I'd say my top 3 are:
Powerslave - Iron Maiden
Leviathan - Mastodon
Don't Break the Oath - Mercyful Fate
As for more recent ones i'd put Trivium's "In the Court of the Dragon" and Avenged Sevenfold's "The Stage"
Came here to say leviathan
Acid Bath - When the Kite String pops haha
I get the feeling you like Acid Bath
@@haydenschmid760 maybe
@@haydenschmid760 I get a feeling you like Death
@@TheKillingGame01 maybe
I love the classics but man bell witches “mirror reaper” is the most hauntingly beautiful cover I’ve ever seen.
Same for anything by that same artist, the cover for cairn by mizmor or for stygian by Atramentus are also amazing album covers
Just remembering that song got me a bit emotional
@@nicolasreny221 Cairn is so fucking good. One of my faves. Obituary just used his artwork for their new album as well.
Rip Mariusz Lewandowski, he made such good art. Stygian might be my favourite album cover
Definitely an great one, always come back to that album just as much to look at the cover as to actually listen haha
Somwhere in time by maiden is probably one of the best. The colors the atmosphere and the general feel to it are just great. No one will ever draw cool shit like Derek did back in the days.
That’s MY Personal FAVE!!!!!!\M/
Maiden is the band with the most cool album covers…Somewhere In Time, Killers, and Number Of The Beast
Revolver by the Beatles gets me every time. The Voorman art is just perfect in capturing where they were at the time.
It doesn't get more iconic than the Iron Maiden Powerslave cover
If we’re talking about most iconic and Maiden in the same sentence, it has to be either Killers or Number Of The Beast
1. Baroness- Blue record
2. Iron Maiden- Fear of the dark
3. Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath
4. Mechanical animals- Marilyn Manson
5. Fly by night- Rush
i'd say symbolic by death. before i got into the band, the album cover was so strange to me, i couldnt understand what it was trying to convey, and ironically that encapsulated the entire album for me. to date its the only album ive ever had to listen to twice back to back, easily one of the best covers and albums of all time. RIP Chuck
Rip chuck
I love being able to stream everything and anything whenever I want
But I gotta admit. I really miss going to a store and buying a CD - and opening it and looking at the packaging and actually sitting down and listening to an entire album for the first time while drawing or playing video games or something.
There really was something magical about being a teenager and saving money to buy CDs - and looking at reviews in AP and what not and blindly buying an album based on description
I found Converge and a bunch of other amazing bands that way back in the 00s
Screaming for Vengeance. For more current bands, the Deftones have some really cool ones.
To me, the greatest album cover of all-time will always be:
The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd
It's 49 years old it's still seen EVERYWHERE. It'll probably still be everywhere in 2073, a full 100 years after its release.
My first album purchase as a teen-aged boy was the Cars - Candy-O...for obvious reasons.
The Sound Of Perseverance is the best album cover.
The Black Dahlia Murder - Abysmal is definitely one of the best in the last 10 years.
Too many to count but I would say
1. Lateralus
2. Painkiller
3. And Justice for all
4. Black Sabbath (album)
5. 1984 Van Halen
Oh also moving pictures by rush
And pretty much every Iron Maiden album
Typical 40/ 50 year old dad list
@@screwstonTXmeskin713 funny because I’m not even 20
I'd have to go with Andrew WK - I Get Wet. I've never seen an album of that quality with a cover that looks so exactly like how it sounds
Great southern trendkill - cover has a special spot in my heart. I remember first time I saw it.
Same.
Reign in blood, south of heaven, Christ illusion, number of the beast, power slave, slipknot self titled and Transilvanian hunger
Number of the beast really started all that Style of album covers, but i love Indestructible and Dirt! I also cant believe no one mentioned tools 10,000 days too!
Godflesh - Streetcleaner
Cover of Death Magnetic by Metallica always amazed me
Peace sells and Symbolic are great. But for me, Slipknots first album. Just seeing all of the members there with their masks and stuff. Just freaking creepy. So creepy.
King crimson had an awfully wild looking album cover as well as all of the album covers for the early Yes albums
Yes, "Fatal Portrait" is particularly striking.
@@llongone2 He said King Crimson not King Diamond.
I think King Diamond's Fatal Portrait is one of the coolest covers.
I find it very bizarre that throughout this clip, there is real nudity, zombies cutting up babies, mutilated babies on hooks, a zombie going down on a naked corpse, and the thing that gets censored is the musicians saying "fuck" and "shit". I'm pretty sure the least offensive thing at this point would be the language.
So true
For me the best album cover of all time is Somewhere in Time by Iron Maiden.
I mean this album cover HAS IT ALL! I'm shocked that nobody picked that cover!
