The Ferrari F50 is my favorite super car because of HP2. I love it and thinks it’s looks better than the F40 personally. Same overall look, just refreshed.
Because Lewis simply drives faster than Doug. Zonda at the limit may be quite unpredictable. Idk if that's relevant but on Project Cars 2 Zonda was quite hard car to drive fast much like Porsche Carrera.

I remember seeing a white lamborghini countach in the mid to late 70’s displayed at a dealership in Western Kentucky of all places …… made quite an impression on me as a teenager/future architect :-)

From a third-world person perspective, it's insane to hear that cars like the 918 Spyder and LaFerrari are anything close to "common". Here a Mustang or a 911 are considered supercars.

I live in the Northeast, by Boston and Providence, which are major cities, but I've never seen a 918 or LaFerrari. I visited San Diego and got a bunch of pictures of supercars there lol. And just seeing something like a 911 or a Mustang (not necessarily the newest ones even) is an event in itself, let alone more expensive stuff. There are a few truly exotic cars (Veyron, Diablo, Countach are known to have at least one example of each registered locally) but it's impossible to see them on the street. They are much more valuable here than in the rest of the world, so they are kept very safe and hidden away in the hands of very, very wealthy people by our local standards. Sometimes I laugh when Doug calls something a "bargain", I respect him but he lives a very privileged life, very different to even the vast majority of other Americans as I see.
They are not common in the sense that you see them every day, they are common in the sense that they made like 500 of one and 1000 of the other, and since they're new owners bring them out to events frequently, so it's not hard to see them. The arguments brought forward by Doug on why the F1 isn't as interesting to him anymore are the same that made me lose interest in the Skyline GT-Rs. I absolutely love these things, but not for the prices they're going for at the moment

A lot of those 90s era Japanese sports cars have gotten to the point their prices don't add up to what you're buying. Like over $100k for a Supra? That's just stupid.

What does define what a supercar is? Price? Performance? Availability? Because if it is performance the lastest 911 GT3 RS will beat any from this list. What makes a supercar is entirely subjective.
You don't start to dislike a car based on the price... I mean sure it might be out of reach but if it's really your favorite or one of your favorites no matter the price you'll still love it.

the 959 is one of my favourite cars. I just think it was so ahead of it’s time. Maybe I’m biased cuz I am doing a research paper on the 959, but I like the 959 just as much as the f40. I have never seen an f40 but I have seen a 950. Hopefully one day I can see an f40.
Will you publish your findings somewhere? Im doing a blog about cars and I already covered 959 Gruppe B, but Im always happy to find new sources and could write more about road going 959 Sport, Komfort or Sport II.
I keep trying to pin down why Doug is my favourite car review guy (except for Hammond, May and Clarkson, but they have to come as a set). Jay isn't exactly a "normal" car enthusiast. Rather, think of somebody with a decently successful dental practice or a few franchise restaurants. Making VERY good money but they still have to be careful with their car spending as they have commitments in terms of house, savings, family... So many cars can't be managed until you've got a reliable income above $5 million and/or a net worth above $1-200 million. It's one thing to have a 3 series and your lease is more than your rent. But to have a 10k square foot house and have your car repairs cost more than your mortgage/owner's equivalent rent...

I'm not too heartbroken, Doug has some... oddball tastes and opinions. Some rational opinions, some not so rational opinions. He's great at what he does, but you can't expect him to be perfect. After all, he thinks the 959 is ugly and "too much like a 911"; and yet he quite likes the Vector W8, a caricature of a car with a hum drum choice of engine and drivetrain. You can't take this guy so seriously.
Why does Doug never show love for the McLaren P1. I would consider that as the best looking car ever, and he said the P1 GTR was one of the best cars to drive, and even on his Doug Score he rates McLaren too low.

Nah; 2nd Gen. I've owned both. The best day of pre-LP ownership was the day I sold it. Pre-LP was too jerky at low speeds, broke too much, couldn't reverse (especially not up hill), and was just a bit of a pain. 2nd gen doesn't sound as good. But, it's better in every other way.

It may just my age but I think the Diablo is one of the best looking Lamborghinis ever made. To me it looks much better than the earlier Countach, and even the later Murcielagos and Aventadors. I love the pop up headlights, V12, manual only. It doesn’t get any better. I used to have the Alpine poster.
The Speedtail is one of the coolest supercars in years for me because it looks like one of those wild futuristic concept cars from the 90s finally made into a real car.

Great list Doug! I agree with a lot of this. Having grown up in Diablo/F40/Xj220/EB110 times, it was great to see you honestly review each of them! And I'm right there with you on the Diablo SE... But I'd go one further and say the Diablo SE Jota. Those twin roof scoops, evil looking wheels and 30 purple... The TRUEST Diablo of them all 😁👌
The fact that Doug put the 1994 Lamborghini Diablo SE30 on his list makes me incredibly happy. Everyone always goes on about the 1998 SV but I've always liked the SE30 way more.

