    Did anyone LOVE and play with Colorforms when you were a child?! Well I did! And then I started making my own. Now, every little girl must grow up right (really?!) but this girl still plays with paper dolls. One one my favorite things to do, accept I make my own and my own hand made pattern painted paper too. This weekend I played and played. She is an angel who is bringing us all a bit of much needed peace. I created her from within my thoughts and she quickly came to life on my painted paper. I created a template that will be for sale for downloading on my website, so other folks who love paper piecing can purchase and download my pattern and make their own too.

    I never considered doing gel prints with a specific theme in mind! Thanks for the very detailed information, and for sharing your artwork.

    • @barbarabeckmannart4058

      I try to always have a stack of specific colors for skin colors and then several prints all with similar colors used like blues, purples etc. Just like I would want tubes of paint in a variety of colors, I want the prints to be able to work together to have nice contract. Sometimes when I have an idea of theme in my head, I try and think about what colors I may like to use and just do a bunch of prints in those particular colors. I always can use them in cards and other projects and well as you know it's so much fun to play.

    If a stencil or anything leaves a mark or dent in the gelli plate you can flip it/store it on the damaged side (the flat packaging will work) and in time it will smooth back out.

      Hi Lori,
      You can trace things from magazines or even print things out from online, or trace adult coloring books. They work great too.
      Hope you make something special! Have fun!

    This is amazing. Can you tell me the purpose of using the gelli plate instead of doing the stenciling right on the paper?

    • @barbarabeckmannart4058
      @barbarabeckmannart4058  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      For me I like a lot of layering which is why I start with the Gelli plate. Not all parts of my work have paper where I used stencils on top of. If I noticed a part of the paper where I used the Gelli plate on that seemed a little dull or boring or muddy colored, I save it by adding ink or a stencil on top of it. I do like the randomness of the Gelli plate and I love having many different patterns layered on top of each other. That's why I do it this way. Hope that makes some sense.

    I was wonder what type of paper pad you did your collage on? Also, is there a problem with warping. How can I prevent that. I am new at Geli printing and I am addicted to it. Love how you showed this collage technique. Thanks!

    • @barbarabeckmannart4058
      @barbarabeckmannart4058  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Frances! I used a Canson Mixed media pad. Its not warping, at all probably because I have heavy books on top of it. If it did warp it's an easy fix. I should probably show the procedure in a video. I basically would spry the back with water until it was pretty wet. Then place it in between two large foam boards (which becomes like a press) that I use to flatten my watercolor sheets. I clamp the sides together and leave it in the press until its completely dry. It could take up to a few days. Then its perfectly flat all the time. I love gelli printing too. It is a great addiction! Thanks for your comment. I am happy you reached out to me. Happy printing!! If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Have a great day! Barbara

    This was a very interesting video to watch. I guess it was something I have always wanted to create but have a bit of trouble loosening up... not having things perfect etc. but strange as it may seem the composition of the piece is well balanced and easy on the eyes. Our eyes are always “balancing” things out regarding color, styles, layout, and proportions etc. I’m not an artist but I do recognize beautiful pieces and this is one of them.

I needed some inspiration and you came along today and made me feel like my videos are worth making. They are time consuming and I do them for fun. You may never know how much I needed a wonderful inspirational comment today. I can't thank you enough for your kindness. I hope you get to play with your gelli plate and have as much fun as I do. Enjoy the process. Thanks again! Have a wonderful day! Have a Happy Thanksgiving!

      Robin, I use mixed media paper. It hold a lot of weight. Glue and paper can add on some heavy weight. I find mixed media paper works great. It hold a lot of water and medium, plus paper and glue. I think the pad I used was by Canson. 😊 fondly, Barbara

    This is amazing! Never heard of gelli print art until yesterday and now I'm going to try it. I found a cheap pack of mixed-media paper at Hobby Lobby that I've painted on with acrylics, so it should hold up pretty well for gelli prints. Where do you get your stencils?

    • @barbarabeckmannart4058
      @barbarabeckmannart4058  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Parsell Art I get all my stencils in the clearance section of craft store, like Michael’s and AC Moore. Also also make my own. I am always looking for things that aren’t traditional stencils but I could maybe use as one. I never buy art supplies unless they are on sale (or try not to). I don’t mind if they are last years designs. I buy them anywhere they sell them locally. I have also purchased some from stencil girl online but they are pricy, so I don’t buy them very often.

      PEGGY O'TOOLE when I first started doing these paper doll style art, I could not even afford materials and there were certainly no patterns like these to buy on the market. I used magazines! I traced out the models in Glamor and other fashion magazines. I made my own!! That's exactly what I would suggest to you. Make them! I couldn't afford plastic stencils to make them either, so I use Manila folders from the dollar store. They come 10pk for $1
      There is AlWAYS a way!! Think outside the box but overall enjoy the process. That's the best part!! And then you will treasure your creation! Tag me if you post picture is what you come up with. I would love to see your work.

      PEGGY O'TOOLE hi! The stencils in my video I primarily purchased Michaels and some at AC Moore. I usually glance at the clearance section and find them in there. These are pretty old but I have seen some in the store still.

      I'm so happy to get your message. Thank you!! I love when something I have a passion for inspires or encourages someone to create. That is so great!!! It's good mediation and escape from life for a bit. We are always rushing these days, addicted to cell phones, and just the busyness life brings to all of us. If we can find something that makes us stop and enjoy time creating something within, then that's all so good. Happy creating!!!! I hope you relax and truly enjoy the process. HAVE FUN! Barbara

      Bernice, thank you so much! I love hearing that my templates are enjoyed by others. I love making all kinds of art and gelli printing, paper piecing has always been at the top of my list. I enjoy creating and making them so much. Thank you for your comment. It meant so much to me. Yes, look out for more videos and templates. I plan on having more available in Jan 2018. Commission paintings and holiday orders have occupied my time 24/7 from Nov-Dec. I'm so looking forward to posting more patterns now that the holiday craziness is over. Thanks again! Barbara

      hudsonsailor54 thank you so much! I'm happy you enjoyed it. You made my day! Thank you! I see your name has "Hudson" in it. As in Hudson River by any chance? I grew up in a Hudson River town on the water and I actually spent all day yesterday fishing for stripe bass. When the forsythia start to bloom, it means the striper are running up the Hudson.

      Hi Lisa! I know exactly what you mean. When she started to emerge on the paper, I was filled with such peace. I felt she somehow was suppose to be created and be here. I felt like my hands were used as an instrument or took to get here where she needed to be. Everyone loves her and I receive so many comments that are faithful and incredibly spiritual. She has truly touched a part of our hearts and I’m positive I couldn’t have done that on my own. I hope she inspired you, as she inspired me. Thanks for your wonderful comment. I truly understand exactly what you meant. Thank you kindly!! You made me smile today!

    An absolutely mesmerising piece from start to finish; I was completely in the moment with you throughout! Having just recently bought a gelli, and paints, I have yet to start - but up until now I just thought of perhaps creating cards, wrapping paper or covering books with some of the results - however you've taken it to a whole new level; a much higher art form. Thank you for such inspiring work!

I was just thinking how much I liked that peach color when you began to cut circles and add more peach! She's in her Happy Place! It's totally her space where she is safe, happy and comforable in all ways. Really like your many ideas shared with your viewers. I love how your mind works and uour piece turned out just beautifully! Thank you for making my evening so enjoyable! Also wanted to say your angel and the piece as a whlole are very powerful. Your ideas and how you wanted the piece to turn out are successful - coming through loud and clear!
