- How did the chicken cross the yard? Chunnel! Fall is here and it's time to pack up the garden so I'm letting the chickens do the work. Chicken tunnel from the Chicken Run to the Garden using 2'x4' 14 gauge wire fencing. Easy as can be

This is ingenious! I’m 66 year old woman and I don’t want to bother with something complicated, just a little roaming area. You can even move this around wherever you want them to play/forage/eat bugs. I have seen that type of wire but, I didn’t realize it was that easy to shape the way you want. The possibilities are endless with this setup. I’ll use the same strategy to keep bunnies out of my veggie garden, too. I love this! A kid could do this with no problem!....with supervision, of course. He/she would need to make sure the wire ends won’t injure the chickens or themselves.Thank-you so much!
Thank you SO much for this amazing reply to the video. You are right, this can be moved around to work with all kinds of applications. My Dad is in his 70's and he works alot in the yard when I'm working and uses this to move them around to other penned in areas with ease. It's great when you want to seed an area with winter wheat or something that you don't want them destroy for a while, and you re direct their traffic. I am happy you found it inspiring and wish you the best. Cheers!
Trust in Jesus Christ the only Savior Amen and Amen
This is so amazing. I responded to another video about a week ago and this is exactly what I had suggested the person do.. this type of chicken tunnel. I can't believe I am now looking at a video with the same design. Nice!!!!
That’s awesome! I found it to be really helpful and the chicken’s definitely benefit. Good luck!
I love the very end, where your little helpers in the garden come running to help with the spreading of the fresh soil.
Excellent tunnel Idea
Thanks!
I bet those chickens thank you everyday for what you do for them!
Gold!
Thank you so much! We recently encountered a hawk attempting to hunt our chickens. They've been free-ranging our backyard but now we need to find a quick alternative so they can still have freedom but remain safe.
One thing I would highly recommend, get some good sturdy camping tent stakes and use those to pin down the “Chunnel”. If an animal lands on it and tries to get them through the fencing, this will help keep it stable so they can run, run, run! Hope this helps! Cheers
nice chicken run
thanks, always good to see a person who makes it simple and easy.
Thanks. Simple and cheap could be my bumper sticker lol
Its so nice how you're really kind and take good care of your birds, I'm sure they appreciate it =)
It is definitely a work in progress since I didn't grow up in a family that only had cats or dogs. It is a rewarding past time taking care of them and learning new things from people as I go. Thanks for the comments, they are a joy to read and very appreciated. Cheers!!
The more you give the more they expect
Excellent!! Watched a lot of Chunnel videos and designed one w 2”x2” wooden base but I’m switching to your design! Thanks so much for sharing and you have a wonderful setup and love the way you care for your friends! I’m excited to build this. My hubby n I built a 4’x8’ coup w an 8’x20’ covered and enclosed run last year. Got peeps in April and just put them out last week. We’re in our 60’s so slowin down and love great ideas on time saving, easy ways of doin things! Thank you again!
Thank you so much for such a kind comment. The Chunnel has been pretty successful the past few years. This kind of fencing really stands up to the test of time too. It sounds like you’re doing amazing work with you girls for sure! Making things easy helps taking care of them as best we can. I wish you the best of luck with everything. Take care and ATB!
I really, really enjoyed your music selection :) and the garden sliding door has to be one of the best ideas yet. Thanks for sharing your chicken tunnels ;)
Oneda Zinn thank you very much. The sliding door is still working really well. It's almost planting season so the chicken Tunnel will be stored away soon. Take care and ATB!
Yes, I love that sliding door! I never would've thought of that for a garden area
love this video! I wouldn't mind seeing how you built your sliding door to the garden as well! wonderful!
Thank you for the awesome feedback. Here’s a link to the video where I made the sliding garden door. I hope you enjoy it! Cheers

I've wanted to do this for at least 2 years, but wasn't quite sure how to do it. Thanks for sharing.
That is awesome! Good luck with yours, and I am really happy this helped. They seem to LOVE it and it is so great for the garden. Cheers!!
So awesome, I love the set up you have 👍that sliding door to the garden with the wheels on top is really great too. Did you do a video on that? Thanks for sharing!
Love your garden fence and the rolling door!
Thank you!!
