  • This video provides an overview as to what is involved when replacing the electronic speed sensor plate in the 722.9 Mercedes gearbox, you will also see how much contamination is built up inside the gearbox and why we encourage you to service your gearbox on a regular basis 'every 30-40,000 miles'
    Torque setting below from MB WIS Document
    Bolt, soleoid valve to shift plate 8nm
    Bolt controller unit for fully integrated trans control to valve body 8nm
    Bolt valve body to trans housing 4nm + 90 degress 'personally i do these all equal hand tight using a standard size ratchet but its up to you'
    bolt heat shield to trans housing 9nm

    What was the customer complaint? I am curious on symptoms as I have an 08 Mercedes ML 320 CDI with occasional hard upshift/downshift. Seems to be random but plan on using SDS to scan for codes. I have seen most issues on 722.9 are result of Conductor plate (sometimes solenoids but not usually) and torque converter sometimes.

    very useful video. I have a problem with my 7G transmission where it shows in the scanner tool a fault in transmission speed sensor! would applying cleaning technique by degreaser for all sensors on the TCM help?

      there is a good chance the conductor plate will
      need replacing, how ever if you are on a budget and can carry out the work your
      self give it a good clean and give it a go, you may experience slightly harsh up
      and down shifts afterwards while everything try's to re adapt it self.

    Thank you for sharing this video . Great and helpful . Im having problem with same gearbox on my ml320 , that has hard shifting on gear 2to3 and 3to2 especially on lower speed , in very hard. When i accelerate it stars to dissappear . Can you please suggest me any solution . may be a good clean like you shared should resolve my problem? thank you

      There is a modified shift solenoid that you can replace for harsh gear change from 2-3rd get it booking in at a garage with a star diagnostics and they will be able to check for you to confirm if this is possible on yor vehicle.

      seleniod has to be purchased from the dealer but the correct one needs to be diagnosed :)

      yes, i would ask for a software update at the same time on your gearbox.

    Hello, if i buy a online programmed conductor plate (i have a TCM y3/8n4 fault) do i still need a xentry or star system to make it work ?
    Also do you recommend to change solenoids ?

      im not sure on that, I buy the part direct from dealer and does not come programmed as you can see in the video. maybe ask the person your buying it off if it still needs entry Scn coding for confirmation.

    Hi, I see that you used brake cleaner to clean all the valves. I was going to use electrical cleaner but the instructions say not yto use anything else the nATF and a magnet ? Is it safe? Im about to open my 2008 722.9 and clean the valve body/conductor plate, all i need is a new pan gasket and filter, everything else I can reuse if I find no fault correct ?

      yes that is correct, yes the MB instructions say not to use any cleaners other than fresh ATF fluid, i have used my method for 12 years and never had a problem, but the decision is up to you, just make sure all parts are dry before refitting.

    2007 s550....my issue started today after few minutes of driving, gassed up, than went to start car and gears wouldnt come out of park, engine light popped up, u0101 code. eventually went into gears and was drivable however some rough shifts. is this what the issue might be???

      its always a possibility how ever i would get your self booked into a good independent that has good diagnostic equipment that can troubleshoot your problem.

    Hello dears, I'm planning to change the y3/8n1 and n2 after a limp mode, diag give the p2768 witch says that the y3/8n2 is defective... my car is a w204 from 2012 with that 722.9 gearbox, should I recode the tcu or the gearbox after changing speed sensors please ?

      Hi there yes the speed plate should be SCN online programmed after it has been replaced with a genuine new product, if you are having your current one repaired at an ecu specialist then there will be no need for programming. :)

    Hello I have a question I am I send the conductor plate for repair 722.9 I am replacing it my self how much transmission fluid I need 6 quarts off fluid came out off the car. I also want to know if I could use a obd 2 scanner to reset the codes or which one I need. Thank you

      hi there, you will need to pump in 6.5 liters of fluid, get the gearbox upto 36-40 degree temperature and then drain fluid back out 'while engine ins running in park' until it reaches the level straw. As soon as it starts spitting put the drain plug back in.

