    The reason it's in 4:3 because that is everything the lens captures & he wants us to see every bit of what was shoot & the reason the flash moves like that is cause the air is so thick at that speed he's practically swimming through it.

    My favorite speedster moment is from the animated Justice League show. When the Justice League is fighting Lex Luthor fused with Braniac, and Flash seemingly is running away from the fight until it's revealed that he actually just ran around the entire world just so he can punch Lex/Braniac as hard as he could

      And the fact that they _immediately_ afterwards had him go "I don't think I can ever go that fast again" means that they didn't have to address the "why doesn't the Flash just autowin every fight from now on". It would absolutely not have worked if they either ignored that, or had him give the explanation at a later point.

      The exact reason for this is unknown. However, it is known that Orks are all low-key psychic and as a group working together are able to subconscioisly alter physical reality to conform to their expectations. If enough Orks believe something is true, then it actually becomes true. So it's theorized that at some point in Ork history there was like a race between two carts or something and the red one won and from that point it became an accepted fact among Orks that red things are faster.

    The CW Flash was the first depiction of Super Speed I liked, because they have the actor run leaning forward a bit. Before that show super speed looked silly, like a Benny Hill sketch, because the actor would run on the green screen treadmill upright with the arms and legs just kind of flailing around. Smallville suffered from that.

    Without knowing the actual lore behind why they don’t just make a million droidekas my guess is that they are really expensive and they are super cheap and don’t want to pay that much money when they think the cheaper droids will do. Though to be fair against most enemy’s the normal droids work pretty well it’s just Jedi that we really see have no problem with them.

    • @walkerx1813
      @walkerx1813 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      If my cursory viewing of Star Wars lore videls is correct, the cost efficiency thing is correct, the Seperatist's strategy was to make as many of the cheapest battle droids as possible to just overwhelm their enemies like a zombie horde, the stronger ones like droidekas were only placed at key strategic locations, which is why we the audience see a lot of them, since we are following the protagonists into and through those strategic locations

      They do have pretty glaring weaknesses but when you have a couple dozen B2 battle droids also shooting at you, in edition to the droidekas, they'll be pretty hard to exploit. It's an exercise of mixed unit tactics. They also have the heavier battle droids and magna guards. It keeps the enemy on their toes if they have to counter different types of units with different strengths and weaknesses

    to be fair, the flash's powers are activated consciously iirc. or at least his accelerated perception isn't always active. this would would allow him to be caught off guard as it still takes a moment to go from 0-100 and react fast enough. it was also established in the plot of the show that his change in velocity is due to acceleration (and the other derivatives of displacement) and doesn't jump from one value to the next instantaneously (the flash needs to "build up speed" before entering the speed force and such)

    It's weird when a director will make like ONE really successful movie, and then can apparently get consistent high profile gigs based on that for DECADES. Zack Snyder did music videos. Then he got to do the Dawn of the Dead remake in 2004, which was kinda OK. Then he did 300 in 2006 which was a big hit. The highly stylized direction and big use of slo-mo worked well with the style of the material and it just kinda gelled. Basically everything he's done since then has been on the mediocre to bad scale in its reception but they just keep hiring him.

    This is something I can yell about at a bar for three hours if you let me.
    The quicksilver scene is fine, but the best speedster moment in live-action is actually from the Snyder cut- not from the flash, but fuckin' wonder woman of all people. The one time snyder manages to resist putting her fighting in slow-mo during her introductory bank hostage fight, and you get to see her deflecting bullets in real-time, it looks AWESOME. If superhero media took speedsters seriously, they'd be the highlights of any movie they were in, but no one ever stops to think superspeed through, and it infuriates me.
    First of all, running at the speed of light is impossible. The Flash can handwave it, but he doesn't *need* to. Flash stuff causes itself so many problems by giving physics the middle finger. Anytime a speedster is moving relativistically, it breaks the universe they're in, and, like you said, the directors or writers or whatever have to find a way to nerf him. Except, if you think about it, a speedster is really just a human-sized bullet, and that comes with all the benefits and drawbacks that implies.
    Impact from a human running at more than 200 miles per hour would easily break steel, and even the shockwave could shatter nearby glass or displace nearby objects. (At least movies get that much right.) Much faster than that, and the oxygen and trace flammable gases in the air begin to spark, causing small amounts of fire, and plenty of heat. Once you start moving at sub-orbital speeds, 5-10,000 miles per hour or so, that fire becomes the same kind of ionized plasma that spacecraft have to deal with on re-entry. Faster than *that,* at about 3% the speed of light, and any medium you're moving through, be it air or water or whatever, will now be more likely to simply fuse with your skin, releasing the energy as a nuclear explosion.
    (And yes, a speedster moving near the speed of light would gain thousands of times their mass, but that move fundamentally misunderstands where the mass comes from- it's a product of the energy already in the system. Doing an infinite mass punch requires the mass to be created by putting more energy, or, effectively, strength behind the punch. It's no better than simply moving that fast.)
    This is just a rough overview of a speedster's strengths, but what really intrigues me is their inherent weaknesses, because there are a LOT.
    First and most important- with the exception of generally powerful heroes like superman or wonder woman, speedsters are shown to have speed be their primary ability, with little to no mention of increased durability, and, indeed, that is backed up when they fight. The Flash can't take a punch much better than any other fit person could, at least in theory.
    So, the speedster's worst enemy is themselves. When they're moving as fast as they are, everything around them is moving just as fast- relative to them. If, for instance, someone tossed a rock at a passing speedster, that rock hits them at the speed of a bullet, and, well, that's now what it is.
    Moreover, if a speedster tripped, slipped, or had some kind of sudden change in terrain, like when the Flash runs directly up buildings, they're going to hit that wall at the same speed, and it's going to be just as deadly to them. Even worse news is the fact that air friction becomes deadly when moving this fast, but most media at least attempts to address that fact.
    But I'm just getting started. Have you ever tried to run down a hill as a kid and found that you had to kind of keep running a few steps before you could stop or turn around? That's because, even though we don't have wheels, we're still subject to inertia, and speedsters ought to be no different. Stopping, slowing down, and turning, should be ordeals for these heroes. If they don't have a straight, clear path to their goal, and they're flying by the seat of their pants, they could very easily hit a car, a building, a tree, a piece of freakin' debris, ANYTHING could kill them when they're moving that fast. It's especially bad considering how hard it would be to see and how little time they'd have to process their surroundings.
    Speaking of which... thinking fast? That's the most egregious sin committed by superhero media and I will *never* forgive it. The ability to put a lot of power behind your legs is one thing, and I can even get behind speedsters healing quickly- it's all just metabolism, after all. But THINKING fast? What, the neurons in their brains are utilizing some new form of electricity that moves faster than light? Fuck right the hell off. If you just take away the speedster's godlike awareness of their surroundings, they become SO much more manageable, AND YOU DON'T HAVE TO KEEP KILLING THEM OFF!
    THEY COULD BE COOL, YOU GUYS. THEY COULD BE COOL WITHOUT BEING X-MEN. IT WAS FUN THE *ONE* TIME QUICKSILVER DID IT, NOW CAN WE ALL JUST PLEASE MOVE ON.
    Thank you for coming to my ted talk