Nice garden and chicken 🐓 looks very healthy 😊
Thank you! I am trying to create a little sanctuary for them. We have unfortunately lost 3 of the 5 recently but tomorrow I am going to get a few from a friend in our local Mennonite community. Have been working on seeding the run with winter wheat, clover, and wheat for winter and hopefully they will get along. Put a fence up to divide the area into two so the different groups can see but not touch for at least a day. Wish me luck! Cheers
Great ideas. Good thinking to make the chickens lives better.
Thank you SO much! They seem to be happy and we have learned quite a lot through our experiences with them so far. Always trying to make improvements and actively stay engaged in their day to day activities. Cheers!
I love your sliding garden door! Your chickens are really cute too!
Cindy Majors The garden door is still working well and has managed to keep out some deer I’ve seen on a trail camera I’ve installed. The chickens are great but we did lose one recently and it was devastating. They’ve become more pets than livestock. I guess I didn’t expect to get attached. Thanks again!
Slice of heaven.
Looks pretty cool, keep them chickens safe
Awesome idea. Such a beautiful place you have.
Thank you so much!
What a beautiful place you have. Blessings
Thank you for the kind words. ATB
good looking garden
Thanks!
I've been thinking about this type of solution but never had the idea of something so small and simple and relatively inexpensive.
Amazing set up
Thanks!
I've been watching all your videos, thinking of getting chickens again. Really love how nicely you made a whole chicken wonderland. I can't build like that, but thank you so much for some of these great ideas! I think a tunnel around the yard, and a run that leads over to the fruit trees and on over to the garden seems doable. Great job!
Love the tunnels! Wish you would give dims. of the roll of fence you used. I'm getting ready to give it a go. Thanks for sharing!
The roll of fencing I used was the 2”x4”, 72 inches tall and 100 ft long. The longer the roll, the heavier it is, which makes moving it less than fun. They usually come in 50 ft as well which would make it much easier probably. Hopefully this helps, good luck!
I love the sliding door!
Thank you! It was fun to build. I have a video of it if you’d like to check it out. Cheers!

Thank you for such a wonderful comment. I just recently got a new camera and am planning on new videos soon. All the best!
Easiest one I’ve seen.I’m going to give this one a whirl. Thanks!
Very nice garden setup you have! The chickens seem happy.
Marqueta Graham Thank you. This year I am planted by a bunch of cucumber plants just for them. I seeded their run with clover, oats and wheat for spring since the garden will be off limits until the fall. Appreciate the comment, ATB
I made a tunnel like this for our 2 sulphur crested cockatoos. They can go from the huge cage indoors, through a cat door, out, trough a tunnel into a big avary.
Neddless to say, they love it! Works a treat. Have not thought about making one for the chooks though! Great idea!
Thank you, we are both disabled, can get around a snails pace so this design should work for us, with help! I'd love to see a video of how you made your roll gate, that's much nicer than a regular gate. Very nice ... Your chickens look healthy and loved 😊
Love that garden sliding door... great job on the chicken tunnel.. 👍🏼😊
Suriyati S. Thank you! They seem to love it. They go right to it first thing in the morning. The sliding door was a fun build. I did a video on it as well if you'd like to check it out. Lots of trial and error lol. ATB
fireballmalone1 I'll check that out. You did great with the land .. and chicken! 👍🏼
I just saw your channel, I liked the way you set up your garden and the chicken run . I can see the passion in you, so I immediately liked and subscribed. Thank you.
Thank you SO MUCH! I really enjoy building things around the property with an overall idea in my head of how it will all fit together. It changes all the time though. I really appreciate the kind comment, Cheers!
Hey nice set up! Clean, functional and even peaceful:)
Holly Rock thank you! They seem to be pretty happy. I've made some improvements and changes since it's a learning process. Still getting eggs all winter! ATB
Love your garden area! Great work!!!
Happy chickens
Swimbait1 Thanks! They seem to be pretty content. ATB
What a cool set-up! Thanks!
Thank you for the inspiration, and perfect solution for my chicks. Very nicely done!
karen Overshiner Thanks! I hope it goes well for you. Mine took to it immediately. It’s a great way to get them in the garden to till and eat up all the bugs before/after planting season. ATB
Living the dream. Great video. New subscriber.
