For one, you’ve got another barrel over a single shot, pump, or semi auto. Then you have the receiver and hinge mechanism that requires precise machine work.
It's mostly a supply and demand type thing from what I have gathered. Modern machining tools and processes would make these much cheaper if they were the most sought-after type of shotgun. Look at ammo .410, 20 bore and 28 bore are more expensive than 12 even though they require less material to make.
I really appreciate you reviewing the economy choices in over/unders. I'm in the market to get something that would make a good field gun rather than take out my Clays guns. Nothing hurts my soul more than destroying a beautiful O/U for lack of a more suitable choice. Thanks again.
I have a 20 gauge Pointer and it's a great pheasant gun. I actually paid $429. BTW, I put a 1/2" spacer in mine because the 14" LOP was much too short for me, as well.
I own this shot gun and bought it at $449 at my local gun shop. I got it in 20 guage youth. It fits me very well. I'm 5"3'. I don't hunt but I use this shot gun for clay shooting and first time out I got 18/25. I've shot about 300 to 400 rounds through it. I was working on a budget and it's a beautiful shot gun. Super happy with it.
Would love to see you shoot a pattern board at 16 to 20 yards so we can see how well regulated the barrels are OR are not... Thank you, Great video.....
I've owned a Pointer Acrius 20 gauge for a few years, probably shot at least 1,000 rounds through it. I've had no issues and the break action is not loose like the gun you reviewed. My buddy bought an Acrius 28 gauge and so far he loves it. Great O/U choice for the money for sure. I have to update my comment, my friend's 28 gauge had trigger issues at the trap range this week, under barrel would fire but over barrel would not fire. He took it apart and found wood particles and metal shavings in the trigger group, we cleaned and lubed it and it was fine for a few shots and it failed again. He took it home and did a deeper dive, he believes he has it fixed, we'll find out this week.
The only problem with the Yildiz is it's only available through Academy Sports and there are none in my state so I can't even take a look at one, which is a shame because the sporting model looks great.
Used to do marketing for these shotguns, I can attest the over unders aren't fancy. They are very well built and reliable. Would highly recommend stepping up to a cerakoted model for the extra protection.
I put over 500 rounds thru my 20 Gauge Over and Under and it seems to work Okay! But, my nephew has No Problem shooting Trap with it for a reasonable priced shotgun!
I have had a 20ga Pointer Acrius for a few years. Over 1,000 rds through it with no issues. Works great, looks nice enough that I actually get compliments every once in awhile at the clay course I go to, included 5 chokes, and I paid $300 for it because it has a small chip at the butt end of the stock you can’t hardly see. I prefer shooting 12ga though, so my wife thinks it’s hers now. 😂 Anyway, great budget friendly, entry level o/u.
Would love to see a review on the charles daley triple barrel in 12g in the 28 inch barrel i just bought one for the upcoming duck season and fell in love the moment i put it in my hands after trying every shotgun i could get my hands on it was by the best fitting for me and loved every part of it. Been called crazy by every guy i hunt with but would love to see someone as experienced as u give some feedback on this gun. I did put a limbsaver recoil bad on to help with felt recoil and definitely did help
I have a pointer in 20ga it shoots very well, taken several quail with it, my is a little tight on break down but seems to be loosening up a little, it fits fairly well 14 3/8" pull mine on weight is 6.5lb. Thank you for your reviews I enjoy them very much.
As a Lefty, it Sure would be nice if You could Comment on the "Cast". Let Us know if They are Severly Cast-Off, Slightly Cast-Off or Nuteral. Please & Thank You...
I bought a Tri-Star Setter LT O/U in 12ga. I have run that shotgun for the last four years, hunting grouse and rabbits. I have had no issues with my cheap, turkish made shotgun. It gets me out to the field and I won't feel bad when I mark it up. I have a CZ Bobwhite G2 in 12ga. Again, I love that cheap, turkish made shotgun. You can spend as much money as you want on a field gun and it won't make you any better. I will spend good money a shotgun one day, just not anytime soon. Don't feel like you have to keep up with that one hunting buddy you have, the one that always has the nicest gun but can't hit shit with it. Don't be that guy.
please please please do a yildiz I used to have one and honestly was the best i have ever shot a gun but i want to get your pov before I break down and get one again
Of the reviews that I've read and watched regarding budget o/u shotguns a common complaint is that the guns are often too tight. Of course a break in period is mentioned but this one seems good to go?
My Acrius 20ga in nickel finish is on order. Will have it by week's end. I'm looking to be the oldest rookie sporting clay shooter (75 and counting) lol I've enjoyed a lifetime of pistol shooting and wanted something that wouldn't break the budget, looked nice and was suited to the new hobby. O/U seemed the perfect option but I couldn't justify spending mega bucks for one. The Pointer line fits the bill.
Just picked it up this morning - cleaned and greased the action and happily the fit is quite tight The nickel receiver and engraving look great as does the walnut furniture. IMHO much better than the economical price might suggest. Mine was $487 out the door at my local gun emporium. Will spend some time while watching TV opening and closing the action to help bed the well greased mating surfaces.
Experienced a few loading jams at the trap range during first 20 shots of factory ammo. 3 separate shells caught on the rim of the brass preventing closure requiring prying them out of the chamber. I dunno, perhaps there's a burr?
You should give the GForce O/U Filthy Pheasant a review . I have three now, I don't think I give over $385.00. The 410 has the best pattern of the three
@@leonardwilson980 it’s fine - I live in an area where people aren’t too knowledgeable about fit for shotguns so I’m just winging it on whether my wife and I have the right fit guns lololol
You should do a Yildiz sporting HPS 30” barrel. Under $800. Would really like to see what you think of one before I buy. Oh you have to get them from Academy Sports.
How about a Webley and Scott Pro comp or the SKB 790. You mentioned Carlson tubes that is a problem with some cheaper shotguns they dont make tubes for them. thanks for the info
Question: the pointer acrius for $381 or stoeger condor for $327? I'm a big fan of buying quality but don't know how much I'll get into it with an o/u.
Love what you’re doing with budget guns. Gets more people into the sport
It blows my mind that over under are so expensive when they are mechanically so simple
For one, you’ve got another barrel over a single shot, pump, or semi auto. Then you have the receiver and hinge mechanism that requires precise machine work.
@@chevyon37s yea, I don't think people realize exactly how precise the machining on the action has to be for a good lock-up with no hinge slop
Part of it is a demand thing. You can get them cheaper somewhere like England where that's the most common action type.

Did something happen on the Stoeger video that got the comments killed? I was curious what folks had to say on that one.

I really do like Turkish shotguns : pump action, semi auto, and over -under ! they're good value for the price.
Should do a review on the yildiz over under, there $499-$799 and come with extractors
Do you mean ejectors? Not trying to correct you, asking a genuine question.
can you still get a yildiz?
The only problem with the Yildiz is it's only available through Academy Sports and there are none in my state so I can't even take a look at one, which is a shame because the sporting model looks great.
@@al_rebel_7021I understand your question and according to their web site it has ejectors.
@@bb5242 they keep them in stock at my academy in Mississippi, I got mine with the steel receiver for $560
How does it compare to the Stoeger Condor? Which is about the same price
