Thanks! This video really helped. The dealer was charging me 100 dollars to change it. I cut a small notch were the screw was. I was not dealing with poor design. Now I could change it in about 5 mi minutes.

Whichever engineer placed that screw there and then covered it with a dashboard panel should get an open-handed smack across the face. That was just a dick move. I cut a notch in the panel so next time the screw is obvious and easier to get out.

All you need to do is: the first time you change the cabin air filter either use a box cutter to notch the plastic to access the screw or, Like I did, just use a soldering iron to create the notch. Much easier than fighting with the retaining screw.

Well done ...... one would think that between my 2018 and 2020 Traverse that Chevy would make the proper cutout for the T20 torque screw.....and you are correct, the screw is not metal. Thank you for posting this video! BTW, you may want to take my tip: I created a label which I tacked to the area below the screw with a reminder for a T20 and how to remove! One last comment, when reinstalling, remember that the hinge will retract, just pull down on it to reconnect!

I threw that screw as far as it was engineered to fly. Don't need it!

Take your handy dandy Dremel with a sanding drum and clearance the plastic, it took 2 minutes. The next guy will thank you whether they know you or not!

Thanks for sharing, I have a 21 traverse with less than 500 miles.
When its time to swap the filer out and if that screw is the same way om making a small notch on it for future use.

That fact that you did it with one hand gives me confidence that I can do it.....but I will still likely get my husband to do it anyway. lol

It's really not that hard and beats paying the dealerbor another mechanic to do it 🙃

You don’t have to put the screw back In, it’s secure enough without it

Used a Utility blade and made a custom notch for that screw. Problem solved on ours.

It is worth cutting out a small square area where the screw is with knife.

I ordered the filter you said to get in this video for my 2020 traverse. Amazon said it would fit. I tried to slide it in easily but it seemed too thick wouldn't go in easily I had to jam it in.

what a pain in the ass that was, i did my 2015 tundra in 5 mins. watching you it took me 30 mins. to do my 2020 traverse. no wonder the dealer wanted $70 bucks to do it. next time i do it, I will notch out the plastic to get to the screw. you won't see it, because it will be behind the glove box. thanks for the help lastly, my filter looked pretty clean. we have 20 k on the car. might just save it . the one i put in just looks white. so in a year i'll see how bad it is . the one from the factory had some charcoal mixed in so you can't see the dirt.

Idiotic unnecessary pain in the butt screws. Why? So you have to take it to the dealer and pay them. All they had to do was have the clips on the sides like every other normal car

Don’t fight with the torque screw. Just make a hole without drill where the torque screw is. Makes it a whole easier👍