Well, that made my day!
Music for the Jilted Generation by The Prodigy deserves a shout.
Agreed with the Dan Seagraves mention, as well as with all the Maidens and Cannibals, of course.
The Sound Of Perseverance by Death and Frozen In Time by Obituary came to my mind first. Of course there's billion other great, eye-catching album covers out there!
Dillinger escape plan - calculating Infinity
Cuz it’s just some tubes… and that’s really all the album is too…. Tubes and psycho shit.
Metal health - quiet riot
Iron maiden - iron maiden
Kill em all - Metallica
Dr. Feelgood - motley crue
Far beyond driven - pantera
The world needs a hero - megadeth
For me it's the following:
- Melissa by Merciful Fate
- Somewhere in Time by Iron Maiden
- Defenders of the Faith by Judas Priest
- All Baroness albums except for First & Second.
I like the cover of Opeth - Ghost Reveries. Very ominous and spooky.
For me the best album cover is pantera far beyond driven the original version
For me personally:
Forging a Future Self by After the Burial
Sounding the Seventh Trumpet by Avenged Sevenfold
Mr. Bungle by Mr. Bungle
Diamond Eyes by Deftones
There’s this pretty small death metal solo artist named Ayakasi Kagura. He has some fucking sick album covers. Highly recommend taking a look.
other than that, I would go for
In the Court of the Dragon - Trivium
Rust in Peace - Megadeth
The Valley - Whitechapel
Violence Unimagined - Cannibal Corpse
Reign in Blood - Slayer
Comic book artist Vince Locke drew those Cannibal Corpse album covers. He's amazing.
I love Monuments The Amanuensis album. The hands drawing a story is fucmkng cool
THE GREAT SOUTHERN TRENDKILL! thank you
Some of my favorite death metal album covers are Death - Sound of Perseverance, Cannibal Corpse - Butchered At Birth, Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten, Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness, Deicide - Once Upon the Cross, Obituary - Cause of Death, and Cattle Decapitation - Death Atlas.
One pick one.
I’m surprised nobody said anything about Thy Art is Murder, Heaven Shall Burn, Soulfly, Incantation, Despised Icon or literally any other band who has an album cover done by Eliran Kantor. His art is fucking beautiful.
Youthanasia by Megadeth has a beautiful album cover. I remember being mesmerized by it when it came out.
Exhumed's Anatomy Is Destiny has always been very eye catching to me
Mercyful Fates "Melissa"
It's gotta be one of the classic Kiss ones. Probably Rock And Roll Over, but I love the Love Gun cover as well.
The Great Southern Trendkill is a really iconic album cover as well, with that blacktongued rattle snake.
I really love the album cover of Lateralus by TOOL
was gonna say this
Ed Repka artwork is some of my favorites
How did nobody mention Somewhere In Time??
Ed Repka's death metal covers like Massacre "From Beyond", Atheist "Peice of Time" and Death "Scream Bloody Gore", etc. Chris Moyen and Dan Seagrave too.
I can only think of one, album cover, Rainbow, Rainbow Risning. That album cover, is really something else.
Bolt Thrower - The IVth Crusade
Shit Bolt Thrower album covers in general really😅
Bloody kisses - Type O Negative🖤💚
One of favorite ones it's Ashes of The Wake by Lamb of God, White Pony by Deftones, Sinner by Drowning pool. 🤘
The Beatles had some memorable covers. Iconic.
The White Album 🤣
@@foamrob6577 how much more white could it be? The answer is none, none more white 😂
@@runningsuperska Good Spinal Tap reference
My all time favorite is Pantera vulgar display of power 2nd would be Obituary cause of death.I remember when you had to go to a privately owned music store to get the cannibal corpse uncensored version of the cover art and fold out lyrics. If you got butchered at birth at a chain store the cover would be white and say censored version with no fold out just a blank insert.
Don’t break the oath!!! So cool. 🤘
Lateralus, Aenima, Undertow Tool and Violent by Meshuggah. Hard to pick one folks.
I just looked up that Meshuggah album…yeah that’s pretty amazing
RIP Trevor
Opeth - Still Life
Iron Maiden - Powerslave
Mastodon - Crack The Skye
Ulver - Nattens Magridal
Dissection - Storm of the Lights Bane
In Flames - Whoracle
Kyuss - Welcome to Sky Valley
Tool - 10,000 Days
Dark Tranquillity - The Gallery
Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane
Dream Theater - Awake
Rivers of Nihil - Where Owls Know My Name
Any Circa Survive album cover. Esao Andrews is a true original.