    Red cars actually did go faster (only very slightly) in the past.
    Years ago the paint used on cars contained lead, and red car paint had less lead than many other colors.
    This meant that a car that was painted red would weigh a tiny bit less and would therefore be ever so slightly faster than the same car in a different color.

    I heard the reason for choosing 4:3 was to get more of the human body in frame at a time, thus achieving your ideal "superhero proportions" more naturally. But maybe that was just someone BSing on Snyder's behalf.

    Fav speedster is Sonic the Hedgehog. Hands down he's been such a big part of my life. My favorite speedster moment is from Archie Sonic issue 175, the first issue I picked up. Where he faces a Eggman in a powersuit in the ruins of his hometown, everyone he knows has been captured and the suit Eggman is using was specifically designed to counter Sonic based on all the data he's collected on the hedgehog. Eggman has Sonic's number in this fight and beats him down, telling the hedgehog that he's at his limit. This enrages Sonic and he zips away, crossing the continent in an instant moving faster than he's ever gone before. Shouting "I've got your limit right here!" He uses the entire continent as a run up to charge Eggman in one cataclysmic strike. And all it does is dent his shield. The issue ends with Sonic defeated and it completely blew my thirteen year old mind.

    The reason why red is associated with speed is because of red-shifting. Things red shift when they are running away from you and if they're close to the speed of light. So if you're eating the dust of someone moving fast enough, they'll start to look red.

    I didn't know Snyder gave that justification for Flash's running "stance". I thought he was like 'swimming' lmao. The explanation kinda makes sense but it looks so stupid. They should have just made it normal and honed in on it. They had the time to perfect it, after all.

    I think the flash is the only arrow verse show where the powers\skills of the metas aren't toned down to ether makes them dark and gritty or to save money.
    Batwoman has only leds and steel for gadgets
    Supergirl\ superman and Lois makes everyone look like cosplayers
    Black lighting was good but a lot of the powers were just "hit hard don't die"
    Arrow was some arrows with explosions
    Legends of tomorrow has better costumes than the other shows but at the cost of people on that show seem to forget that they have magic, super powers, and the ability to think outside the last 15 minutes of the episode
    All still entertainment but laughing at the show itself is a third of the fun

    • @Ser_Salty
      @Ser_Salty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LoT had to tone down Nates use of his steel ability because they couldn't fit it within their VFX budget, because so much more important stuff on the show already relied on VFX/CGI. It's still the best Arrowverse show (past season 1) and it's gone so weird/off the rails they had to stop including it in the crossovers outside of COIE.

    The flash would actually benefit from the Naruto run, unlike the regular person.
    For the normal person the Naruto run isn’t a good idea because we don’t move anything near the speeds that air drag really matters.
    But flash, sonic, and any other character that can get up to highway speeds or greater would see a noticeable increase in there super speed do to them not having to fight the air resistance anywhere near as much. The effects would only be greater the faster they can run.
    And if you want to make the “but the speed force protects against wind” argument, what if that energy wasn’t as needed and could be redirected into greater speed.

    • @normiesalvador1854
      @normiesalvador1854 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I can remember which speedster it was, but they didn't have access to the speed force at the time. When they tested out their power, the air resistance and friction dried out their eyes so fast that they almost crashed and there were scratches all over from the particulates in the air. The speed force prevents injury.