Great Video, Thanks for showing in detail, how to build the tunnel . I am going to use your design this Season. Ron Shook
Nice setup awesome
Thanks!!
Thank you! Beautifully done. You should have thousands of likes. You are awesome!
BigBlessedFamily 2000 Thank you so much! These are fun videos to do. I’m happy you enjoyed it. ATB!

I like you barn door to your garden
Beautiful video, I love your coop, garden and ur chicken tv. The drone shot was awasome ❤
Thank you!
helpful video and great garden setup you have! I have some chicken tunnel builds on the horizon
Dave Rudolph Thanks for the feedback!! I still have my Tunnel up and the chickens will head into the garden and till the beds when the weather isn't really bad. Good luck with your builds!
That is just a great idea and I love how you have your garden set up. I had to subscribe. Thanks
Thanks! Great video! Happy chickens 🙏✌️
Man! I like the garden!
Looked at this video again....lol...need to make a few tunnels for my birds ! Keep them out of my garden...I have approximately 40+ Chickens, most are tiny Serama bantams...... . it's the young laying pullets, that I need to keep out of the plants....those big feet, compared to the Seramas, can do some serious excavation... Lol. Your videos are really helpful for someone like me....I can raise plants and animals....it's the building that Boggles me. ATB. Ron Adirondack Mountains...
Love this video.
They're pretty much the healthiest looking chickens I've ever seen.....Not that I go looking that often :)
The land looks like it's really thriving under your care. Loved the drone shots too - B
Bimble thanks! They seem to be pretty happy. I've never eaten so many eggs!
And eggs with the deepest orange, protein - rich yolks, I'm sure... JEALOUS! (I can't wait til I am where I can, once again, keep chickens!)
It may not be predator proof but you can go back and add one your idea is very thought in your tunnel is there small grrr garden its for the CHICKEN'S
I like this very much
thank you
For sharing THANK YOU
Amelia Jacquez I have to admit that lettuce an cucumbers have a large plot and that’s all for the chickens. CHEERS!!!
Thsnk you
Hi,Nice job, You will get a beautiful chicken run, very impressive beautiful environment. Thanks for your ideas,
Just for who need SEBOSS hardware cloth,1/2,1/4 opening ,19 GA, Hot dip galvanized after welding, double galvanized, strong and sturdy, delicate and beautiful, suitable as chicken coop, gopher wire, protect chicken lawn/garden from all kinds of gophers.
Thank you. This was really helpful!!
That was awesome man. We start to build another one here when snow is melt down.
Happy ladies! Nice job.
FIDO Thanks! The garden is rocking this summer and they are determined to get in. Not until fall! Lol.
Super yummy treats in the garden for those hens, I'd say! Plus, I'll bet a nice, little fall getaway to break up the humdrum... Haha. Nicely done.
Laurel Holliday they also till the soil in the boxes and fertilize them. My yard will be bug free this year, lol!
not gonna lie, super jealous of the garden! the jalapenos look ready for a delish salsa or poppers! nice video.
Heather R thanks, I underestimated how many jalepenos grew from one plant and I've been giving them away. Stuffed, breaded and grilled. This summer has had tons of eggs and peppers lol.
i like your garden
Thank you!! It is constantly evolving as I learn and a joy to work. The chickens are great little workers especially in the winter. Cheers!!
Chooks on a run raid for snails equipped with sniper range and bayonet. Gotta build me some of these.
Hey, go pro these chooks and make a movie with sound effects of war.
Lol, that’s on the list of important things to do!
Loved seeing the land!
Lauren Laurino it's a blast working in the yard.
JUST HEAVENLY!!!
Nice set up 👍🏻 subbed
That's awesome! Thanks for the comment and the sub! ATB
Lucky chickens
Ps: love your channel. I will be a regular viewer and a learner.
Georgette Wood Thanks, I really appreciate the kind words. ATB
Thanks!
Fun seeing the chickens in the garden. What are the coral colored flowers in the left bed? They are gorgeous!
Thanks, I'm not sure on the flowers. We were gifted those from a friend in the Mennonite community near here. We helped repair a greenhouse and they insisted we take them. I will try and find out!
