  • SVRO had 3 manual foot pumps when we bought her. Two in the galley (one salt and one fresh) and one in the head. We rebuilt two of the pumps, but the third one was cracked so we had to replace it with a new one. We still haven't plumbed the salt water pump in the galley because we're not in salt water and don't want to accidentally pump delta water into the sink. So for now, just the two fresh water pumps are installed.

    I’m really liking the channel. I hope you keep making videos. Excellent content. Curious if you feel that the two take offs from the pump might chafe due to vibration over time?

      Hey Scott thanks for watching, and thanks for the props on content. We try not to sugar-coat it with bikinis and pretty sunsets. Your comment actually caused me to go in the head and check; and excellent observation. The hoses sill look to be in great shape and chafe-free. The hole the hoses run through is a little snug, but she's a heavily laid-up boat and doesn't flex too much under sail. Definitely not a bad idea though for sailors to occasionally check all those hoses and fittings buried up out of view. Especially through-hull fittings and valves. Thanks again.

    Hello - very nice boat you have! i'm currently refitting an old colin archer from denmark, and wondered if you could link some of the fittings you've used as well as the foot pump?

      Hi Nicholas - We typically don't include links because they always seem to change and then we get a bunch of comments about dead links. That said, our pumps are Whale brand and here's a link to Practical Sailor which reviewed several different brands.

      The pumps we have came with our boat. If we had to buy foot pumps we may have used something different. But since they worked fine we didn't want to change them.
      Thanks for watching and good luck with your refit!

    Just discovered your channel. Great videos! Question: What do you call the "T" fittings you used and who makes them?

      Hey Ron, all the fittings I used on the PEX plastic plumbing pipe are made by Sharkbite, and you can get them at the big-box hardware stores or on Amazon.

    Do you have a way to filter the water for the foot pumps so it is safe for drinking? Our dual action whale foot pumps get stuck trying to use Seagull General Ecology Nature pure filters.

    • @svrambleon
      @svrambleon  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No we don't. We filter the water before it goes into the tanks, but we only drink from our Acuva faucet which filters and purifies (UV) the water.

      @@svrambleon Thank you for your quick reply. So your Acuva filter is specifically for your pressurized line?

    • @svrambleon
      @svrambleon  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, it only runs off the pressure pump.

    when you release the pedal the water continues to come out?… Did I see that correctly

    • @svrambleon
      @svrambleon  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, it's a dual stroke. Water comes out when it's pushed and released.

    I'm new to sailboats. Why do you install fresh water pumps when you already have a fresh water faucet?

    • @svrambleon
      @svrambleon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Rory - The fresh water pumps are manual, so they require no electricity. While we're at the dock we are connected to a well pump, but while away from the dock, we have a pump for all the faucets. The manual foot pumps give us flexibility on how much electricty we use and save wear and tear on the pump. Our boat came with the foot pumps and I actually didn't think we would use them as much as we do. But they are really handy to have.
