It has some good tracks. But some are just bland. I do like it still though and play it for a while. The soundtrack really fits like all the Wipeout games.
Out of all tracks in Fusion, Temtesh Bay is literally hell on Earth, especially courses 2 and 3 in both directions. It's no wonder the disaster happened there, where the underground mine collapsed due to the explosions of F.E.I.S.A.R.'s "Super Missiles", which ended up killing six pilots and indirectly started the fall of the F9000 League.
Yes, Temtesh filtered me hard the first time I played the game. Going from Stanza Iter a few months earlier to that was....disappointing, to say the least. I was one of the forfeiting pilots...
3 is the winner in the soundtrack category for me. I didn't like Fusion OST on release, but I have to admit it grew a lot on me through the years, so many bangers!

I can't understand the people that criticised this game for looking "generic". I understand that the fact that they didn't work with The Designer's Republic on this game was a bummer, but that doesn't automatically make this game's look shit. hell, at times it looks like a massively upgraded version of the first two (the Central American jungle track looks like a modern reimagining of the Valparaiso track from 2097, for example). it's just that the camera is kinda awful on the original release, and that hides the great new ship designs they made for the game, which shine here on the PCSX2 emulator with a camera patch. I love the subsequent games that came since, but I really wish Wipeout had gotten out of its comfort zone more like it did with Fusion.
Each area having multiple courses is a wonderful idea, but I find hard to compare Fusion tracks to the older ones, since the ships in the ps1 trilogy control and react to obstacles too much differently. Some of the open areas in Fusion would be a nightmare for an Icaras ship from 3!
I've read an article about Psygnosis/Studio Liverpool and WipeOut, and apparently the original pitch was that it would be an anti-gravity rally, so if anything Fusion is the closest to that original idea

The best of the series. I unlocked all the game modes and completed the 98% of the game. What missed to me to complete the whole game was the increasing speed course to be completed without damaging the shield to destruction: i went nearly close to achieve that mission. My preferred game mode was infinite weapons i used to play with to destroy all the others ships
I have an original Kappa eGR racing top that was some of the very limited merch run of this game. Someone found it in an old gaming store backroom in Blackpool and had no idea what it was. Its one of my most prized things I own lol.
This is my first Wipeout, just picked up a used copy and looking forward to playing it tonight. I really like the soundtrack including Stacker Humanoid!!
Haven’t got my first Wipeout yet. I have a PS1 PS2 and PSP so it’s not like I don’t have options. Got the PS1 on EBay (because of a small fiasco) and I somehow ended with a copy of Oddworld Abe’s Exodus (I had ordered Ridge Racer Type 4) but oh well. I’ll use it to test the console to make sure it works, and I’ll make a TH-cam video out of it. Btw is Fusion any good? Looks like it might be worth getting for myself
@@wieldylattice3015 Fusion's great, though I'd recommend getting the iso and patching it with the PS2 patch engine so that the game looks like it does in this video (search for the Wipeout Fusion camera fix and the file should pop up), else you'd have to deal with the weird camera from the original release which, along with the open canopy design from some of the ships, is one of the only negatives I can find. the soundtrack is excellent, and I think the much reviled ship physics are actually not that bad once you get used to them. the track design is delightfully complex and varied, Alca Vexus is like an updated Valparaiso, for example.

I remember getting this with my ps2 back in like 2002 or whatever aged 8 and being big into Phantom Menace this just gave me such like pod racing vibes and lots of great memories

I had a ps2 as a kid but I never discovered this game,it kinda was the black sheep of the whole franchise but I also like the fact that the ship looks like it’s been damaged on low health

