  • UPDATE March 2013 They found a mis-soldered connector that was causing the issues with the power supply, and so under the manufacturers warranty (at an authorized service center) the problem was fixed
    I had a problem with my Denon 3312 home theatre receiver. This was a detailed video I filmed prior to it being fixed. I have uploaded this to help others in case that have this issue:
    Issue: Receiver would shut off every few seconds and reboot.
    Problem: There was a problem apparently with the built in power supply unit that was providing insufficient power to the processor.

    I called Denon for support today and we reset the receiver processor by pushing the on/standby and quick presets 2 and 3 at the same time. It reset everything back to default settings. Its been working fine all day!

    yes it literally sounds like an internal relay is being tripped every 28 seconds as you have observed in video; that could be caused by one of two things and open somewhere in the denon power regulation circuit and/or open it up and look for where the location of this clicking relay is; then look around to see any nearby aluminum heatsink with mounted power regulation transistors to the heatsink; usually the power transistors might come in the form of a pair of power transistors mounted to aluminum heatsinks; one will have to remove those power transistors from the underside of the backplane electronics boards in order to make it possible to remove the power transistors; hopefully after these power transistors have been replaced the denon will be restored to normal operation; these things can be quite difficult to troubleshoot depending on the actual complexity of the problem found of course.

    I'm glad to hear it's working! I TOTALLY forgot to mention that! resetting the microprocessor is the receiver equivalent of turning a PC off then on again!!

    ya the best thing you can really do is get it to a service center. I was very lucky to have one not too far from me, so that was the natural choice. In that way, they are able to do a lot more detailed diagnostics and fixes.

  • @PhilKnudson

    If it is still in warranty, I recommend bringing it to a service center. Mine isn't having any such issues any more. It could be the power supply as well (because that is where the click typically comes from) and it may just be not providing enough to power the center channel for whatever reason. or could be two separate unrelated issues?

  • @PhilKnudson
    @PhilKnudson  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    @jesbstroem ya that's exactly what the problem ended up being related to the power supply. issues with some connections in there that resulted in inadequate power being supplied causing this issue as it was going through the full boot sequence

    I havent got it fixed. The Denon 3312(ci) comes with a 3 year warranty. I called and checked. Denon said anything with a CI after the model number comes with a 3 year warranty and I would have to take it to the nearest dealer which is 200 miles away from me. I've been too lazy to drive there and dont want to pay shipping. I've just been using the HDMI pass through and using my TV speakers. I'll have to break down and take it eventually.

    Mine has been clicking like that too but the video stays on and the receiver stays on the only problem is my center channel will drop out intermittently. Its annoying. Still havent found out why its doing that.

      that's interesting! I hadn't made any connection to temperature because it was winter and we had heater on most times I was using it (despite that, sometimes it worked and sometimes it would do this) Great observation!

    • @PhilKnudson
      @PhilKnudson  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      when i saw power supply unit, i actually mean the power bring that is on the inside of the case of the receiver at the back where the power cord comes in. For me, at least, they found an issue with some cable in there, and after fixing that it was fine. But it is definitely possible that there could be multiple things that could cause this problem.

    I had an issue with my denon avr-3805. It ticked me off because its been so reliable and well built. I had looked at the manufacturing date and turns out it was really old and the amp circuit went. My grandfather had told me his 3312ci was shutting off and rebooting. Ticked him off cause he only had it a year. We didnt know it was a soldering issue. Anyways we upgraded i got a denon avr-s510bt, and he got a denon avr-x4000

    • @PhilKnudson
      @PhilKnudson  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      My issue was specifically a problem with the power supply unit. Sometimes resetting the microprocessor does the job:
      1 - Turn off the power using ON/STANDBY.
      2 - Press ON/STANDBY while simultaneously pressing the "" buttons on the front panel.
      3 - Once the display starts flashing at intervals of about 1 second, release the two buttons.
      ** If in step 3 the display does not flash at intervals of about 1 second, start over from step 1.