Just finding this because I've been trying to herd my chickens from the run to the garden unsuccessfully. Thank you for posting this! Do the raised beds prevent the birds from eating everything in your garden?
I’m happy you found this helpful. The chickens will do some damage if they’re let in during the growing season, and the will munch on what they can reach. After a little while they tend to get bored and move along. I don’t let them in in the beginning of the growing seasons while everything is getting established, but will allow them access only a few times before fall cleanup. After that they have full access because they will slightly till, weed, and debug the boxes pretty well going into winter. Hope this helps, cheers!
I really like your garden gate that I saw near the end of the video.
I am trying to predator proof my Garden & new chickens from mostly deer & raccoons, here in Oregon. I'm also enlarging the garden at the same time.
The tunnel really caught my eye too. Reminded me of one I saw many years ago that gave the chickens access to several compost piles and surrounded the garden on 3 sides like a horse shoe. I have a barn door gate bracket, is that what you used for the gate?
I'm no carpenter, so I have to be able to explain it well or show it to get one built for me.
Thank you! I enjoyed seeing your video and beautiful garden.
Cat Funk Criteser Thanks for the great comment and good luck with your garden. I looked at the barn door style brackets but they were expensive so I ended up using stuff I had lying around. I did a video on how I built it if you would be interested: th-cam.com/video/QXRKQTQ2DwQ/w-d-xo.html
Like you I am inexperienced building stuff so you can watch me struggle through it haha. ATB!!
Can you do a video on how to make the sliding door? Also do your chickens ever eat your garden stuff? I'm always fencing them out of the garden because I don't want them to eat all my produce! Ha! Lovely setup you have though :)
They do definitely destroy stuff thats for sure. Now that we are getting better at growing we stop their access to the garden when we start planting, which started about 2 weeks ago. I did a video on the door that I hope is helpful and thank you for the comment! Cheers!
th-cam.com/video/QXRKQTQ2DwQ/w-d-xo.html
How do you keep prey animals from getting inside the tunnel? In Oklahoma, we can have 50mph winds on any given day. I’m a little concerned about stability. I’m looking at tunnel strong enough to keep out raccoons, possums, dogs, cats, and skunks. I’m so new at this, I’m just in the looking stage. Maybe I’m overthinking this whole thing. I do love the simplicity. Thank you for your video.
Skunks raccoons possums are only around at night here and by then our girls are shut safely in the coop. We use an auto door.
That is great! I laughed out loud at 6 minutes when you used the wheelbarrow and two of your chickens 'followed' you using their chunnel, three others appear to have gotten lost in the 'veggie patch maze' before they were able to find the chunnel. What do you do with it when you need to cut your grass? I have about 100' to cover and I think I would prefer sections so I can move it a bit easier. I am not sure how that would work yet.
Thank you!!!
Hi, cool vidéo, i love your sliding door !
Personnaly i have done a chicken tunnel with a wire fence rolled on onto itself like a tube, and at the connections i've made a soft articulation with an alternance of hard wirefence (two rows) and soft chiken wire (about 30 centimetres), until you can bend it at 90 degre. Then you can had any number of section that you want and move the chiken tunnel around like a big snake, in order to maw the lawn with the chickens, and place them where you want the grass and weeds to be eaten.
Sébastien Fraggl That sounds like a great idea. It would add a new level of versatility to it. Lately we have been spending so much time in the yard the chickens have been able to roam around and free range. I cut the Chunnel up into 5 ft sections and was planning on connecting with some small hinges so I could fold it up when not in use. The winter time here is when we see a spike in predators. I like your idea. I may have to revisit mine and tweak it a bit. Thanks!! ATB
Just a thought: It would be easier to bend the wire if you used a board a couple feet long to stand on while you pull it up.
thank you !!!
How do you hold the tunnel sections in place on the ground? How do you connect one section to the next of the tunnel. Do you leave the chickens out over night and not loss any to predators in the tunnels or runs? Can you tell me more about the stakes you used? I think I want to find and use them. Thanks.
To hold the tunnel down I use camp tent stakes, because I had a ton of extras. When this kind of fencing is cut one end is going to be flush and the other will have the protruding pieces that can be folded UP into the next section so they don't pose a threat to piercing the chickens as they run through. I have doors now on both ends and at night those doors are closed and they are secured in the coop. The doors are manual and have to be opened just for the day so they can run across to the garden. Now we are planting a ton more as we get more efficient and spring to fall the chunnel is put away. I hope this helps. Cheers.
