Son, thank you for your talent, perseverance, and communication. I appreciate your work ethic and high standards. Can’t wait to run this primo L6 on my boat to waterski with the fam.
Just curious, how's the motor running now that you've had it for a while? Thanks
I just went round after round with my original owner 23 yo 90 Mercury two stroke. It was spark scatter coming right through the boot on the plug wire. Replaced the coils, plugs and Gave it the power-tune treatment and she’s back. But man I like to have never caught it doing it’s “thing”. It would just randomly go to idling real low and stalling now matter how high I adjusted the idle screw. Then come back. Then go low again. Makes you crazy when they go sideways like that. Great work! Never give up! Never surrender! 😂
Well don MerCSon.....I could hear a lean sneeze on this end before you changed out the carbs......Gotta luv those Merc's
Thanks as always
After you rebuild the first half on the engine and it didn't stop misbehaving, I was hoping you will try to adjust the timing or check it if it was the problem. But wow you did fix it .💯. Great work.
Ah, You did a GREAT JOB on this engine.....just took alittle time BUT, Ya DID IT for shore. 👍🏼👍🏼
Great job Son! Thank you for sharing! Gus🇳🇴
Yep i watch all your vids i live in wis and about 25 or more years ago i did a side job for a sidewinder lowpro and it came with a merc with 1250 badging on it and since i found your vids i have been doing all the research i can just today i think i found out it is actually a 1970 1350 i have kept this motor in heated garage and kept it soaking all these years i am now finally tearing into it to try to revive it thank you for all you teach us and yes I subscribed yesterday haha
Thank you for the kind words my friend. Son
More magic. Patience is a virtue and you have it.Great video. Thanks a lot really enjoy your magic
Where did you get your carb linkages, new scrib watch your tubs learned alot, thanks
Yes for sure you are the man
I'm the man behind the man. Son
YESSS ! I clapped infront of my screen at home when i heard the clean idle. What do you think was wrong with the carbs, one of em was just discharging too much fuel? Thanks Son
Hello Son, first thank's a lot for your vidéo. I have a mercury blackmax 2 strokes 135cv Who does a discontinu bip who never stop when it's in use and the motor is in safety mode (low power). Do you have something that could help me ? Best regards Didier
I have a mariner 115 1982 on a bass boat that I am bringing back to life. Where is the best place to source parts for these engines?
Hey Son! Have you done a video on how to remove one of these Mercury outboards from a boat? I see you working with them on a modified engine stand and would love to see how you get them off of a boat and into a stand. Specifically the process of removing an engine from the boat itself. Everything that needs to be disconnected and how.
I have. It's not the greatest video lol. I'll look for it.
hello...quick question. the fuel in this engines is it a mixture of gasoline and 2 cycle oil? cuz i dont see a oil filter ...maybe a dumb question...
Where did you get the carburetor linkage from
Worn out reed valves. Replace with Boyesen Racing reeds if you can find a set that is compatible
Do u have a way to get ahold of you to get a motor fixed
What's a good operating temp for the water jacket and block near each cylinder while running off muffs? I can't find any information for the older style Mercs. Mines a 1975 1500
There are no specific operating temp. Your engine simply needs to warm up for a few minutes and you are good to go. Son
1979 merc 150 starts idles great but once you run it out on the lake get near top speed it falls on its face and starts lugging / decelerating.. fuel pump and carbs all been rebuilt .. thoughts? After you run at low rpm for a few mins you can take back off and it will just repeat the loss of power
Sounds like a clog or a faulty fuel pump. Check that the fuel pickup is clear all the way into the carbs. Son
When you started this it definitely sounded lean. Sounds fine at the end. It may need some new reeds though. Those engines can be a process. I have a Johnson Evinrude 115hp that is doing the same thing right now. It will come together though.
It's easy to say the diagnosis after the issue has been resolved my friend...... New reeds are not needed. I appreciate your feedback. Thank you. Son
@@MerCSonL6 Don't get me wrong I agree. Sometimes its like playing wack a mole. Beside if you do a reed valve then you might as well do everything inside that block. Usually that's not practical. I like @smalltownbassiin rebuilds allot of the V6's like the black max and XR6's. Which are outstanding motors. All of these can be a pain and like you I don't want anyone to go away unhappy or suggest you ripped them off. Its bad business anyway. That lean condition or super rich condition can be a hard one to nail down. You can get the timing right but sometimes getting that fuel mixture right is difficult. But, I am glad it worked out. And, usually it does just takes time.
what problem did you encounter?
Hi there, On my lower unit (1985 115hp T of P) when I pulled it off to replace the impeller I have a hose going to a nipple just in front of the gear shifter. What is that hose for? I broke the nipple when i pulled it apart and I was wondering if i can eliminate it somehow? Thank you in advance. New subber I found you through the channel "PAY IT FORWARD!"
I believe you are speaking of the speedometer. Completely inaccurate and a waste of time. Download an mph tracker from the playstore. Way more accurate. Son
Got it. Thank you!
How are brother I have a 75hp mercury it didn't have a spark so I went and bought new stator trigger cdi box rectifier spark plugs and new cables now I have spark on cylinders 123 but no spark on number 4 please help
You are just wasting money. Test each component individually to properly diagnose. I have videos on this process. Son
My clear fuel line coming out of the engine fuel filter has air bubbles. Is this normal?
Nope.
Good morning my friend, I am building a 90 hp marine engine and I would like you to make a video showing the entire autolub system. Thank you very much in advance.
Autolub system? What is that?
Sorry, I'm working w/ yamaha 25hp, 1998 modle.
Where are you located

I am a Mercury junkie in North Carolina. Are u on Facebook.
Wish there was a way to have private conversations.
I am. But I keep my personal life and L6 separate. You can join the fb group L6 Enthusiasts. You can find me on there. Son
god i f***ing hate working on outboards...outboards are poo
Great job man! Your videos helped me to service my engine… do you have another social network in case we Can exchange some thoughts? Keep doing it!
