Is the chromecast odd?
So can u plug it in to a car stereo and play music that way? In order to get wify maybe u would get another device's hotspot??..
+MisaelMatute76 yes and no. yes you can connect the Chromecast to the Aux of the radio but remember it needs power so my guess for the car will be get one of those cigarette adapter with USB so you can power it but it may be a lot of cabling

i have the chromecast video and am planning on getting chromecast audio...I was wondering if it is possible to cast video to the TV while the audio will be casted to the speakers...since it would make for some awesome surround sound

Does not work well with iphone, on my android samsung tablet, can cast any audio, but not on my iphone...
Why wouldn't they put the magnet on the device itself so you could snap it to the back of the tv (if it had metal somewhere)

Maybe, but it looks like it's on the HDMI cable. It doesn't really matter I'm going to buy it for my 2nd tv anyway, it just seemed odd to me.

I just got my chromecast audio last week. Awesome! I hooked it up to my DAC --> tube amp and boy howdy. I can finally kiss that awful buggy apple music app goodbye! And by kiss I mean kick out the bloody window! So simple so easy so good. Thanks Google! Oh and thanks for the video Joshua!
if you have a monitor with no speakers built in or out put, and you have speakers, can you use the chrome cast and c/ Audi at the same time to make a fully working sound and image showing monitor

"Old speakers"? I have plenty of old speakers. None of them are powered or have a mini headphone jack to them. Guess the Chromecast audio is not for me.

you could use the Logitech Bluetooth audio adapter, its just 13$ in my country.
+Mohsin Sait If the speaker comes with Bluetooth, dont buy this for obvious reasons. But if it doesnt, I really think this option is better than a bluetooth adapter.
First of all bluetooth burns battery. Secondly bluetooth has a much more limited range. Third of all bluetooth STREAMS music, so if you get a notification, a phone call, or try to do something else while music is playing the speaker will interrupt the music and play that as well (thats why the chromecast CASTS music instead, although it has the option to stream as well), and lastly bluetooth dongles cant coordinate with each other like chromecast can. Thats why the chromecast audio is superior, especially for parties!

Ahum, ChromeCast Audio is completely pointless!
ChromeCast 2 can do all ChromeCast Audio can, plus more, for the same price.
So why buy the audio version?
Furthermore, the official setup explanation for both gadgets is rather bullshit. If you follow that, you'll need a CCA for every speaker, while just one CC2 would do the job.

OP is incorrect that chromecast audio does not have hi fidelity. Chromecast audio has a mini toslink (digital audio) connection which does connect using the earphone out connection. The audio is very good and when using toslink the ccAudio automatically enabled hi fidelity output.

The Chromecast Tv is great. The Chromecast audio is a waste of money, limited uses. Apple music not supported, (you cant play your own mp3's!) Spotify only for Premium users. Garbage.
This is true, the default music player on apple devices will not support the chromecast audio. (It uses airplay instead, requiring an apple streaming device).

I received mine 2 days ago (the Audio one) and I plugged it on 2 Hifi systems (Cambridge Amp and Speakers in my office and Cambridge Amp and Monitor Audio Speakers in my living room), as you said, nothing crazy about the sound quality but my plan is to buy a DAC from Schiit and use an optical cable... Am I crazy? Is the DAC really going to do the work or I will lose some quality anyway? As I see it, the song played will stay in it's original format until it's decoded by the the DAC...
I noticed that the top of it looks like an actual LP. It has grooves like one. I wonder if there is anything on it.
I don't really understand why he keeps saying "for old devices" when referring to the Chromecast Audio? Hell, I'd use this on a large set of speakers that already have Bluetooth! This appears far more seamless and integrated.
Not only that, it also uses internet and is thus more stable than bluetooth speakers! There really is no reason to exclude newer (maybe already wireless) devices.
You didn't mention the High Dynamic Range option in the Chromecast app.
High Dynamic Range boosts the audio quality if you have a AVR- or hifi-system.
I have a hifi-system so the audio quality was excellent when I use the HDR.
Why would it even market the product on the packaging with an Optical Output when they don't even include a cable, which would be the ONLY reason why they could make the claim, since any unit can use an adapter from 3.5mm to optical cable! What a SHAM!
For all those asking whether chromcast audio will work for phone mp3s... it all depends upon what apps get developed for it. For regular chromcast, we have loads of apps now which can stream mp3 music from phone to TV.. All these apps like local cast now need to add support for chromcast audio.. and then u will have it. About TH-cam videos playing on speakers ? thats a copyright issue. I guess only subscribers of TH-cam red in future will be able to do that.
Anyone: Can you use Vudu with the Chromecast? I have an Amazon Fire TV box that does not support Vudu; only the Flixster app--which is horrible! Thanks!

