Honestly- amazing tutorial- I had been looking for how to animate a dark fog for the players- that sucked up colour- making it black and white. I knew there are filters for adding under water effects and such but only wanted it on half the screen.
This... actually made me look more into lights and actually managed to get the effect I wanted without messing around too much with regions and scripts!

That is great advice - having DMed mostly in my gamer circles, I now additionally host games for a widespread westmarches server. Who had in turn do not all own more than your standard laptop... got a comment last time how my by now slowly aged desktop must be a beast to handle a 2 story mansion map I built out of prefabs. That was a real reminder of the increased hardware use over roll20.

I started my campaign on a Dell XPS 13 old lap top and hosted on Forge. I quickly realized keeping my maps small and focusing on a lite-weight gaming experience helped alot.
      thanks for watching.

Very convincing animation of a raging waterfall pouring into a frozen solid river😂

Thanks for this! Using it now to add some water effects to a flooded dungeon. The issue I have with this technique is that because it is light it seems to automatically light up the area and provide vision. I wonder if there is a way whether it be an alternate method or some mod where can you can create this effect but have it only be visible when creatures with Darkvision or light sources show up. At the moment if a PC with no Darkvision walks into the room he sees everything :/

This is very useful ! I also had some issues with the heavier animated maps. I had done some lighting but didn’t think to use the walls to contain it to certain areas. V9 is nice !
Thanks for the advice ! Great content and presentation as always. Cheers !

V9 is amazing with the new lighting.

You seem pretty well versed in Foundry and some modules. I have a question actually..
I wanted to be able to assign two different tokens to each player still linked to the sheet- (one portrait mode for social scenes/ exploration and another that is top down for combat)
Do you know of a way to assign two different token types to one actor ?
I appreciate any thoughts you have an that. Cheers, again 🙂

I have never done that before, I would have to think on it for a quick solution.
I would guess one would have to make a macro for something like that. Sorry I could not be of more help.
Foundry Discord and also the Foundry Developer Discord is always helpful.
      Thanks for watching.

Yeah. Some scenes I want to use a portrait token linked to the actor , and others a more tactical top down for “facing” / flanking etc. Will have a look on the discord and see if there is anything out there. So many modules, so little time to explore them ! Haha

      Checkout this post : www.reddit.com/r/FoundryVTT/comments/kgnf17/easy_way_to_change_an_actors_token_image_and_size/
The first answer has a macro that might be somewhat similar to what you are looking for.
      Few tweaks probably required

The module Token variants art has an option thats changes your token based on whether your in combat or not. It also has a menu that you can assign a few different tokens to that your players can switch between on the fly as they want.

Great tips. Thanks. Do you (or anyone else here) know if this would be much of a memory hog for systems? A few of my players are running foundry on lower end laptops and I don't want to be causing them issues if I keep throwing fancy lighting displays at them each game.

The lighting is not too taxing. I suggest watching my improve performance video

its a great thing i did today as well. however, its kinda sat that the lighting is not not usable as filters-only. the downside of this animation process is that you allways will have the llight as a lightsorce on your map. kinda bad for many situations :X