I love all wipeout world, Iam engoying the flow and physics of the ships. I stared on ps1, the played wipeout hd furry. I wish to play wipeout fusion, I never see this game so I order it, buy ps2 as adult and make my dream realyty. Wipout fusion is one of the best wipouts, I love how dark are some track, track desng, and the trackas all just INSANITY.
I loved Fusion so much. Althought it had its fair share of issues (audio mixing, bugs and pace), and although it has the single worst track in the series (Temtesh 2, forwards AND backwards), it still brought a lot of lore, personality and mystique to the table, something I wish more WipEout games did. Not only did they bring back the names of the pilots, you could see what they looked like too. Natasha Belmondo wasn't piloting for AG Systems/G-Tech or Auricom, Jann of Piranha was so devoted to his team that he got a massive tattoo on his forehead, and Paul and Alex of EG-R looked incredibly augmented, as if they weren't racing of their own will almost. Stuff like that made me WANT to unlock everything.
We got better presentation and working games at the cost of their personality. After Triakis entering the fray, I fail to recall any significative development in the Wipeout world. By this point of view, Fusion is probably the best of the whole series.

Yes, it's emulation forcing 16:9. Looks miles better, more playable as well. The weird thing is, the 16:9 option was programmed in game as well, but it's bugged. By selecting it, you still have the usual visual were you can't see well even your ship rear, but the game was made for this screen ratio as well. In my opinion it's because of things like these, screaming rushed development, that it is considered the black sheep of the series. A few more months before release could make the difference, but luckily there is emulation today.

@@BlascoDeBlaschis None of this is true. You're using a widescreen patch for PCSX2 that changes the camera position, as well as adjusts the menu screens and massively increases the FOV. The notes inside the patch file literally say this. It's not fixing any "bugged" code it's entirely changing game code. All of this improves the game significantly but can also give the wrong impression, because it makes Fusion seem way better than it actually was.
My favorite Wipeout is still Wipeout 3 if only for the soundtrack but I might give this game a whirl if I find it out in the wild. I've been missing this kind of futuristic racing action for a while. Might also get my hands on Kinetica for the same reason. The only difference in that game is YOU ARE the vehicle.
I enjoy WipEout 3, but find some bits of it needing a little more work especially with visibility on some tracks. I very much enjoyed Pulse on PSP (PS2 version is trash due to terrible framerate - you honestly need 60fps to play these games right). The HD collection on PS3 is also 👌
Also for modern consoles would recommend the Redout series. The soundtrack of the original Redout is the GOAT, Redout 2 soundtrack is just okay, but it’s still Redout

This version of Wipeout was great for various reasons, including the stereo sound and some of the intense music tracks; but here, we have that represented as mostly a thunky center channel and some mild things to the left and right. Basically, the music is in mono: do I misremember the sound output of this game? Did they really put the music on a mono channel and only the sound effects in stereo?
No, I found a playthrough by RacingGameArchive that represents the stereo presentation more accurately than this, even though there is digital aliasing, the spread of the sound is more accurate to what it was in the game. Unfortunate that this Blasco Gaming version, while a great play, suffers from inaccurate sound representation, particularly as regards stereo field.
Thank you for your compliment! You seem to know way more about sound representation than me, I simply used the default stereo settings in game and the default audio plugin for the emulator, Geforce Experience was used to record. Any help and tip is very appreciated!
@@BlascoDeBlaschis Ah, emulator! My apologies for being so critical. It is not uncommon for emulators to get the sound wrong while getting the graphics right. In the PS2 days of surround sound, developers could create a 'pseudo' surround effect even with only stereo outputs from the PS2 going to those old 5.1 receivers. For a sound to appear also on the back speakers, you'd take a hard right or left sound, and mimic that with its inverse at a lower volume on the opposite side, and this is likely what they did with some of the sound effects on this game (to make certain effects in surround), while keeping the stereo music mix as traditional stereo. That way, sound effects are in surround but the music plays mostly on the front two speakers. I believe the default audio plugin took this information and mixed everything to traditional stereo, eliminating that effect but at the same time reducing the stereo spread of the music. Despite the stereo spread problems, the sound fidelity of your transfer is good - better than that horrible compressed HD version that's here on TH-cam. As I listened to yours, I lamented the fact that I no longer have the audio tool that I could have used to re-spread this sonic image to its glorious original. Hi, I forced 16:9 in pcsx2 settings. Other details are in the description. The game was basically already set for widescreen as you can see from the video, but the in game option doesn't work.
Hi, I updated the description. I think the most important things to do are forcing 16:9 through the emulator and not in game, and increasing the internal resolution in the video plugin options. I went for just 1080p but a beefy pc can easily reach 4k.
Why do people hate on Wipeout Fusion so much? Seriously, the ship physics? They've been a PITA since the first game. It's why I gravitated towards F-Zero. But Fusion is still frickin awesome
It's a mix of factors. Personally, on release I disliked the AG Systems team replacement, the bigger emphasis on weapons, and that view so close to the ship rear.
I have to respectfully disagree. there may not be any Cold Storage tracks or an Xpander equivalent, but imo this is the best soundtrack of the series. the Papua New Guinea remix, Neuro, Bassheads, Blue Funk, Big Groovy Funker, Sick, Funny Breaks, they're all excellent tracks. and when played at the right moment, they elevate this game to heights unseen for the franchise even now.

