Love the video ... although you shouldn't give them honey (an old wives tale), a simple sugar and water mix usually does the job. Please add this to the video so that others will know next time. Great job helping a bee though :)
if it was dehydrated he would have died because honey don't contain water so it's better to give them 50/50 sugar + warm water so they can both drink and get energy back.
+Dankanaught Shake your head all you want. So your telling me every single plant a bee will pollinate produces honey? Bee's climb into flowers to drink the NECTAR (not honey). Nectar and Honey are not the same thing 😂 Please do some research.
+StrawberryGates So what have you been doing all day? "Not much filming a bumblebee for 2 hours."Glad you saved him though, near my neighborhood i always pick them up when they are on the road, so they do not get crushed by cars and bicycles. You really do not have to use a glass with bees and bumblebees, they are very gentle creatures. Just put your finger near them and they will just crawl on your hand and sit there peacefully. Sadly most people confuse bees and bumblebees with wasps and think they are agressive :(
+Geen naam Aye. I know. I actually have a phobia of wasps and hornets [spheksophobia] yet love bees. I find that they are both cute and serene. I have no fear of being around them because of how non-aggressive they are [one sting means death, so they're pretty coy about using it]. Unfortunately, people associate bees with wasps and hornets, as you stated. My friends and family always ask why I'm petrified of bees to which I promptly correct them in their inaccurate statement, replying that it's wasps and hornets that I fear, for they will sting you for no reasons [they don't die from a sting, hence the aggressiveness]. I love bees, though.
@Z e Worker bees are the female bees who don't get the chance to become the queen of their colony, so they have to work for her instead. There's only one queen at a time. She develops differently to the worker bees because she's allowed to eat more. Drone bees are males, and they impregnate the queens of other colonies and don't have to do any other work. This is called a eusocial structure, and is seen in some bee species, some wasp species and some ant species. Not all of them though. Bumblebees are eusocial, as are honeybees. Jerry appears to be a worker bee, but whatever they are, they're one of the many bumblebee species that's really hard to tell apart, so there's a small chance they're a drone. It's more common to see a worker bee than a drone bee outside though.
Yeah, that's a Bumble Bee, they sometimes work so hard and long 'till they are complete exhausted and fall to the ground. Hard workers, good thing you were around to give this little guy some new energy!
I found one inside one day by our window. He/she was in pretty bad shape. I set it outside but it was still there alive next morning. I gave it honey and it powered right up in about an hour. Amazing.
Thank you for saving its life, BUT too many people don't know that giving bees honey or even sugar water isn't the healthiest thing for them. It's ok to give bumblebees white sugar dissolved in water as a last resort if they're starving, but flowers contain nectar and pollen that all bees need for a healthy diet, and putting a bee on a flower where it can find nectar should be enough to give it all the energy it needs. Honey isn't good for bumblebees, but you still probably saved its life.
its a very nice thing to do, I have done it myself and its awesome. Specially since bees are so important. Also bees gets close to you its a sign of good vibes so it is good to help them if they need help. We need to help bees always in every sense, they are important for everything even when they are that small.
Great vid! I only recently found out (at age 62) that we can often easily save bumble bees in a building car etc that are no longer flying but still able to move. I put them on a flowering plant and within a few minutes they are usually re-energised. Watching them recover and fly off is such a good feeling! I used to think bees like that were gonners.
I have tried this quite a few times over the years but each time the poorly bee never seems to be able to recover to the point of flying away. It'll never stop me from trying though, these busy little buggers are so important to us !! Thanks for sharing 🐝
They get cold and hungry and dehydrate quickly then just flip on their backs and give up. You could have just picked him up in your hand and placed him gently on the surface by the honey or sugar water. They are very docile creatures. great that you saved him!
Bumblebees are so damn adorable. They're fuzzy little bastards. Like, if it weren't for stingers, they'd be the cuddliest insects ever. Juuuust saying.
Awww... I used to try and save bees when I was younger because I lived in a place where there were a lot of wild flowers and they often ended up exhausted on my window or somewhere outside. They usually rested, drank some water with sugar and went their way. Sometimes they just rested and went flying without the sugar though because I didn't know they'd eat that at first.
I love his slurpy little tongue! I was very impressed with how well he cleaned himself up afterwards too, got back to being nice and fluffy after mopping the "floor" with that honey and his body!