Genius!
John 3:16 KJV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
wow thanks man !!
excellent
Great video! Id love to know who made the music so I can buy it.
Mark Norman THANKS! The music is actually royalty free music you can download on TH-cam’s audio library. I can’t remember the name of the track but I have the original file at home. I’ll send you the title tonight, cheers!
fireballmalone1 Great!! Thank you.
Mark Norman I found the track and added it to the video description, but here it is: Sugar Pines by Wes Hutchinson. It can downloaded and used for free because it is royalty free.
th-cam.com/users/audiolibrarymusic
I couldn't get this to work on a mobile device. Hope this helps and thanks for the comment. ATB
fireballmalone1 i got it!! Thanks.
It looks like welded wire you were using, is it? The field wire I have is woven, I'm not sure it would bend and hold shape like that. I have some 1" chicken wire I wonder if that would work.
What drone do you have? I would love to video my Out Door Class Rooms!
If you have a lot of predators I’d use hardware mesh instead. I lost a hen. When a predator pulled half of her body through one of those squares. So sad!
Oh my gosh, I can’t even imagine! I’m sorry you had to see your poor girl like that . 😣
Is your garden area covered? I couldn't tell.
No, we never covered the garden. Haven’t really had too many issues with birds, and we have a bunch of crows we throw out seed for and they chase the hawks away.
@@fireballmalone1 thank you for your reply.
@@pattismith8417 good luck!
Do predators not mess with them?
We’ve been fortunate that the only predators that seem to be around are prevalent at night. We did lose one to a fox and kept them locked down for a few weeks. We do let them free range a few times a week, but there’s always someone working the yard for the most part
How to make it predator proof would be a great help.
One of the things I added were camping stakes to help keep it secured to the ground. For a long term solution I would add an additional section of wire at the base and bury it. That’s how I did my coop and it’s withstood many attempts by various animals to get in. I hope this is helpful and good luck
What was that plant behind where you were sitting, with the orange flowers?
Kazzana the flowers in the garden area were pretty much all hydrangeas. They were given to us by a Gardner in the Mennonite area near here so they didn't have tags. Hope this helps :)
By-the-way, you don't let your chickens in the garden while you produce grows do you ?
Elwood Hurrin No, they would destroy everything. They’d have a blast, but it would be destruction. This was my first year growing and having chickens and I was just trying to get as many long term systems figured out. I put it back up in December and I’ll take it down in the beginning of March when I start bringing out my starters. Cheers
Do you give them raw meat? They love that😁
Actually I don't. The only animal products I eat are the eggs they gift us from taking care of them. I don't eat any meat or dairy products, and stay away from factory farmed eggs. We recently saved some Barred Rocks that were basically going to left to die and they 4 of 5 bounced back after a bout of upper respiratory infections, we did lose one. But she had a good life for a little while. I have given them meal worms and we were given 3000 crickets from a local farm that just stopped by one day and we released them in the forest while the girls were free ranging and it was scary how aggressive they got lol. Cheers!
What brand is that wire
I saw one that was round...just an idea
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Nice set up... but I would use hardwire cloth so raccoons/possums couldn’t stick their hands in and kill the chickens.
The Chick Guy That’s a good idea. Around here most predators come out at night but in the winter time we get foxes. Hardware cloth would be much sturdier and a safer option. Thanks for the recommendation. Cheers
I’ve had ducks... and at first we had no idea what we were doing and most of ducks got killed when we had a chicken wire pen... I want some chickens and I am much more prepared this time, when I had the ducks I was only like 4 or 5 anyway.
The Chick Guy I hope you are able to get some chickens. They are such a blast to have running around the yard. Predator proofing your coop is a pretty good way to keep them safe. I tried really hard making sure nothing could get in. During the day we actually let them out now but the chunnel goes back up in the fall and I might remake it with hardware cloth
Thank U! hope all your chickens stay happy and healthy like they are!🐣🐣🐣🐥🐥🐥🐔🐔🐔🐓🐓🐓
