@@foxo444Man, that’s a name I haven’t seen in ages! My first cell phone when I was like 13 or 14 was a Samsung flip phone on Cingular lmao it eventually got folded into AT&T or something
You forgot the most important one, one so big that when this video game was brought to the Nintendo Switch, fans were disappointed the licenses weren't renewed. 34 brands featured all in one game, impossible to beat without collecting at least one, including: - soda, - sardines, - honey, - lip balm, - baking powder, - yogurt, - batteries, - mustard, - more soda, - gummies, - shoe polish, - I gave up because I don't think people would read this if I continued. Pikmin 2. The purpose of Pikmin is to explore this strange planet, and in the second game you collect lost relics from this planet to pay off the debt. Not all of them are products, but the inclusion of brands helps instill the world-building of this place and that there was a civilization long ago that left these bottle caps and batteries behind, while showing the scale of your character as a small speck in the grand scheme of things.
Alan Wake also had a deal with Lincoln, the car manufacturer. The car Alan and his wife drive to Cauldron Lake and on the ferry was a Lincoln SUV. They also changed that with the remaster release.
So, to add a bit of context (or whatever) to the racing game discussion, certain brands have actually signed exclusive deals to specific publishers. The biggest example of that has to be Porsche. In the early 2000s, Porsche and EA signed an exclusive licensing deal, so literally no other racing game could use officially branded Porsches until like 2016 or so (if I'm remembering correctly, I think it was a bit of a big deal when Forza finally was able to release the Porsche car packs for Motorsport 6 and Horizon 3). However, thankfully for non-EA racing games, there was a workaround to get 911s in games thanks to the German manufacturer RUF, who took stock Porsches, modified them, and legally resold them under their own branding, which made them eligible to include in other publishers' racing games. And to add to your discussion of Toyota, there was a bit of time in the mid 2010s when Toyota refused to let their cars (apart from one of their Baja/Trophy race trucks) be featured in games that had street racing, so, ironically enough, there WAS in fact a Forza game (Horizon 3, I believe) without Toyotas (again, until they got re-added as a limited "Forzathon" reward). Finally, I think that one big aspect of the car licensing thing comes down to the background/location of a game's developers. Building off the example of Gran Turismo, they feature quite a few Japanese manufacturers that only license to Sony (the one that comes to mind is Daihatsu). Playground Games (the developers of the Forza Horizon games) is mainly based out of the UK, which has given them access to fairly niche British manufacturers like Bowler and Noble. So, tl;dr, there have been exclusive licenses for car manufacturers in the racing game scene, there has in fact been a Forza game without Toyotas, and, to some extent, car licensing probably has something to do with the location of a game's devs.
I work at Domino's and the reason your coupon didn't work, I THINK, is because they were having an issue with people being able to use the coupon over and over again using new accounts. I wasn't there on the day but apparently my manager said we were getting killed with these pizzas and they eventually had to stop taking them entirely, so my bet is they eventually turned it off to stop that.
I also work at dominos and I knew abt the noid before this video but it’s funny how our stores still have him around like on our software we use and such
In the game SSX3, the vehicle Element was sponsored in the game and it was wild. You see billboards of it, they have a few on the side of the courses, and in one level, you literally grind through one with the doors open
I was just thinking that! Also the 7-up variant “dnL” on billboards lol. It really dates that game to a particular point in 2003 because I don’t think dnL was around very long
The cover of Uncharted 3 on the video's thumbnail shows the incorrect ESRB due to being Rated M rather than the actual T Rating. Naughty Dog didn't make their first M-rated game until The Last of Us in 2013.
Rocket Sloth how could you forget about one of the 1st gaming advertisments ever. JET MOTO PS1 theychad racers and signs with full brandings from Mountain Dew and Butterfinger i vividly remember this.
This past weekend ive actually been playing Rush 2 explaining to my nephew about the Mtn Dew cans and the Mtn Dew track car. I grew up playing Rush 2 with a N64 wheel and the memories still live on.
I dig the format! I even got a little productive with this in the background lol it's nice being able to sort-of be a fly on the wall for these topics.
Honestly surprised you didn't mention the Call of Duty Ghost's Halloween thing with Michael Myers. Though I guess it wasn't really a marketing crossover, just a crossover.
There is a call of duty black ops jeep that lives in my town. I always give him a double tap honk when I see him. My guy even has the call of duty elite tire cover on the spare. RIP such a different time❤
There is a very subtle one in Final Fantasy XV where the camping chairs and tents are Coleman brand. I like it because you could play through the whole game without noticing. Death Stranding has the most in your face one with Monster Energy with the drink being a usable item, being plastered on trucks and sticking out completely from everything else in the game like someone modded it into the game.
Big bumpin was a surprisingly good multiplayer mini game. My sister and i spent a lot of time playing that one. Especially considering it cost us like... $5? CAD
I did what you did with Dominos to Pizza Hutt after they charged my gift card for a purchase that failed and was never made due to a server error, and when I tried to get help their Support ghosted me twice. Also, according to The Cutting Room Floor, Code Vein, a post-apocalyptic anime vampire Dark Souls, has unused voicelines for a Domino's promotion.
Small correction, Burger King didn't do the other two games because of Sneak king, all three games were green lit and being developed at the same time. Its why all three ended up out pretty close together. Also fun fact, Sneak kings disk works on both 360 and Xbox. It's a dual disk.
Pepsi owns most of those companies including Doritos and Mountain-Dew, but his weird that they prefer to promote Mountain-Dew instead of Pepsi… Weird. I couldn’t find the new Halo cans anywhere!
You didn’t mention Doritos Crash Course! I suppose it’s not a cross over as such but you mentioned the Cheetos game at the end which made me think of it because it’s basically the same type of game…!
I just wanna say about the little caeser's promo for MW3 that you didn't have to order a pizza at all it was just two separate orders with a requirement of $3 which was basically the stuffed crazy bread that was promoted for it at the time, for MW2 the year before it was a full pizza combo tho lol (I've been an employee for almost 2 years and was able to keep a poster promo of the operator idk why I just had the urge to comment this) 20:20
6:12 They also have a good amount of giveaways between Mountain Dew, Doritos, and Rockstar Energy, where with enough points you could get an Xbox Series S or any number of cool prizes. It's how I got Starfield, and am going to get a headset.
Just realized I unironically ordered Little Caesars for the code while clicking on this video. Almost thought you werent gonna mention it since you moved on from talking about the CoD crossovers for a bit. Still need to order them one more time so I can play as Little Caesars on the good side and play as Mtn. Dew on the villians team.
With games based on real sports like F1 and World Rally Championship, back in the 90's & 00's there were sponsors who gave permission for their brands to appear in games to lend authenticity rather than as marketing (since race cars & tracks are traditionally plastered with sponsor's names like tyre or engine oil brands, which aren't of much interest to gamers!). I've always enjoyed picking out the faux products & branding designed to hint strongly about a specific product, but where the devs either didn't bother or weren't successful in getting permission or a marketing deal... like red drink cans with white writing saying 'Cola'... or a burger joint with a W brand that looks strangely familiar, kinda like an upside-down M.... LOL And the pupper was a delightfully cute distraction in the background during your discussion at the end.... the combination of scripted segments & informal chat is a winner. 👍
FFXIV had a few I remember I bought 5 butterfingers to get an in game mount. And I think I had to order pizza through DoorDash to get an “eat pizza” emote 😂
I actually tried Mtn Dew because of Halo 4! I was in high school and I was getting ready for the Halo 4 midnight launch, got some little caesars pizza and because it had Halo plastered all over it and I was curious, I picked up a 12 pack of Mtn Dew! Been hooked ever since