I've been watching a bee for the last few hours that I noticed first when 2 other bees tried to pick it up and carry it away from my walkway without success. The other bees then stopped trying to carry it and stood around it for a half hour and then flew away. The poor thing crawled so slowly into a corner and I put flower petals around it to make it comfortable. I just watched your video and just gave it a drop of pure honey and it is eating now! I hope the poor thing survives or at least is comfortable if maybe it is sick or lost its stinger! ❤🐝
Thank you for saving Jerry's life and for sharing this on TH-cam. Now I'll know what to do if or when I see a bee in distress. We humans must do what we can to help save the other species on earth. Don't think I believe veganism is the only ethical way to live. On the contrary. But when we have the opportunity to save a life I believe we SHOULD do so rather than just killing bees. I once saved a tadpole that was flipping and flopping on the grass when I took off my pool cover. He already had nubs for back legs and turned into a little bitty frog after 2-3 weeks of care, then I let him go. He ate expensive, organic, hydroponic butter lettuce (boiled) til I got some tadpole pellets.
Judging by the long, eyelash-y pollen catching hairs on the legs, I might guess that Jerry was a she-bee? Looks like Bombus terricola or Bombus lucorum to me, but I don't know where you found this little buddy so its hard to say D: if you live somewhere in Europe I would def err towards lucorum for the species
They are my favorite too. They are so fat and fluffy, goofy fliers, don't bother people, just wee little too fat to fly chubs. I look forward to seeing them every spring/summer.
Lovely. I have rescued many bees by this method, every Spring I find them! (If there is no honey available, a sugar solution is a good substitute.) Jerry, by the way, is probably female! Keep up the good work!
Awee even though jerry is just a lil bee doesn't mean you should just leave him there, we should do more to save the bees since they are the ones keeping the flowers alive. No bees=no flowers :(
My wife gets annoyed with me because I don't kill insects and spiders; I just capture them with a tissue and put them outside. I don't know if they survive, but if something kills them, it won't be me.
Nice video! Today I was walking home from school and noticed a honey bee laying on the sidewalk. So I took it home with me. I got out a good sized container and made it a home. I named it Pumpkin, because it's almost Halloween. Anyways, I sliced a sliver of a grape and put it in Pumpkin's container. And let me tell you, he loved that grape! xD
Very good I just found a big Bumble Bee in the ground I think it is to cold for it to be out so took it home and put it in a large glass dish with a lid I put some paper towel in the bottom so that it could walk without slipping that is what people forget. I then gave it some sugar water and I got some flowers from the garden that I now bees like it seems to be doing ok I will let it go if or when the sun comes out and works it up a bit as they do not like the cold.
TY for posting this, it educates ppl on how they can try to help bees. It allso shows how a creature @ the top of the food chain should act toward one a little lower down in the hierarchy ( Bees occupy one of the most important slots in the food chain, w/out them lots of other species would perish ). More needs to be done for bees especially in our swiftly changing enviroment, your actions, even toward 1 bee,are to be applauded
Sugar water is better for a bee. If the honey has any germs/ virus in it from another bee colony, the bee could potentially take this back and affect the bee colony he belongs too. But lovely to see someone who has a big heart and saved this bee's life.
...doesn't anyone here know that 'Jerry' is female? All worker bees of every species are lovely little ladies. It's still a cute video, although maybe feed her sugar-water next time.
I saved a bee a couple days ago, he was a honey bee on the ground. I didnt have honey but i found out honey bees like orange jello. I also gave him some water too. Less than an hour he flew off and told his buddies about the orange jello. It was gone after four hours and it wasnt that big of a peice.
Sugar water has no substantial difference in helping bees. If a bee is lethargic, it is already going to die. It may get an energy boost, but it will still die shortly after. You can give them it if you want, but a real difference in their population would be keeping "weed flowers" like dandelions (they get pollen from them), not using pesticides, keeping your area clean, and helping conservation organizations by donating or volunteering. Preserving the land itself will only help them. It is not that easy.
Today I found a listless bumblebee inside our greenhouse. It had obviously got trapped. I got it to climb onto the end of a thin metal strip and carried out to a nearby daffodil. It clambered on to that, then I used the strip to spill a few drops of water over him (her). I could see it reacting quickly and it moved nearer to the flower head and then, like Jerry, suddenly took off and few away high in the air. The whole process took about three minutes. How satisfying. For me and it.
This was very helpful, last summer I tried a few attempts to save some worn out bees (as I work in a warehouse so I see many of them) with sugar water but everytime I laid a drop in front of them they would go a different direction. I'll try with honey this time hopefully it will work as Summer is coming up.......Thank you
Thanks for uploading this video...I did same for my bee , who was fighting for life, not able to fly ..i checked after 20 mins, she was not there on spot.. i didn't know where she gone...Hopefully she is safe
If you don’t have any honey, sugared water is just as effective. If they look dead, it’s either that they are dead or, what usually happens is that they get cold and/ or hungry and zonk out. They need food and warmth to be able to fly.