    Hello, I have a question. My car is 1998 W202 C180 automatic transmission. When I start to drive the car the first and second gears don't change quickly. I should wait long for the changing of gears. After changing the gears it gets normal. I changed the oil because of it but the problem with gears weren't solved. What problem could it be?

      did you change the filter at the same time? i would get a specialist with star diagnostics to check the faults for you and check shift data.

    When changing out the valve body on the 722.9 does it have to be reprogrammed by Mercedes once installed either used or new?

      yes it has to be programmed online using a Xentry Mercedes machine, you cannot fit a used one as it will have a chassis number off it from the previous car and this will not allow your car to start if the vins don't match. there are some places that can make a used control unit virgin so you can be re coded online.

    I will also replace conductor plate, do i need an computer to learn the transmisson with the new Part?
    Should i replace the Valves? Or is the problem only about that plate?

      yes it will need a mercedes star machine, and online programming. must be done with someone who has a online star machine otherwise you will not be able to programme it to the vehicle.

    Does the 07 ML 63 need to be programmed on the conductor plate? and Ken like $1000 OBD reprogram it or introduce it to it

      Yes it will need to be programmed. We have done a more recent video on an SLk explains more in detail.

    Great video! I am having my conductor plate repaired right now by a specialist and wanted to clean the valve body while I wait. I like how you used the brake/parts cleaner to clean the outside of the valve body. Did you have to open the valve body and clean the inside for this vehicle?

      thank you for your kind comment, we didn't open the inside of the body, opening the inside is quite a big job with lots of tiny components and has to be done very carefully and isn't something i would recommend doing unless it is necessary. Hope this helps :)

    I have a '97 722.6 - USA model, that is slipping while shifting into 3rd gear.
    But when it's in 3rd it holds tight.
    So I am thinking if I could disconnect the pressure control solenoid than it would shift hard on full pressure and fixing my problem.
    Do you think this would work?
    And what is the easiest way to disconnect and what color wire should I cut or disconnect so I don't have to take the oil pan off?
    I am not that familiar with this transmission.

      i am not sure what wire you wold need to disconnect, We wouldn't recommend this as a repair :(

      i would get your car booked in with a specialist or dealer to have a star diagnostics carried out to be certain what the problem is and get a full diagnostics print out.
      But yes ABS sensors can cause gerbox limp mode.

    Hi i just watched your video..im currently working with a 2004 mercedez s500 5.0L with the 722.9...it has a torque converter lock up code which seems to be an electrical code..we have rebuilt the unit and replaced the tcc solenoid..after erasing the dtc it comes back..my question is in the video you have replaced the conductor board..is the tcu being replaced along with it and if so those it need to be reprogrammed also..my other question is ive repaired a similar setup in the nissans Re5r05a unit where its conductor plate and tcu are one piece and are made by the same manufactuer that makes the tcu and conductor plate along with the solenoids..ive opened them up and found broken tabs from the solenoid lead circuits that goes back to the tcu and solder them and they work fine my question is mainly can i detach the tcu from its conductor board and replace it with another conductor board or can their be a broken solenoid lead as i mentioned with the nissan units be repaired

      the ecu which is replaced in the video cannot be changed with one from another vehicle it has to be new and then coded via the SCN coding mercedes system. the other alternative is to have your current one reconditioned with a ecu repairing company.

    I have a 2008 Sprinter 2500, removing the valve body to have a peek at the conductor plate. The electrical connector will not come loose and I don’t want to break it. Any advice?

      I found what was holding it, there was a 7mm bolt in the middle of it that you can't see without a mirror and light. Kind of ridiculous. Thanks though! God bless!

    If you remove the valve body from the transmission for simply cleaning the solenoid screens and rpm sensors will there be error codes or reprogramming required after. Great video

      no you should be ok, shift quality might change slightly but it will adapt as you drive. :)

      If you have just cleaned everything no, but if you wish to carry out online Xentry programming then yes, this will have to be done via a dealer.

