Fantastic video. I just went through this process with my 03 Caravan .. misfire on #2. Wires, plugs, and injectors all good. Wire harness to the fuel rail was sitting on top of exhaust manifold, and over 20 years and 300,000 km had melted all the insulation. I was surprised it even ran. The bare wires must have shorted out the #2 driver on the cpm. Didn't want to spend any money on a junker, so I spliced #3 (adjacent cyl) and #2 together, so I have 2 injectors firing off one driver. Dealing with a P0201, don't have the labscope. However do have test light and a DMM. Cold the injector resistance matched a good one on the truck. Hot the good one went up a few ohms. (Matched factory service info specs.) The bad one wasn't able to measure with my manual range DMM and that's with making sure of pin contact. Set of six on the way. About near 190000 some odd miles. 07 Dakota.
Thinking about it. Makes sense to me. The fuel flowing through could have been just enough to keep it cool enough to function. The instant the fuel flow stops, it got hot enough to fail. Explains why it was able to run, then fail on queue.
Nobody.... trouble shoots like that any more! This is pretty much a lost art! Todays mechanics just throw money and parts at it and hope one of them fixes it! Best place to start troubleshooting is in the middle... just what you did! Enjoyed the video!!
Oh the "joys" of flying. Wondering if my connecting flight, that is 2 hours late, will actually make it. Hungry, cranky, tired and did i mention cranky. Then what should pop up but a new SMA video! Hey that's auto business for you! I think as you shut off the vehicle the heat builds up even more on the top cause there is no air flow and the windings expand causing open circuit . Great video
Seems like forever since we had a scope video!!! Thank you and would love to see more if possible. As always great video and thanks for taking the time to share with us!
"We shut it off for point-two seconds"... that is a long time :-) My livelihood was troublehooting digital circuits... for me that would be 200 MilliSeconds. We dealt with critical timings down to about 12ms with a swing of 0.8v. Measuring these high-frequencies meant the equipment and probes would alter the timings. (64 bit datawords) I made a 'millisecond ruler' which would tell me how much to shorten a wire to correct the timings.
Loved these videos. Wish I had knowledge that you do. I'm learning tho. On the diagnosis part anyway. I know how to change parts but I wanna learn diagnosis. I know little things.
On a v6 mustang I did the down and dirty test and put my Milwaukee 12volt battery straight to the injector pins using paper clips. She didn’t click then did the same to the new injector. The new injector clicked.
I'm in SA working on jeeps, the most common fault on them is 02 sensors but I've had alot of them with the same problem just close the lugs in the plugs a little the plugs wear out and then makes poor connection I've had two of them where the ecu was the problem, if that doesn't help try replacing the ecu"pcm" that should solve it

Thanks!
07 Dakota.
great diagnostic analysis. a real world situation.
Thinking about it. Makes sense to me. The fuel flowing through could have been just enough to keep it cool enough to function. The instant the fuel flow stops, it got hot enough to fail. Explains why it was able to run, then fail on queue.
Great Content Eric - thats how she goes
Nobody.... trouble shoots like that any more!
What was turning out to be a less than good day was dramatically brightened by Mr. O and his fun with Jeeps.
This is a great video, it shows how quick things can change. Never assume
You got that right!
Bada bing bada boom always love a good SMA video on my way to work 🤣🤣
We like when things go like this. This is the kind of stuff that always happens to me. So keep those videos coming.
The troubleshooting logic is everything.
Awesome use of the pico scope. If this doesn't make me want to buy one I don't know what will.. Thanks for that 😉
Hey that's auto business for you! I think as you shut off the vehicle the heat builds up even more on the top cause there is no air flow and the windings expand causing open circuit . Great video
That mother lover hahaha! Keep em coming Mr. O, God bless n have a great week.
We who work on cars know the translation lol
Seems like forever since we had a scope video!!! Thank you and would love to see more if possible. As always great video and thanks for taking the time to share with us!
Mr. O, this is an enjoyable amateur video. Thanks
Eric....awesome video as usual. WE CRAVE MORE!
You put out True Reality Tv. Thank you for that
Loved these videos. Wish I had knowledge that you do. I'm learning tho. On the diagnosis part anyway. I know how to change parts but I wanna learn diagnosis. I know little things.
This is exactly what I see in the shop. That is why I love your vids. Nothing like the real deal buddy... Great work as usual
On a v6 mustang I did the down and dirty test and put my Milwaukee 12volt battery straight to the injector pins using paper clips. She didn’t click then did the same to the new injector. The new injector clicked.
Nice to see a video on a Wrangler. Thanks!
Well that was fun. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and insight! Neither Paul nor Ivan could have done it better.
Got to love the great soak on bad injectors.
I'm in SA working on jeeps, the most common fault on them is 02 sensors but I've had alot of them with the same problem just close the lugs in the plugs a little the plugs wear out and then makes poor connection I've had two of them where the ecu was the problem, if that doesn't help try replacing the ecu"pcm" that should solve it
Just want to say thanks for the videos! you are an awesome mechanic,i have learned alot about diagnosing from you.
I could not agree more Dave... Love what you do Eric O. please keep it up!!!!
