      Sorry Tom, I was only joking. You might find things like that around but it would take more than a different magazine to actually chamber and fire them, they'd need to be a fully converted replica. (.17 fired down a .30, .45 or .50 barrel is like throwing a banana down a bowling alley...even with some sort of sabot)

      They should make an adapter that fits inside for .22 Short, and an adapter that fits inside that adapter for 6mm Flobert.

    I've always wanted a .22 trainer but don't care for single shot ones. This is a fantastic buy!

    So I had a sudden sense of dread on the first shot, as it sounded nearly like a hangfire from some of the other rifles you've shot (with the older ammo) and then realized that it was just that quiet upon seeing the target. I'm rather impressed at how quiet it is.

      Yeah, the round hitting the paper sounds louder than the gun firing.

    Interesting how it was so quiet that the Chap didn't even find it necessary to put those earplugs in. Can't say I'm that surprised, though, it sounds like it's suppressed almost.

    I fired lots of rounds as a Canadian army cadet with Lee Enfield No.7 rifles, but we did not have a detachable magazine on ours, each round had to be fed manually by hand.

    I used to work on these when I was in the Canadian army as a 421. A friend still has some parts for these. Some of the bores tended to ring forward of the breech. Overall a great 22.

    Lovely rifles! I have (and had) a near complete Lee Enfield .22 trainer collection, with .22 Pattern 14 Short Rifle No1, .22 Pattern 14 Short Rifle No2, No2 Mk IV and IV* (British, Indian and Australian), Short Naval .22 trainer, Long Lee Enfield conversion by Parker, No7, No8, No9, C No7 (SUPERB!) as well as the War Office Miniatures and the 297/230 and 310 Martini Cadet rifles. Love 'em!
    I also had a very extensive German .22 training rifle collection, but that is another story best told over Schnapps and bratwurst :)

    This is one of my dream guns as well. I have been a fan of the Enfield since I purchased a No1 Mk4 back when I was in the Police Academy in 1986. But the only one I've been able to locate here in the Colonies is way outside my price range. I love the old 22lr training rifles. And I currently have a Mossberg 46MB. Thank you for introducing me to this particular rifle.

  • @piobmhor8529
    @piobmhor8529 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice! The No. 7’s that we shot in Cadets didn’t have a 5 round magazine, just a No. 4 magazine with the spring removed and acted as a catch pan for the spent casings. The rounds were loaded individually by hand into the chamber and you closed the bold, fired, opened the bolt and the spent casing dropped. When finished, you removed the magazine and dumped out the brass. They sure were fun to shoot.

    • @BlokeontheRange

      Those will likely have been No.9's then - did they have a full-length bolt or a shortened one like on my rifle there?

  • @InfernoNinja111

    Awesome. I fired something similar in air-cadets (raf), but it was only single shot, and very front heavy for a 13 year old (even from prone).Haven't shot since then, but watching this has brought back that smell. Thanks.

      @spankeyfish 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @asdeaff

      Shot something similar as a 14 year old air cadet at RAF lyneham in the seventies.
      During the rest of that summer camp I progressed onto the 303 & got my air cadet marksman badge
      I was surprised that I could shoot that straight to be honest, as the rifle was bloomin heavy for a nipper
      The 3 best shots moved onto the L1A1 into an attempt at the RAF marksman badge.
      Our weapons instructor had a nice little cache to hand, including large auto pistols & the odd sterling SMG !

    I've actually got a chance to shoot an Indian .303 to .22 lr conversion rifle.the extractor wasn't working on some of them, had no mag,and we (a group students{ncc}) had to handfeed it.maybe it was a lee en-field converted into .22.
    The funny thing is I was the one to get the defective extractor one, short the first round and kept cycling the bolt back and forth hoping the case would eject while everyone finished firing .I had to ask the supervisor for a solution... he suggested "extract it with your finger". I was still able to get into next round of competition.

  • @terencemcmanus4597
    @terencemcmanus4597 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    Brings back memories! The air cadet corps at my school had one in the armory - along with a mixed bag of single shot rifles. Unfortunately only senior boys were allowed to use the magazine. AFAICR I only ever got to use it loading one round at a time,
    BTW the single shot rifles included a Martini action Cogswell and Harrison with an octagonal barrel and chambered down from 22 hornet. Now that is a rifle I would have loved to own.

