I am certainly pleased with the Hebridean. It even works well down wind in fairly light wind. Adjust the bungee to match the wind. It is of course essential to get the boat balanced before engaging it. make sure servo rudder is near vertical before engaging. I am still finding the best settings which obviously vary from boat to boat.
Paul Harrison So far I am really happy with it. it works pretty well in light conditions which is good. Adjusting the tension of the bungee in light wind helps. it is essential to get the boat balanced for best performance.
I thought I saw a speech bubble from the woman. She said this makes him happy? I'll just tap my feet and let him go. How has it held up? Thank you Mike
Hi, we have used it in around 20knots a few times, and it works well. All wind vanes work better with more wind as there is more power available to move the rudder. It is important however to have the sails properly adjusted for the conditions,
+Paul Holborn Hi Paul, to be honest this year has been a disaster for sailing, with having to go to Manilla for 2 weeks blowing a month, week after week not being able to sail due to extrrnal constraints. However the Hebridean is working well, and I am better ways of setting it up, and fine tuning. It works pretty well in the fairly limited time I have had to play with it. The Sabre is a steady boat and therevis no lack of control, it is all about setting the sails and vane to work together, and that is the fun bit. I did have to cut away the top pushpit rail and have a removable one as the vane counterweight kept clunking it. I put a lower permanent rail lower down to hold the uprights at the correct angle so the removable part will just drop in. No pictures yet, maybe next weekend.
+Paul Holborn Hi to be fair we have not been sailing as much as we would have wished for this year due to all sorts of reasons. What we have done has not caused any problems with the wind vane.

Your videos certainly helped me with building my 'Hebridean', many thanks.
Krupnek glad to have been of use
Thanks for posting the videos. How has the Hebridean been performing? Any criticisms?

Hi, we sold the boat 2 years later, the Hebridean was functioning perfectly with no breakages etc. One was used sailing from UK to New Zealand safely.
Considering this wind vane. I see it holds a very straight course as shown in the wake. How is it in a heavy winds, say 20 to 30 knots?

Just brought a Sabre & looking at a hebridean for her, I wonder how after a few months use yours is holding up?

I'll look forward to reading more & hearing more about your exploits :)