My top 5 in no order:
-...And Justice For All
-A Vulgar Display of Power
-Slipknot
-Dark Side of the Moon
-Chocolate Starfish and the Hotdog Flavored Water
Faith No More - Angel Dust
7:45 this is amazing
Queen 2 is so iconic
All Cirith Ungol's Elric album covers by Michael Whelan as well.
Celtic Frost’s To Mega Therion…you know you’ve hit a home run when HR Giger’s art is your album cover
Aja (Steely Dan) for me. Also the Thick As A Brick cover is entertaining.
municipal waste have always had my heart album artwork wise , outside of that suicidal tendencies prime cuts
I've always loved the life is peachy cover
i would pick Dark Saga by Iced Earth because that spawn cover encapsulated the whole record perfectly
I agree with justin whang on butchered at birth. i walked into a local true value wearing a butchered at Birth long sleeve and the store owner looked right down on my shirt and stared at it while I was walking in like oh god that's morbid. It put a smile across my face like yeah it's pretty brutal.
Cannibal Corpse.. Really? Those guys should grow up. That was "cool" when you where 12 years old.
Evil Empire - RATM
A Blaze in the Northern Sky - Darkthrone
Leviathan - Mastodn
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
It's very hard to chose great album cover art considering how much the music moulds how you see it. I think the only way to have an unbiased opinion is to judge album art of albums you haven't heard.
In the nightside eclipse, Tales from the thousand lakes, Storm of lights bane
Primus has a lot of weird ones but still cool, Tool same thing, Children Of Bodom would defs be another to mention for album art, lastly to mention (before this becomes a novel) all of Sabatons album art
Screaming for Vengeance by Priest, really futuristic
I bought a Molly Hatchet album based on the album cover alone. I love Frazetta's art. BIG FUCKING MISTAKE LOL~
For me it's hard to choose the greatest metal album covers but here my favorite lists. 👇🤘🔥💯
Death Scream Bloody Gore, Leprosy, Spiritual Healing.
Black Sabbath Self Titled.
Nirvana Nevermind.
Cannibal Corpse Butchered at Birth & Tomb of Mutilated.
Pantera Vulgar Display of Power.
Iron Maiden Self Titled & Killers.
Rainbow - RISING. Just gorgeous.
For me:
Molly Hatchet- Molly Hatchet (and really all albums that use Frank Frazetta art)
Herb Alpert- Whipped Cream and Other Delights
Funkadelic- Maggot Brain
Frank Zappa- Over-nite Sensation
Emerson, Lake & Palmer- Karn Evil 9
Tossed up between number of the beast, somewhere in time for me
Lmfao whang is absolutely right about the butchered at birth shirt over the years I’ve already been threw 2 of those shirts and waiting for my third to come from Amazon , but it’s always a shirt I look for in every head shop / store with band merch I go to lmfao
Kreator- Pleasure to Kill
That is an amazing album cover…I’ve seen people tattoo Pleasure To Kill
"Peace Sells" by Megadeth and "Angel Dust" by Faith No More were two that popped into my head immediately
I love the Alexisonfire self titled album cover
Not necessarily my favorite but led Zeppelin 4 the man with the bundle of sticks on his back and the way he looks at you just always made me think why then I saw there were many paintings similar to that and I'm still not sure why I'm guessing it has to do with work
Dismember like an ever flowing stream
Meshuggah „Catch 33“, for me waaaaaay beyond everything else
It really makes me sad that no one mentioned obZen by Meshuggah. That shit is just masterpiece.
Jane's Addiction - Nothing's Shocking (HA! Agreement at 5-minute mark!)
Leprosy by Death is my favorite
Blind guardian-Imaginations from the other side ,bar none.....🤘🤘🤘
I’m surprised..that no one mentioned PusHead ..who had a hand in the earlier Metallica..design s ..??
#1 has got to be King Crimson’s “Court of the Crimson King”. Throbbing Gristle’s “20 Jazz Funk Greats” (it’s all the subliminal stuff). Storm Corrosion’s “Storm Corrosion”. Iron Maiden’s “Seventh Son”. Cannibal Corpse “butchered at birth” for sure. All Mizmor covers. “Proscription’s “Conduit”. Blood Incantation “hidden history of the human race”.I definitely second bell witch’s “mirror reaper”. Ghost’s “eponymous”. Deus Mortem’s “the fiery blood”. All Baroness covers. Mono’s “requiem for hell”. All Alcest covers (but it’s more for personal reasons). I haven’t even started yet.. lol
Rudimentary Peni. Nick Blinko is badass!
Nocturnus- The Key (1990)
My favorite album cover.
Type O Negative - Bloody Kisses!
Prefix for death by necro is pretty cool
I really like Exodus' Bonded by Blood album cover
