    The beauty of Italian cuisine and recipes is its diversity. There’s no right or wrong, just personal preference and taste. Viva la cucina Italiana! Ciao da Canada! 🇮🇹🇨🇦

    My Nonna used Crisco if she didn't render her own lard . Now I use Crisco for everything, from my savory dishes to my pies, tarts, my cake icing, everything, but I'd like to start rendering my own too. ...... Crisco is the best other than homemade. This looks amazing. I'm going to follow your recipe and make sauce soon....I make my own, I have a large amount in the freezer, but sometimes you just wanna try someone elses. Grazie !

    Love this! Grew up in an all Italian family and this is very close to our sauce and meatball recipe. We use pork instead of lamb and my mom always made bracioles with scrambled eggs and pepperoni in the middle but she didn't put them in the sauce! I am going to have to try them this way. Our roots originate from Campobasso. Love hearing Grandma's stories and we never called it gravy either! Thanks for sharing!

    Thank you for sharing your family recipe. Your MIL and Grandma are so lovely. I found this video today because I had a pot of sauce and meatballs on because I had some leftover meatballs in the freezer I needed to use up. I was wondering if I could make my sauce more authentic, and I have to say, many of the techniques and ingredients you shared I already do. I tend to like my sauce a bit thicker so I use sauce in the can, but next time I make it, I'm going to try the whole peeled tomatoes and throw them in the Ninja.
    I haven't made braciole in years and I kind of miss it. I'm also going to throw braciole in the pot next time as well. I remember my MIL at the time, taught me to use a bit of stuffing and hard boiled egg inside the braciole. It really was delicious.
    I've been making Italian sauce & meatballs for over 34 years now (since I was 20.) My Italian sister-in- law (ex SIL now) taught me how to make pasta sauce and meatballs I've added my own spin over the years. I'm not Italian only married into an Italian family, but man, I love Italian dishes and love learning to cook them as authentic as possible.

    I have been trying to find my step grandma Josephine Infarinato's sauce recipie. When I was only 8 or 10 when she used to cook for us, then we moved after the divorce and my mom could not remember her recipie. I remember at her Sunday dinners there was a big dish of sauce served over rigatoni and a seperate dish of meats and giant meatballs. This sounds so close to what I remember. I looked on census records from the 40's to find where she immigrated from but all it said was italy. I will try it and let you know.thank you

    I love your video it's so informative but I am curious about why are you using Publix tomato products which is a store bought brand and not the San Marzano Tomatoes which is preferred as the best. You do make a point about using only the best Locatelli Pecorino Romano cheese. That's why I'm confused if you are going with the best don't use Publix store brand which is not the best.

    I am Italian and Observed that it’s not authentic. spaghetti does not have protein. Secondly I do not know which part of Italy the recipe was from as I hail from Umbria which is the middle maybe the recipe was tweaked along your downline but I mean no offence it became a little americanise along the way .We also cook polpette without onion. And just finished it with salsa. The salsa was too watery and too much added. I also have not heard in history that vegetable shortening was used for this recipe. Italian cuisine is always simple, minimum effort maximum effect. Come back to Italy and trace back the lost roots of your bis Nonna . Complimenti 🙏🏼Comunque.

    • @lemonarizonatea
      @lemonarizonatea 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Canning has been around for about 200 years. While canning back then was done in an effort to find a reliable form of preservation, it now saves us the time of boiling and peeling all the tomatoes, and making tomato paste. If you want to do those things to make the sauce, go ahead, my dude. You could even go through the process of rendering your own lard, which has a similar fat content to shortening and try to use that instead of Crisco if that’s too “modern” and inaccurate for you as well.
      This recipe can still be 200 years old and accurate with canned tomatoes.