I got a 2014 Chromecast and it is a HUGE pain to install because I'm living in China and had to buy a Wifi router that could have a VPN installed in it and it also had to be compatible with Chromecast. Does Chromcast still have these issues?
have a look at the H-336 multipoint Bluetooth Reciever. (search eBay/google) blows that chromecast out of the water for about $8! and it has a built in battery.

I just bought the Chromecast Audio to listen to music from Spotify (on my mac) over my speakers. It doesn't work since you can only use a mobile device.. and you need a premium account for that. Useless for me!! I'll return it!
As much as I like Google, I'll be sticking with the Roku's I already have as I can just pick up a simple remote to use my Roku instead of my phone like say when you get a call, plus as some other's have stated it does not seem like Netflix supports the new Chromecast, and the Chromecast audio needs to be around $20 for the sweet spot price since it can't do video, so too me it does not have much advantage over a cheaper Bluetooth streamer.

Why do you NEED to have the Chromecast app in order to stream? that sucks, and even some apps don't support Chromecast. Why isn't it just Bluetooth (or at least has a Bluetooth option) so it works with every single device and application?

I love the new Chromecast, I use it every day and this new one is so quick, especially with TH-cam. The design is great, I just loop it around back on the magnet, I think the puk design was to help dissipate heat

Worst thing is, that you have to login to Google Play Music and mandatorily have to deposit your credit card or some payment method. So I brought that CC Audio right back to the store.
How this two device work together... simultaneously that is the main idea of media room... but you show how it work independently...
The reason why most TVs are 1080p is because there is a limitless difference between 1080p and 4K from a distance but when u get close to a TV u can see a clear difference however at this distance u will damage ur eyes.
Sony has had a bluetooth device in which it can be plugged in to any speaker sound system as long as it is plugged in with the coresponding audio cable for about 20.00
it looks too much hassle, it'd have been better if the chromecast audio had a battery. Have to power it is a pain in the arse. I'd just connect it using the headphone socket with dual 3.5mm jack lead.
How about digital output of chromecast audio? you mention that its "DAC" aren't as good, but what if you just keep it digital all the way..
Very nice review but there is something you need to correct. You can setup the Chromecasts (any of the reviewed) with any device with a internet browser, using chromecast.com/setup

I don't see a reason to update, my old chromecast works great, and the new one doesn't anything new really.
Chrome cast audio does not make any sense there are other devices that do the same with a built in battery so you don't have to plug it in every time, and they don't require an internet connection.

"2K" Is 1080p rounded up... It's the width of the screen that is the number in front of the "K". *1920* x 1080, 1920 rounded up is 2000, therefore, 2K. This is true for all resolutions, 4K included: *4096* x 2160, 4096 is 4K when rounded down. It sounded like you meant 1080p and 2K as different things seeing as nowadays most TV:s are 1080p and I just wanted to correct things if that was the case.
Edit: I noticed a mistake; 1080 is *not* rounded up to 2K, I said it wrong. I meant that the width of 1080p panels is 2K when rounded up. Sorry, my bad.