Thanks a lot for the video.. I was trying to save one but it wasn't drinking sugar water.. tried honey and instantly.. started drinking and all happy.. very choosy must say!!
I haven't finished the video, but I've watched enough to know you gave a bumblebee honey. Thank you for saving its life, BUT please know for next time that you shouldn't feed a bumblebee honey. It needs nectar and pollen from a flower, and if no flowers are available, it's ok to give it white sugar dissolved in water as a last resort (although this can cause health problems if it's given it too often.) The best way to help bees is planting bee-friendly flowers and providing a source of fresh water if there isn't one nearby. Bumblebees often find themselves in precarious situations where they're starving and don't even have the energy anymore to keep trying to find flowers. There used to be more pollen and nectar to go around, but now the bees are starving.
I rescued a bee, she was on the road injured. She couldn't even fly properly. So I put her on a lavender and brought her home. So I made her a little house and fed her honey. I named her Lavender because she LOVED lavender flowers. The next morning she regained energy and could fly again. So I let her out and she flew back to her hive. I am most proud about saving her from death :)
If they have not got to many mites on them I tend to put them in a plastic container with a bit of sugar water and some flower heads from the garden and put a top on and leave them over night let them go in the morning and they are recovered and fly off.
Love the video ... although you shouldn't give them honey (an old wives tale), a simple sugar and water mix usually does the job. Please add this to the video so that others will know next time. Great job helping a bee though :)
Thumbed up for accuracy. A lot of times if it's in hot weather, the bees are just dehydrated.
The honey seemed to work pretty well.

I was afraid Jerry would go and tell all his friends he had found a free supply of honey! ;)
is the bee your pet or not.. BTW it is sooooooo cute

+Delia Creighton No, Jerry is not my pet... I just found him one day dying on the floor, so I saved him.
+StrawberryGates So what have you been doing all day? go home jerry your drunk 🍺
Omg 😂😂😂😂
He's hurt not drunk but I get the joke
ur drunk
"Oh fuk man, I'm wired on that sweet sugar man. I'm a crow man. Kar kar ark ark RAW XD"
Seems like Jerry drank too much Jerry lol
I like how he is sitting on his butt after 20 minutes like "that was a good meal"
When you give an insect a name it makes them so much more relatable in a way. I mean bumblebees are bros already but Jerry? Man Jerry is the man.
Jerry appears to be a worker bee, so if Jerry is a man, he's a transgender bee lol

It's because the bee's so super exhausted from lack of energy sources that it's taking it a long time to stop being confused.

I'll try with honey this time hopefully it will work as Summer is coming up.......Thank you
this is the cutest bumblebee i have ever seen in my frickin' life.
I've saved many bees and butterflies the same way, anything with sugar. even a piece of fruit.
I'm watching this while keeping an eye on the bumblebee I'm saving right now !
Btw all bees that have stingers are gals...
You name that bee jerry nice
+Dragon Productions the three types of bee are queen:female (no sting)drone :male (no sting) worker:female(sting)
You never know, It could be pronounced jey-ree. lol
Maybe the bee self-identifies as male... You don't know! ;-)
LMBO!! :,D
The way he uses his arms to slide towards the honey
I thought Jerry was gonna fall into the honey. A REAL honey bee.
Thanks for uploading this video...I did same for my bee , who was fighting for life, not able to fly ..i checked after 20 mins, she was not there on spot.. i didn't know where she gone...Hopefully she is safe
YOU EARNED A SUB FOR THIS FREAKING ADORABLE BEE!!!!!!
You saved jerrys life thank u
I just did the same thing but with nectar made of sugar and boiling water. I dipped a flower in it. Is that ok? Should i switch it to honey?🤍
No never honey people giving bad device it's sugar water. Honey can contaminate the whole colony.
Stop ruining his video with facts dude like bruh. Honey is a safe drink for bees that if needed to survive and it'll be alr
This is what the Bee Movie should have been about
Humans: Honey is to sticky
Bee: Mhm this puddlr of honey looks like a good nap spot.
If they have not got to many mites on them I tend to put them in a plastic container with a bit of sugar water and some flower heads from the garden and put a top on and leave them over night let them go in the morning and they are recovered and fly off.
