is such a great guy. man.
Can literally make any of his songs sound completely different into their own songs with their own feelings. Inspiring in many ways.
Ben Howard chuckling is the best thing that could have happened to this day of climate anxiety gone wild. Also because he's known to invest in sustainable projects. He cares, he loves what he does and he's clearly radiating that hope. Thank you NPR, Thank you Bob, Thank you Ben.
Climate anxiety? Just chill and enjoy the music, no need to bring the news over here
You are right. Thank you for your comment. People like Ben Howard care, and aren’t afraid of doing things that matter.
'Oldest trick in the book' might just have made me tear up.
Thank you Ben and NPR for this truly incredible tiny desk (home) concert
had to pinch myself to realize this video is actually real! we've been blessed
I waited 5 hours in the cold and the snow for this man.. his concert was magical. I remember everyone was so frozen we had to take turns inside... ah good memories
Its crazy how his voice is actually the bass
You are a good observer and a listener..I never noticed it earlier. Thanks for the tip..
MIND EXPLOSION
wait where
took me 7 years to see him in concert. and now this gem. i wil be blessed indeed.
Best Monday I’ve had in a while. Thank you Ben, Thank you NPR. 🙏
Ben is the greatest songwriter of the last 20 years
Only other artist I would add for consideration is Foy Vance. Check out indiscriminate act of kindness, Gabriel & The Vagabond, and Foy’s live at Bangor Abbey Album.🔥🔥🔥
I think you left a few out for that equation
@@lordbuddybear You’re 💯 right. Even after I hit send I thought of other ppl like Dallas Green and some others and in my mind was like 🤦🏾♂️
Reply with some artists so I can check them out and grow out my way too short list😂
@@dariusibell I’m a bit late but some excellent other song writers I’ve enjoyed are Gregory Alan Isakov, Brian Fallon, The Lumineers, Night Beds, Bears Den, Matt Maeson, Joshua Burnside
the tiny desk concert we were all waiting for
Being surprised by Ben's appearance on NPR Tiny desk is definitely a sign of good changes to come.
Man, so good. I absolutely love that movement across the capo in Far Out. Glorious!
Up until this point I'd never heard anything from Ben Howard before. I'm definitely a fan after Far Out, can't wait to listen to the studio version
Try out the Far Out Variation too. Similar to this but sounds so good it should be studio. Actually dive into Ben's entire discography. Gems including End of the Affair, Nica Libres at Dusk, Towing the Line, Esmeralda, Burgh Island, Promise, Black Flies, Soldiers, Bones, Oats in the Water, Time is Dancing, Rookery and Sorry Kid
Oh man, I am excited for you lol you have quite the journey ahead
Wait until you listen to every kingdom then 🥲
@@Crimsonzs Cool, thanks! will check it out. This version of Far Out sounds like something Thom Yorke would cover on his Jazzmaster :)
And some songs only found on TH-cam (as far as I'm aware) like The Burren
His music is so important to me and my life. So stoked to see him play on tiny desk in such a crazy and unprecedented time in Sydney. Forever thankful for his down to earth self and his incredibly moving, beautiful music. Makes me so happy!
I think many of us were waiting for this. He is definitely one of the most underrated but best songwriters out there. A true artist. I just think we needed an extra 40 minutes of this hahaha
AGREEEED
How more people don’t know of Ben is crazy to me. Easily one of the best singer songwriters alive.
I listened to his music …everyday… from age 17 til like 21 lol. Got me thru major coming of age tribulations & earthly woes with his lyrics and melodies 🌻
“Got me thru major coming of age tribulations & earthly woes” was described so beautifully 😭❤️
It’s like you’ve described a section of my previous life
Understated genius and responsible for me meeting my future wife, cheers Ben ❤️
How superb is this! Haven't listened to it for a while, and I'm blown away again. Cant wait to see them again later this month.
I have been on this rock only sixty cycles of the sun or so and I am choosy now, but this is one of my favorite humans. Even, I think, if he just sat quietly at this point.