    Great video i have c300 w205 2015 with 40k miles on it i have a problem with the transmission when its is in gear one and two the car while moving and rpm is going up the rpm goes down a bit and the car shakes it feels like the car shifts but it didn’t and then the rpm comes back up and shift harsh it’s very noticeable when changine from gear 2 to 3 and downshift from 3 to 2 i can’t find any error codes and can’t fix the problem please advice me what to do , do i need to change the transmission fluid or what please help it’s destroying my car experience and i am in different country so please advice me i only had it for 4 months

      As a starting point with you having no fault codes i would have your gearbox fluid and filter replaced and see if this improves your shifting.

      Duke107 Full revision of the transmission, cooling fluid has leaked to the transmission, it was a mess.

      as in the connector where the wiring harness plugs into? yes it does move slightly and is very sensitive so handle with care when removing/refitting the valve body.

    Hi i was hoping for some advice i had my car in a mercedes specialist by the name of dronsfield in royton oldham the did a service A and a gear box oil change my car was faultless going in to theyre garage but since the day i picked it up the theres been an issue when put into drive it does like a thud then goes in to gear in reverse its worse it makes a loud thud then like a delay going in to gear any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

      @@sprautos hi iv took it back to them but they cant seem to put a finger what it is they said they have ran a full diagnostic check on it no fault or error has been detected they have said in might be torque converter or valve body or something along the lines but i dont understand i have read up on torque converter and non of the symptoms match its literally when you put it on reverse or drive but when its driving its fine no gear interchange problems runs smooth? They are waiting on a few opinions of different technichians so i have to wait till they contact i saw your video and thought to see if you can help with some advice or opinion thanks.

    I have a problem, change the SCN or TCM to my mercedes benz ML500 w166 trans, 722.9 and it is giving me some jerks down and up gear the mechanic tells me that it will be adapting since the part is new and not adapted handling and etc etc, is that true? I am afraid that it could cause something worse

      depends how bad the jerk is but sometimes yes driving the car for 1000 miles while it adapts and smooths out gear changes is required if still the same after that return to mechanic

    My local dealership quoted me $3500 to replace my valve body on 18' cla 250. Is it viable for me to replace myself or should I let the professionals handle this? For what it's worth, I am not a mechanic, but I have been in manual labor and know how to handle tools.

      You would need an online star diagnostics machine to be able to programme it to the car.

      We use brake cleaner and never had an issue as long as you leave the parts to dry. Mercedes say to use fresh ATF fluid to clean the parts with but its down to personal choice. Hope this helps :)

    Hi, I changed this part yesterday on my c63. My mechanic told me they programmed the module before hand and then installed it, after that he just cleared the codes several times and now it's gone. My question is, is that possible or he just bullshitting me?

      Hi Pedro, we programme the units when fitted to the vehicle via the OBD port with Mercedes diagnostic software using there online programming service.
      There is tools available that can read your information off you old unit and transfer to your new unit on the bench 'off the car' so yes this can be done but not something be personally do.
      Do you use a Brand new part?

    Dude I cannot get the valve body back up under the car to complete the job ...its like it's not aligning up and when it does the black thing by where the gear selector keeps blocking it

      make sure the gear slector peg lines up with the slide on the valve body as it can slide around when putting it back up, need a spotter really to make sure it goes up correctly.

      we changed the plate due to a faulty speed sensor, there are many different codes that can occur which will require the plate to be changed :)

      you must be able to program online and carry out SCN coding.

    Hello, do I need to do matching learning after replacing the valve body computer board in my car? The problem I have now is that it is very difficult to change gears after switching the computer board. Do you know what the problem is? There is also no fault code for the gearbox.

      the part number will depend on weather you go for a new unit or a reconditioned unit.
      reconditioned part number is A000 270 26 00 / 80
      this should be checked with your chassis number with Mercedes.

    Old oil was green. You put new oil it was red???

      when the fluid is burnt and worn it turns gree/brown colour fresh oil is red