    Congratulations on your find!
    I have a #2, Mark4 Parker Hale conversion of a 1916 Sht.LE III from the LSA factory that spent some time with the RUC before finding its way to Texas. Unfortunately, all my magazine does is catch spent casings.
    Fun little rifle, though I'm not sure how accurate its mid mounted adjustable 'rear' sight is, it's marked from 2(00) through 20(00) meters with 25 yard steps. At about the 150 meter mark is where bullets normally drop into place on the 30 yard range. I've also been gifted with the proper bayonet for the rifle, though it does seem a bit out of place on the front of a .22.

    I have the Canadian number 7. The Canadian version is a single shot, no 5 round magazine. Interestingly, the "303" magazine is empty and the rounds fall in it when ejecting - it is also removable. I inherited the rifle with the box, sling, and cleaning kit. It has the long range sights as well. I believe ours were used by cadets and this one had a note from the weapons tech stating what work he had done to it. Nice to see the RAF version.

    We had them in Air Cadets in Canada too. I understand the Army and Navy Cadets had them too. Most were the single shot ones, but we did have the repeaters in my Squadron, but we were required to single load them on the indoor range. Accuracy was like all Lee-Enfield Rifles some were excellent and were put aside for the rifle team, most were adequate and used for general training and some were awful, these were deactivated and used by the drill squad.
    I have a USA Mossberg 22 training rifle.

    A very rare variant of the Enfield indeed. Only 2,500 of these "repeaters" were manufactured, and I am also very fortunate to also own one thanks to very generous uncle who used to collect Enfields back in the day. I believe that this variant was mostly used by the Royal Air Force.

    My LE .22 is on a 1914 receiver, is marked SHT .22 IV*. It showed up at a local shop and I grabbed it. It has a BSA barrel, the rear volley sight and the disk of the front volley sight. Good job getting your No. 7! Here in New Hampshire USA we have no problems buying what we want, how is it in Switzerland?

    I was extremely lucky and we had a range at my school and tuesday lunch times you could go and shoot. Loved shooting the number 8 but I've never wanted one because breach loading isn't fun (I may have been spoiled by the .22 converted l95A2). If I ever were to buy a gun this is the most tempting one of the lot

    Here in Australia there's the No.2 rifle (SMLE No. 1 action/body) but once the SMLE No. 3/3* was adopted they primary used conversion kits instead. Same thing was done with the FN commonly referred to as the SLR) However as these kits generally were used by schools for cadets they are not too easy to acquire these days...

    When I was in Sea Cadets, we would use a single shot .22 Lees. I think they were No.9s. But they were hell to use. They didn't have any ramp or anything for the cartridge, so you just had to shove it straight into the chamber. Normally that shouldn't be a problem, but we only used the .22s for Biathlons and it was a choice between fumbling .22s and losing time, or freezing your bare hands in -30C.

    .22 martini's! What! I wish I could find one of those in the states. I would throw my wallet at them and buy it. Havent seen one of these rifles in a while. My father owned one but it just was the single shot and had the box mag empty I guess to hold your shells or what not. He got his mint and I think never shot or used given the condition back in the good ol days when no one cared about these rifles and he got it for a steal practically. I find it funny I mentioned to you last oh do you do anything else besides k series rifles and do you have .22's and behold you do a .22 that is a enfield. Boy do you deliver on content haha.

      Back in the 1990s when Navy Arms still had a retail store in Ridgefield, New Jersey they kept getting lots of different .22 martinis along with the flodd of surplus arms that was was coming into the U.S. then.. The condition of the Martinis was fair to poor but they were still shooters. I got a BSA model 10 military trainer with Parker Hale sights and a Belgium made Martini rook rifle in .22 with a nice octagon barrel. They also had many full size Martini Henry's rebarreled to .22 lr that I regret not having bought. Since Navy Arms was an importer, my belief was that these rifles were coming out of either the U.K or more likely South Africa.

      Probably from here in South Africa as school shooting with 22`s was stopped.Many South African schools had 25 yd ranges. Always wondered what happened to mine,the one I used 45 years ago!

      Your great uncle did not carry a post-war .22 training rifle in North Africa.

      Maybe the # 7 without the magazine but not ones with. If you indeed do have one with the 5 round mag, you own one of only 2,500 made. As do I BTW.

    No. 7 are extremely expensive. The single shot 22's are way less expensive.