It's awesome to read these comments and realize that somehow it's possible to put a little bit into words the way Ben's music makes me feel.
my first kid was laboured and born to this guys music. very healing and calming
God this man is supernaturally gifted with his music. All were perfect but that first one reached deep into my soul and found an emotion I didn't even know I had. Ben, as always, profoundly majestic
Blows me away what he does with the guitar…. epic stuff
Ben is my heart and my soul my go to every day ,his music lives within me ,he heals my depression, lifts my mood my soul his talent bright and endless everything he does is pure gold feel so happy he's in my world ,I love everything he's ever done each song a slice of life memory ,pain anguish and pure joy ,love being part of his journey ....just epic
No way he's finally done a tinydesk session! So jealous of all the new people that are going to discover him because of it. Amazing session as always, so refreshing.
right!! it'd be so awesome to experience Ben and his music for the first time again 😩
Thank you for this to anyone who is involved. I'm home with this video.
This brought me back to a version of myself I haven't been in a long time.
I feel these words deeply, brother.
Back here again almost a year later… I hope Ben is happy wherever he is probably Ibiza and I hope he comes to the US soon! Forever grateful for him!
This bloke is absolutely brilliant and unbelievably undiscovered/underrated
i don't know this artist but I think this is his bread and butter. him, his guitar and his voice like a heart.
Hello...
Thanks for your lovely comments and likes on my page, it's great to know I have such a devoted fan.
Much love💜❤️❤️
I don’t have much time but I just want to use this opportunity to appreciate you for being a devoted fan ❤️❤️
some days I find myself thanking someone above for your existence.
Every note, slide, word hitting just the right place. He is a genius. I would really like to know how it feels to produce sounds like this. Breathtaking
The still proudness of the tiny succulent tree gleams and grows from every vibration of this. Never have I wished more to be a plant.
You just made me see that plant as the audience and it was kind of adorable.
Thank you Ben and NPR. All's well in the world for 18 minutes and 33 seconds.💛
Oh my. I was just listening to Ben Howard’s albums since yesterday and entered casually on TH-cam to watch some of his clips and for my surprise, this vid was uploaded 3h ago. This is marvelous. Ben, you are incredible. NPR thanks for this, I’ve been waiting for it for so long.

My jaw dropped as he played a variation "I Forget Where We Were". Thank you for this.
Now excuse me while I continue to daydream with this on repeat.
omg i’m about to die! i did not know this video existed 🥹 i have a forearm sleeve tattoo and i have KYHU hidden in there for keep your head up. im a full blood mexican from oklahoma.. idk how i became entranced with ben howard but he’s my all time favorite! so many hours spent listening to this man.
I first saw this lovely man play at a tiny cd shop in Newton abbot (Devon) called Phoenix sound and he didn’t expect so many people…didn’t even bring his amp! And he was so humble and sweet and he hasn’t really changed and his music has just evolved so magically! I’ll never forget that first time, before he was so well known
Thankyou Ben
Long time since I last saw any of his videos or him playing. He was a big deal to me back in 2014.
He sort of looks now as if he was a character in Vikings. Good to see you again Ben.
I’ve always been amazed at the intricacy of bens lyrics and the vivid depiction of a scene through natural earthy metaphors all the while having them fit into neat melodies and rhythms.
Thank god this exists..I drifted away from Ben for a few years but his music is a fixture in my soul. Thank you for this!
So great to see Ben Howard in some mainstream outlets. More people need to witness his brilliance!!
I adore ben, my early teens are filled with his music. His songs were the perfect fit for my exploration of the beautiful planet of ours and the liquid self. Glad to notice - he aswell, didn't stop evolving.
Second Tune sounds and plays oddly like Radiohead. loved it.
"beautiful planet of ours and the liquid self" well said
I can't deal! What an unexpected present. Thanks Tiny Desk!
The start of the "I forget where we were" song is special here
Ben Howard always innovative and keeps the listener on their toes. How about the capo left off the low E string? Never seen that.
Ben Howard is one of my favourites atm his live sessions don’t fail to impress me
Finally! Thank you NPR!
Sensational arrangement of follies fixture. Just beautiful
FINALLY, NPR!!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU

So very grateful ✨
i dont know how i've just put Every Kingdom on loop this week, and this suddenly shows up on my feed. finally!
