    Hi, what did you do with the sensor cable on the new pad? Just cut that off?

    • @RoCDIY
      @RoCDIY  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Some cars will still have the clip to hook it in to, so you can just clip it in or cut it off. I cut it off. Cutting it off will not have any impact on anything.

    Hi, you don't need to use threadlock for the bolts on the front caliper ?

    • @RoCDIY
      @RoCDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      In general, thread lock is not required because proper torque would secure them in place, but you can use it, if you like. Use blue threadlock. It is odd that VW would use threadlock on the rear calipers, but not on the front.

      @MrTheGras ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RoCDIY I did it today, and did not use the threadlock on the front ones, it seemed as though the flat surface of the bolt that you could see in the middle section had some black paint on it that wore off when I took them out. Not sure if it was meant to act as a locker or just as a seal to know if it's been tampered with.
      Nevertheless, your 2 clips for rear+front were mint, they helped me a lot.

    does this model have front pad sensors?

    • @RoCDIY
      @RoCDIY  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This model doesn't. Only the SEL Sport has it.

    You don't have to bleed the brake line ?

    • @RoCDIY
      @RoCDIY  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, there would be no reason to bleed the brake lines, unless there was pre-existing excessive brake pedal travel. Changing brake pads should not involve the bleeder valve being opened.

    Where is brake sensor wire on these brakes?

    • @RoCDIY
      @RoCDIY  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You will not have it unless you have an SEL Sport model. The sensor cable is always on the front of car. If you have a sensor it will be on an inside brake pad. Some brake pads are sold with sensor cable, but cannot be used.

    • @Thabzalzk
      @Thabzalzk 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I guess this one has it because it s informing me that brake pads are worn out on the dash. It s a 2011 model

      @@Thabzalzk Do you have a warning light or a message telling you to replace brake pads? A warning light can be for low brake fluid, ABS failure, brake light out. If it's a message, then the sensor cable would be on the driver's side front, inside brake pad. Both front sides may have a mount for the cable connector, but the passenger's side will not have a cable connector coming from the car.

    Guess who forgot protective caps after lowering the jack and had to reach around their tire just to make sure they go back in?

    Warning light

    • @RoCDIY
      @RoCDIY  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I did some research and unless your 2011 model had an upgrade there are no warning lights for the brake pads.
      Directly from the manual: "Brake Pad Wear Indicators- The front and rear disc brakes on all models have audible brake wear indicators.
      If the brake pads need replacing, you will hear a distinctive, metallic screeching sound when you apply the brake pedal."
      What does the warning light look like? I believe the warning light you're seeing is for something else.

      @RoCDIY yellow circle light with three dashes --- on both sides

      @@Thabzalzk I have to apologize. I was answering questions about a 2008 Honda CRV and the 2017 VW Jetta at the same time and mixed up information. Sorry for the confusion.
      The correct answer for your car is that it does have a brake pad wear sensor indicator (yellow circle w/ three dashes). I don't have the 2017 VW Jetta anymore, but in the video @ 1:20 you will see the little metal fork (between brake fluid cable and brake disc) where the cable from the inside brake pad and the cable from the car connect. The car in this video doesn't have either, even though the replacement pads came with the sensor cable. Also, @ 8:08 there is further explanation of the wear sensor cable.