I live in Kansas City and our local Lambo collector bought an XJ220 a couple months ago. I saw it for the first time this weekend and it was certainly cool. It’s definitely something that has a presence just because of the rarity and stature of it. He actually drives his cars, so it’s spotted pretty often. He has a ton of Lamborghinis that he actually drives as well. Today he had out his Lamborghini Islero.
As a kid I had a calender on my bedroom wall that featured a lot of these cars. I don't even think they make those calendars anymore. Plus, i've drawn A LOT of them as well. I used to buy duPont Registry magazines and draw everything in them. Haha. Good times.
It's funny how McLaren has made some of the Best (F1, P1, and Speedtail) and Worst (almost everything they've made since 2011) supercars in history. If they source the best parts and have their best people build the cars by hand, they're amazing, but as soon as their "lesser" assembly workers are involved everything goes to hell.

Because the F40 is an icon. Sometimes, a car's true iconic status adds so much that it can overcome slight differences in driving experience. Frankly a modern F8 drives better than an F40 *OR* an F50, and the F8 is faster -- but it would never appear on anyone's list of all-time favorite supercars. It's not an icon, and it never will be.

My 7 favorite supercars would be CLK GTR, 1st Gen Murcielago, Pagani Zonda S, LFA, CCXR, F1 GTR from NFS High Stakes (PS1 Version) and SLR McLaren

Jay isn't exactly a "normal" car enthusiast. Rather, think of somebody with a decently successful dental practice or a few franchise restaurants. Making VERY good money but they still have to be careful with their car spending as they have commitments in terms of house, savings, family...
So many cars can't be managed until you've got a reliable income above $5 million and/or a net worth above $1-200 million. It's one thing to have a 3 series and your lease is more than your rent. But to have a 10k square foot house and have your car repairs cost more than your mortgage/owner's equivalent rent...

I'm not too heartbroken, Doug has some... oddball tastes and opinions. Some rational opinions, some not so rational opinions. He's great at what he does, but you can't expect him to be perfect.
After all, he thinks the 959 is ugly and "too much like a 911"; and yet he quite likes the Vector W8, a caricature of a car with a hum drum choice of engine and drivetrain. You can't take this guy so seriously.

Why does Doug never show love for the McLaren P1. I would consider that as the best looking car ever, and he said the P1 GTR was one of the best cars to drive, and even on his Doug Score he rates McLaren too low.

Nah; 2nd Gen. I've owned both. The best day of pre-LP ownership was the day I sold it. Pre-LP was too jerky at low speeds, broke too much, couldn't reverse (especially not up hill), and was just a bit of a pain. 2nd gen doesn't sound as good. But, it's better in every other way.

I don’t know if the legendary Prince ever owned the Diablo SE30 but I will tell myself he did; it seems almost tailor-made for his whole vibe/personality & I now want to associate it with him
It may just my age but I think the Diablo is one of the best looking Lamborghinis ever made. To me it looks much better than the earlier Countach, and even the later Murcielagos and Aventadors. I love the pop up headlights, V12, manual only. It doesn’t get any better. I used to have the Alpine poster.

The Speedtail is one of the coolest supercars in years for me because it looks like one of those wild futuristic concept cars from the 90s finally made into a real car.

The fact that Doug put the 1994 Lamborghini Diablo SE30 on his list makes me incredibly happy. Everyone always goes on about the 1998 SV but I've always liked the SE30 way more.

I live in Kansas City and our local Lambo collector bought an XJ220 a couple months ago. I saw it for the first time this weekend and it was certainly cool. It’s definitely something that has a presence just because of the rarity and stature of it. He actually drives his cars, so it’s spotted pretty often. He has a ton of Lamborghinis that he actually drives as well. Today he had out his Lamborghini Islero.
Thanks to Doug, market value of these cars have doubled

As a kid I had a calender on my bedroom wall that featured a lot of these cars. I don't even think they make those calendars anymore. Plus, i've drawn A LOT of them as well. I used to buy duPont Registry magazines and draw everything in them. Haha. Good times.

Watching this now after Doug has bought a Porsche Carrera GT is so great.
It's funny how McLaren has made some of the Best (F1, P1, and Speedtail) and Worst (almost everything they've made since 2011) supercars in history. If they source the best parts and have their best people build the cars by hand, they're amazing, but as soon as their "lesser" assembly workers are involved everything goes to hell.

Because the F40 is an icon. Sometimes, a car's true iconic status adds so much that it can overcome slight differences in driving experience. Frankly a modern F8 drives better than an F40 *OR* an F50, and the F8 is faster -- but it would never appear on anyone's list of all-time favorite supercars. It's not an icon, and it never will be.