When you consider the astronomically higher capital car companies have VS game studios, it seems pretty obvious they're the ones paying to get cross promotion in games. Its no different for other racing games; it's just that they have nore willingness to collaborate.
i read somewhere that toyota is not in need for speed because they don’t want to be associated with illegal racing. i imagine some car manufacturers have specific requirements like that
ofc theres always Avenged Sevenfold in CoD:BO 1-3 with their music being easter egg tracks, or front and center when you boot up origins or wait forthe after credits scene in BO II

Need for Speed: Underground 2 had some pretty intense product placement. It had Best Buy, Burger King, McDonalds and T-Mobile amongst others.
product placement in car games have pretty much been a given since like the beginning
It was Cingular not T-Mobile ;)
It's Carbon that had T-Mobile
NFS Underground 1 and 2 both had come crazy product placement. Aftermarket parts, McDonalds, Burger King, and Cingular Wireless.

Was looking for this exact comment
It should be a requirement that every game needs a forced product placement because I find this stuff comedy gold
No
It's only the right feeling in skateboarding games as far as skateboarding brands like Zero, dgk, Baker, Element, and such
Only if it's a fake in-game product. Im not paying 60-70$ for a game just to have corny advertising shoved in my face. Then where does it stop?
@xaviergl6397 you're just complaining

Skate's placement was perfect. It was never in your face and was a perfect product to fit the game and era.
Alan Wake also had a deal with Lincoln, the car manufacturer. The car Alan and his wife drive to Cauldron Lake and on the ferry was a Lincoln SUV. They also changed that with the remaster release.
my favorite in game advertisements i've seen are the alcohol brand placements in the Yakuza series, it just makes so much sense

This Chanel is the perfect fit for me, cause is a lot of random stuff involving games and is normally on a long form video. Just what I like.
I think In game product placement is really charming as well as in the game manuals. Yakuza has to be my favorite example.
That CoD pizza box is legit art. 😂
Nathan Drake and Subway is the funniest one
It must have been a Sony thing at the time. Subways are dispersed throughout Infamous 2.
I loved Nathan Drake 3
KFC was in PUBG last month. All the gas stations turned into the locations and gave you bundles to heal. Also promote heart disease
Bawls energy drink was in a few games. Grab your Bawls.
Red bull was in wipeout before i ever saw it irl. That was surreal.

Mafia 2 playboy magazines one of the most iconic collectables in gaming
Possibly the best imo.
I like these new (and more broad) video game topic videos, Rocket Sloth.
The Subway advertising is most known for Uncharted 3 (because of the tv ad) but Subway literally appeared in Infamous 2 and PlayStation Move Heroes.

I always thought the energizer battery sponsorship in Alan Wake was kind of a negative bc the batteries die so quickly…
The Guitar Hero Music Licensing caused a shitstorm between Axel Rose and Slash

i must say the retro items are the only way i want real sponsors its cool and can fit immersion without feeling like in ur face advertising

I can’t help but think of Pikmin having Duracell batteries in the OG

I remember the Dodge Nitro on the billboards in Crackdown
Still wild that Burger Kind was the original Xbox smart delivery.

Itd be so much funnier if in ff15 during the cup quest, everyone stared DEEPLY into the camera.
Skate 3 had an entire trick called the Miracle Whip, I’m suprised that wasn’t brought up..
I never redeemed my Halo 4 Mountain Dew + Doritos 38 matches double XP that for some reason is on my desk right now. It expired a decade ago.

Such a random brand

for the grimace game there are flash carts you just slot an sd or micro sd in with roms so it wouldn't be hard
You should have mentioned GTA 4 TBOGT and their Panasonic TV products in game or Metal Gear Solid 4 and Playboy magazine in game item
SSX 3 had a board that was called “dnL”….it was just the 7up logo flipped
