- Legendary Singer Frank Sinatra and Comedian Joey Bishop were part of the iconic Rat Pack. Frank helped bring Joey into the spotlight and once Joey had 'made it' - he threw it back in Franks face during one of the most traumatic moments of his life.
Narrated, edited and produced by Ciaran. - บันเทิง
My dad used to say that Joey Bishops biggest talent was having Frank Sinatra as a friend.
This is one truly outstanding mini-documentary! You more than earned my subscription, I'm looking forward to more of your work! Greetings from an American in The Netherlands.
@MrMenefrego 1. Ciao from a Sicilian American living in Palermo Sicily.
Love the idea of this channel. Gotta work on those decibel levels though
Thank you for letting me know that I’ll bear that in mind in the future!
Keep em’ coming. I’m subbed
He was on opposite Carson his sidekick was Regis Philbin.
Joey was a frequent guest host on the Tonight Show in the 70's after his show ended and was on the Dean Martin show roasts from time to time.
He was indeed. Believe me I want to do a whole episode on just Joey. Rather than the effect his fallout with Frank had on him. Rick A Lertzman did an amazing book about him ‘Deconstructing the Rat Pack’. Largely focusing on Joey.
I never saw him on the tonight show.
I have to agree with Shecky Greene on this. I've seen a lot of Joey Bishop, including the entirety of his short-lived sitcom; he was little more than a comedy vacuum. He was a kvetcher who sucked up the levity in a situation, dampening any humorous moments that might be there.
This is a quote Shecky Greene gave to Kliph Nesteroff on the below website. If you’re interested in these older entertainers this website overall is a fascinating treasure trove

He also wrote my favourite book ‘The Comedians’ which I recommended thoroughly.
@@WeirdShowbizHistory Thanks. I'll take a look at it.
I totally agree. I never thought Joey Bishop had any talent. He just wasn't funny.
I agree...I thought he was a bore.
Sinatra never liked anyone who didn't kiss his ass .
I’m loving your feuds ❤
Cheers, I’m a real nerd for this stuff
These things happen friends Fall out, but they will be together now entertaining 👍
Disloyalty can never be forgiven!
What's with the horrible video quality?!? For a while I thought my laptop was going to Hell!
Hi. The horizontal lines in the black-and-whites are lines that were visible on the old televisions, way back.
11:06 Could've sworn at first that was Ed McMahon.
Have been watching the early sixties show Joey Bishop show, and iam amazed how this show survived. Plot, 40 yr old man still living with his mother and siblings.Plot lines thin and corny. The one good thing a very young and pretty Marlo Thomas, u could see she Had a future. Also most episodes black and white and than in color. Intresting.
I read in Rick A Lertzmanns book about Joey that he really was pretty disrespectful to most of the cast - including Marlo who's dad wasn't best pleased. Seems pretty short sighted to get on the wrong side of an influential comedy legend Danny Thomas.
I’m 65 and my grandfather used to call him (Frank) Frank-not -so-hottra
Your grandfather must've been a hoot! He was right too.
Whew! Never heard about this blowup. Don't blame Frank at all for dropping Bishop. Bishop sounds like a real prick.
11:41 That's not how you spell "kidnapped"!
Frank did find another comedian. Don Rickles.
He did yeah. I love their relationship. Personally I think Don didn’t need Frank though to boost his career in the same way Joey did. Rickles made it alone regardless
@@WeirdShowbizHistory maybe not. But Rickles followed Frank around like a puppy dog. And Frank did help his career.
Joey Bishop was definitely the least impressive member of the Pack!
Frank was the Best! He also , I heard paid for Sammy Davis funeral. He assisted Altrovise with money for the funeral. Great, loyal friend to the end.
I never understood what Sinatra saw in Bishop. But then I also never understood what John saw in Yoko.
Good analogy
I meet Joey Bishop 1 time and thought he was rude arrogant and didn't impress me at all.
But then he did the right thing by singing at Connie Corleone's wedding so don Vito took care of that Hollywood pezzonovante Woltz for him.
i don't like to speak ill of the dead - but Joey sounds like he was a real douche.
Rickles and Jerry Lewis were loyal to Frank. I love Frank, miss him. I wish i had a pal like him.
I love his friendship with Sammy Davis Junior. One of my earliest memories was watching breakfast TV and his passing being announced, I was too young to understand pretty much anything but I remember feeling it was massive.
Bishop was never funny.
Joey, like Peter Lawford was lucky to be considered a member of the Rat Pack. He was only moderately talented and certainly a dim star compared to Frank, Sammy and Dean.
He used to write a lot of their jokes.
Lawford was a so so actor , but he was married to Kennedy’s sister . In fact he was known as Peter In-Lawford . After the big snub when Kennedy stayed at Bing Crosby’s house instead of Sinatra’s , Lawford was pretty much done
I never found Joey Bishop funny at all. Ego has been the downfall of many entertainers and media stars.
Joey was ahhh
