    I'm amazed that you and other TH-cam mechanics will work around open intake ports without stuffing a rag into them. Every time I've tried it in the past I'd lose every socket I owned, my rings, watch, billfold, kitchen sink, etc. 🙂

      It amazes me too. I'm always nervous about open ports, especially since I'm known to drop things. I always have a roll of masking tape on hand, and it goes on as soon as a port is opened. I prefer it to stuffed rags because rags can be forgotten, green masking tape is hard to miss.

      I put a smear of lube around the seals so that when i apply duct tape over it all it wont stick to the tape, comes off real easy without moving the seals.

      It could be a combination of things. I have other friends who are TH-camrs and have their camera on the 5.1 setting and to my end it sounds ok. It may be the software Eric may be using to edit the videos that it is turning down the volume on certain platforms of audio. On my playstation 4, I also see the muted volume on certain videos as well. I was originally thinking it may be how it is uploaded as a issue until he mentioned it.

    • @athhud
      @athhud 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Obviously you guys aren’t experiencing the problem. It’s not exactly a “Roku issue” as no other channels, regardless of audio settings” are having this problem. The ads during Eric’s videos are coming in exponentially louder than his audio. Not exactly a big deal, but if you are trying to not disturb sleeping children you have to be quick on the remote’s mute button.

    You're a true presenter, giving the audience what you know they want. You unplugged the new injector and checked its resistance. before all of us keyboard warriors could ask about it. If this car is back for the oil filter housing upgrade, you can thank yourself that you used that Sil-Glyde on the fittings and the cover. And I like the owner's approach if another injector fails - replace all of the remaining 5. It looks to be in decent condition, so here's wishing the owner some more good years with this car.

    The audio doesn't sound too bad to me. The camera probably has a condenser microphone so it picks up in a wide pattern. Maybe there is a setting to narrow that or limit the range. The camera may have a jack for a separate microphone if you want to go that route, you could choose the direction and range you want.

    • @boredinibiza
      @boredinibiza 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      I'm certainly not an audio buff, but would wearing a wireless lavalier mic help to reduce background noise and just record your voice? I don't think they'd be very expensive, either. Just a thought.

    • @daniel_wilkinson
      @daniel_wilkinson 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's not too bad now, but I'm wearing ear buds and I can hear all kinds of room noise. It's going to be terrible come this winter when the heater is running off and on. If he doesn't mind more investment, I'd suggest a wireless microphone like the Rode. All they'd have to worry about is syncing the audio afterwards, but that's why you see a lot of TH-camrs clap before they start talking.

I'll have to give SMAR a try on Roku. But I'm sure I've watched it on Roku before and don't remember any extreme problem.

Your content is dictated by your fastidious attention to detail, your expertise, and the acute problem solving mind that you have, treating each vehicle without bias, or preconception in your methodology. Just want to say that you exemplify the best out there. I spent 36 years diagnosing and repairing diagnostic imaging equipment (CT and PET Scanners). The process is the same, gather data (from the user, testing, wherever), compare the data available to the symptoms presented and confirm the details, if possible, with the manufacturer’s details, and then, and only then, decide what to do. Intermediate test results as you dig in to the issue are also essential in confirming a diagnosis. Nice!

    I used the "turn backwards until you feel the threads drop in the groove" trick on vacuum cleaners with those coarse thread plastic body screws as well. As for "torquing to specs" on those screws, my rule was to use my fingertips to hold the screwdriver, and never my whole hand. If it was as tight as I could get with my fingertips, it would not rattle out of the plastic, but it also wouldn't break the screw bosses.

    As another person already commented I suspect that your new camera's built in microphone is omnidirectional (its pickup pattern is from all directions), an external cardiodial microphone would be more directional (the microphone would tend to be more sensitive to sounds originating in front of it and less sensitive to sounds behind and to the sides).

    • @envisionelectronics
      @envisionelectronics 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s exactly what it is and I used to design microphones…the wider pattern picks up more room reverberation and noises. I agree with the criticism that the background noises are distracting especially the doorbell.

    I’m here for the mechanic content and your explanation. Having worked as a mechanic on and off for almost forty years I don’t really hear the background noise since that is just normal noise to me. People need to realize that he is working in a shop and not a sound proof studio.

    Big time stuff: unwind it until you feel it rise up and drop into the threads. I didn't realize that's my standard practice for almost every fastener. Huge advice & saved me so much heartbreak over the years. Been screwing (and screwing up) threads on motors since 1985. 🤣😵

    I know you think the audio sucks but I've been at your channel so long it's reminiscent. I like hearing the sounds of you working and telling us what you're doing but at the same time I like hearing the sounds of cars going by and what is clearly wet road. It adds to the feeling of actually being there looking over your shoulder and learning.

Because I didn't pay a thing to learn from you. Yet you have provided immeasurable experience in diagnosing and repairing vehicle problems. Thank you sir, We appreciate everything that you do.

    • @athhud
      @athhud 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nah, it’s a volume issue. On Roku and a limited few other devices, you can barely hear the audio even with the volume maxed out. Then when an ad pops up during the video it rattles your teeth.

      Direct injection injectors or standard injectors? Regular injectors, there are just way more cars now aging out would be my guess. What's the average age or mileage of the vehicle that loses an injector?

      Depends on who made the injectors ... injectors either get clogged/corroded or the suffer heat degrading/failure on the electrical side ... I've had Bosch injectors last 20 years/260K

      A good bit of it is that they’ve gotten very good at engineering things to be as cheap as possible and still make it out of warranty. Things like normal injectors have been around long enough to really get priced down to the minimum.

    I rarely experience any real issues with audio on your vids, let's face it, you work in an automobile repair shop. Background noise is a given! I have zero complaints about your vids, btw, keep up the great work!👍 As for WD40, my first intro was in 1977 when I was an apprentice locksmith. My boss used it on locks but he knew that it wouldn't last very long. His thinking was that it would lubricate and protect foe a limited amount of time, and not do too good a job that he wouldn't be replacing the lock somewhere down the road. I use CRC POWER LUBE, it's oil and lasts considerably longer (doesn't evaporate).

    Boosting your views by that thumbnail I see lol.
    As a non professional mechanic, the importance of checking that connector of that fuel injector cannot be downplayed. How many hours and unpaid no less, have been wasted by shooting the parts canon at the correct area, only to find out the connector is to blame.
    Cheers to the owner for taking your advice for also doing the tuneup.

    That said, the enemy of intelligibility is reverb or echo. The farther away the microphone is to the source (you) the more reverb and or echo will be present. I would suggest a lapel mic if wirelessly possible.

Thanks for a superb "channel" Eric ....I hope that you do well financially from it.
