Modifications include: Hacked GT3B radio controller from OverkillRC, Axial Wraith transmission in Vanquish aluminum housing, Vanquish Hurtz Dig, custom underdrive, custom 45-degree steering, and HB Rovers (white dot).

Heavy modifications. I went with an Axial transmission and vanquish dig system. I also lengthened the rear links.
I had a Vanquish dig unit (best dig ever) installed next to an Axial transmission. The dig was set up to be actuated with the extra channels on my transmitter.

Thanks! It is a fun rig. Super challenging to get set up well, but a formidable crawler when dialed in. Also a good compromise between scale and comp.
@@hewlejr I've extended all my links 1 1/4 inch does pretty well. What benefits would you say you've gained from doin the rear only?
It effectively moves more weight up front, which is what you want in a crawler.
I have 2 sets of those shocks on 2 of my crawlers and i think they are great, they come with 3 sets of springs so you can really tune them to your liking or like you, take the springs right out. Or even set the spring under the shock collar for max droop.

This guys probably on vacation crawling around in the rocks and bushes hiding from his wife and kids... I’d be doin the same if I had a rig like that 😂

Out of the box, it performs pretty poorly. It takes a bit of work to get it running well, but that's half the fun.

I know this video is almost a year old but I still love watching it.
I have to ask if you stretched the back to get the shocks in that position?
Thanks! The R1 is such a great platform. I did stretch the back end by about 3/4 inch.
joshua hewlett, when u mention that you stretch 3/4 of an inch longer at the rear, do u need to change the stock drive shaft as well?
@@Stonely1974 I also own an r1, with the aluminum stealth chassis, you do need a longer drive shaft if you stretch the rear that much
@@OverlandSubaru do you mind telling me the length and brand of the extended and original drive shalft for the V2 stealth chassis? I am considering switching to stealth v2 chassis.
@@Stonely1974 brand I'm not sure, I went with "punisher" shafts but they broke (lost pins, forgot lock tite) then I went with a Chinese aluminum no name because I needed something quick. It's really about the lenth, the cheap one's I bought (wish app for android) have held up remarkably well. 50+ crawls and zero issues.

Thanks! I used Crawler Innovations Double Deuce foam system. I can't remember the stiffness, but I ran softer up front.
You tried mounting a FPV camera on it? Givers amazing footage.
I have and it is definitely fun! Planning on building a nitro truggy for FPV at some point.

Those are HB Rover soft (white dot) tires. They don't make them anymore. :( Sometimes you can find them on ebay and other sites.
Nice rig I have one coming soon and was wondering what you had to do to accomplish overdrive in the front?
Thanks! The R1 is one of the most fun rigs to mod as it bridges the gap between scale and comp and offers enough of both to make for a uniquely fun experience!

What trani and dig system are you running in this?
How do you get the rear to lock like that?
I installed a Vanquish Products Hurtz Dig system. Freaking amazing upgrade. It's a shame they discontinued them.
What are you using for the rear axle I noticed a couple times in it did via solid beep and then the rear axle would lock up you mind explaining how you did that are what you used
I have an Axial transmission and Vanquish Products Hurtz dig system installed. The dig allows you to lock or disengage the rear drive using a third channel on your transmitter. Super fun to drive and tightens turning radius remarkably. It also lets you shift the rear into neutral as you start steep climbs so that the rear wheels don't bite and flip you over backwards.
How have You don to get The anker setup? ?
Are your shocks in DROOP set-up?
I run sprung up front and droop in the rear. You can see my mounting points in my profile picture.

I using 27t think it's to fast but still crawls
After I put the Axial transmission in, I had to gear WAY down, even with the 55T to get the rig to crawl smoothly.

How long does a 2s 5000mah last with ”normal driving”
I run 3s and I can go for a couple of hours.
How did you stretch the rear ?
I custom fabbed a set of link extensions

Those are the stock GMade Wheels with HB Rover White-Dot tires.
What motor you got in
Cheap, brushed, Integy, 55T. It has served me well!
How did you fit a wraith transmission in it?
It was tricky. I ordered the Delrin skid-plate and carefully drilled it out for the Wraith trans. A set of center-punches helps.
joshua hewlett how did you do the driveshafts and where did you get the wrath transmission
@@nolanhauge , I used the hardened steel Junfac drive shafts (5mm hole with 95-130mm travel) from rcrun.com. They are compact enough to provide clearance for the wraith spur gear cover. The transmission is the aluminum one from Vanquish Products. You'll need a Traxxas 58T 32P spur gear and a 6T 32P pinion to get the gear reduction where you want it. I have a tutorial on the RCCrawler forums that covers my overdrive mod for the R1.
