YES. I love how he uses that E power chord to make the "ding-dong" pattern of the tolling bell with the low E, especially because the chord makes it sound fuller and more powerful than if it were just a single note pattern. Plus Cliff just knows how to rest on the G, and then have the perfect lick to go on to the next set of bars. Also the C and A octave lines are peak metal badass. RIP Cliff, you brilliantly creative SOB.

ImBsal definitely electric. acoustic basses aren't very loud and if you like music like this you aren't going to get the tone you're looking for in an acoustic
I’ve been a guitarist for 1 and a half years aswell, I just learned this song and some parts of Orion on bass because my brother has a bass guitar and a bass, couldn’t miss on the opportunity so I added new strings and started head banging to cliff bass shredding. Don’t wanna be a bass player tho, just doing it for a bit since my brother will eventually will get mad at me
Finally someone who's actually doing it right. I did this search and the guitar players who came up first have no idea what they're doing. This bassist can do it like Cliff. Nice. Except it always sounded to me like he slid up into the 6th note higher on the neck where the main riff starts. You could pull that off easy.
It starts on 19 of the G, but it's much harder to have your hands in a comfortable position on a 20 fret. Also cliff would solo a lot across the main solo and he had a lot more flexibility due to having a 24 fret bass.
Wolfoe 3604 cliff played this on a Rickenbacker which have 20 frets but he had a lot of flexibility because they have a neck-thru construction giving it good access to the high frets.