Obvious I know - can I just point out THAT THIS GAME IS HARD. This guy contorls the craft so well when its going fast/. NOT EASY
compared to modern Wipeout games. this one is still superior.

Pulse was also bad on PS2 due to the fact that it could corrupt your entire memory card.

it's the emulator, it screws up the starting boost. I just started playing the iso on my PS2 and I can do the boost quite easily.

This game has lighting issues. There are entire sections of some tracks where you can't see at all.
The only game where the thruster trail bent when you turning the ship.

@@BlascoDeBlaschis Ah, emulator! My apologies for being so critical. It is not uncommon for emulators to get the sound wrong while getting the graphics right.
In the PS2 days of surround sound, developers could create a 'pseudo' surround effect even with only stereo outputs from the PS2 going to those old 5.1 receivers. For a sound to appear also on the back speakers, you'd take a hard right or left sound, and mimic that with its inverse at a lower volume on the opposite side, and this is likely what they did with some of the sound effects on this game (to make certain effects in surround), while keeping the stereo music mix as traditional stereo. That way, sound effects are in surround but the music plays mostly on the front two speakers.
I believe the default audio plugin took this information and mixed everything to traditional stereo, eliminating that effect but at the same time reducing the stereo spread of the music.
Despite the stereo spread problems, the sound fidelity of your transfer is good - better than that horrible compressed HD version that's here on TH-cam. As I listened to yours, I lamented the fact that I no longer have the audio tool that I could have used to re-spread this sonic image to its glorious original.

Fusion is quite charming but plays differently from any other game in the series. I encourage you to try the others as well!

The game was basically already set for widescreen as you can see from the video, but the in game option doesn't work.

The game was intended to look like that on widescreen, but the option is bugged. I used pcsx2 with video set to 16:9.
Please tell me what are the pc specs for this emulation

Yes, I used pcsx2 1.6 on windows.
It did mostly good, but some very specific areas have slowdowns, no matter what yout pc specs are.

I think the most important things to do are forcing 16:9 through the emulator and not in game, and increasing the internal resolution in the video plugin options.
I went for just 1080p but a beefy pc can easily reach 4k.

Seriously, the ship physics? They've been a PITA since the first game. It's why I gravitated towards F-Zero. But Fusion is still frickin awesome
It's a mix of factors. Personally, on release I disliked the AG Systems team replacement, the bigger emphasis on weapons, and that view so close to the ship rear.

I have to respectfully disagree. there may not be any Cold Storage tracks or an Xpander equivalent, but imo this is the best soundtrack of the series. the Papua New Guinea remix, Neuro, Bassheads, Blue Funk, Big Groovy Funker, Sick, Funny Breaks, they're all excellent tracks. and when played at the right moment, they elevate this game to heights unseen for the franchise even now.
