I'm truly glad that you found something, Slim. Your camping style and mine are remarkably similar with a couple exceptions: I'm slightly claustrophobic and have a 75-pound dog. This trailer would absolutely not work for us, but I have no doubt that in a matter months you'll have all of us small camper people totally amazed. Congratulations!

I know you will, but PLEASE document your build. I think a lot of us that watch your videos really enjoy the DIY aspect. I came to your channel because of your 3 part ammo case stove project. Even though I stayed for your talent as a "travel log" videographer, I really enjoy your customization projects. The view of a gutted shell is far from being a nightmare for me. My imagination starts filling in all the voids with all kinds of interior arrangements. Here's my 2 cents: At least in the U.S. regulated inspection points only apply to the vehicle portion of the trailer. A commercial builder has to follow all sorts of rules for wiring, plumbing, lighting, safety devices, and utility set-ups. Since you are not customizing intended for resale you don't have to follow those regulations. I will say, however, those construction regulations usually have a valid reason such as using crimped electrical connections as opposed to wire-nuts (a U.S. regulation for road vehicles, marine vessels, and aircraft; for vibration stability). A quick search shows the National Marine Manufacturers Association Canada or "NMMA" is the agency used in Canada to standardize and regulate commercial construction methods, and several web pages that break down those regulations. As a private or personal project builder, its good to know those regulations, but you can choose to follow them - or not, however, the safety inspection certificate would probably reduce insurance costs. Again, the regulations concerning the road vehicle itself like tires, hitch requirements, traffic safety lighting and such is a must, at least in the U.S.

Oh still my beating heart! A Trillium ❤️. I bought a refurbished vintage 1976 one and adored “Bertie”. Unfortunately health issues required a different type of rig. I also paid full price for a needle in a haystack here in Ontario. She sold in under 24 hrs to a young family who lived hundreds of miles away. She is well loved still. Slim...after owning my RT for awhile and limited road miles I am convinced simpler is better. Unreliable gauges and stupidly engineered systems will never satisfy an owner who knows better. You got a goldmine my friend. So happy for you. 🥳🥳🥳

Yes!!! I have ordered a custom build, my own design, from Taylor Coach, and a lot of planning of how it would work for me...with only what I want in it!! So I have watched a lot of reno videos, and gleamed some good ideas!!!!

Slim, I think you'll be very happy with your Outback once you get it reconfigured to suit your needs. I've owned two of the original Trilliums, manufactured in Burnaby, BC (with the distinctive triskele molded into the door) and loved both of them.

I will stay in a hotel as I dont camp out enough to warrant the expenditure. Mr. Potato has his own version of comfort and seems to do a good job putting it together.

Congrats Slim. It was a hard choice, but, yay, more diy! I went the single axle 12 ft cargo way and did it while living in Winnipeg. I would have kept the water tank and supplemented with external water tanks, especially with the indoor and outdoor showers. I used a bucket with a toilet seat for my boondock toilet, a garbage bag inside and a bag of sawdust makes it manageable. Goes in a tent outside for use when with guests. A good composting toilet takes up more room but supposedly lasts longer between emptying, but they are pricey. On the good side, no more leaking! You will have condensation inside the camper even when it's just sitting. I didn't know you were an Albertan, used to go to Edmonton all the time when I was living in Yellowknife. I was sure you were from Ontario.

I bought an older class c and we have taken out the heater(replaced with a wave 3) microwave is now storage and broken frig ,now I have a shelf for pots and pans and a really nice cooler on locking wheels. And of course we rebuilt roof and top bunk area! We don't feel bad at all, we're making it work for us.
I like how you made it custom to your needs. A place to feel snug and secure. You also have room for things that make camping more enjoyable. Good choice.. Not even my camper and i can feel that joy.

In my opinion you’ve made a good choice. You have the perfect shell to build your own RV. I love that it has an awning too. Remember to repack the wheel bearings before you hit the road.
Enjoy the journey and reward for your own rebuilding efforts. I recently finished rebuilding a 2004 30 foot class a with 18,000 miles. It is now literally a "muscle motorhome" like a "muscle car." No exaggeration. No expense was spared on high performance mechanical upgrades, paint, furnature etc. People line up and take pictures and ask questions when they see it. It's been fun. I believe you will have and enjoy the same experience I did.

Love it and the fact when finished it will be what YOU want. Everything takes “time” but keep in mind the end goal. Don’t worry your viewers will always stick with you. The trouble with society today is that a lot of people live in a McDonalds world. This is one of the reasons many like myself are turning to “van life” because we want to slow down and enjoy the journey. Take time to appreciate the process.
I think he saved himself some future pain. We may take for granted how relatively easily it is to raise the roof on the A-Liner. But when a shoulder goes bum for a while (and you're going solo) I imagine it can be a helluva task! That's a step he no longer has to take.

Slim, you made an EXCELLENT choice. I have a Casita 17ft. Spirit Deluxe. I thought at first it was a Casita 13 ft. which is a very up class travel trailer. I notice it has lots of cabinets and other storage space. With your talent of mod designs it's going to last you a life time. And looks like it's all fiberglass. Perfect trailer for one person.

I agree. I shuddered at the idea of ripping out things that are in good condition. And there are two tables right next to the galley, so why remove a sink? Or a board could have been put over the sink, if you insist. But it's Slim's van, and no doubt he will make a good job of it.
@@g-r-a-e-m-e- I have an 18' Rpod. It was probably 5 years before I felt ok to remodel and make it my personal bohemian style. When dometic fridge died bought a nIce cooler which holds a good week. And I took bathroom door off. Curtain works fine.

Working at Lazy Days at one time we hated to tell someone their trade was worth near nothing all because they painted and ripped out a dinette...Everyone thinks shabby shic is cool but ick!! As a dealer we cringe to walk in to see the furniture that came from the factory ripped out!! It means they get next to nothing on trade..

Great little trailer. Your story of how you found and bought your trailer is exactly how I found and bought my Casita. Upside, don’t have to worry about leaks with these fiberglass trailers. Downside, it’s harder to work with the fiberglass doing modifications, as you’re experiencing. Looking forward to seeing the first finished version of your trailer. I don't own a trailer or an RV, I have never owned, nor do I ever plan on owning one. All of that being said, I couldn't wait to see what Slim got!!!

I like that one can stand throughout, and it doesn't require any setup to get in. Just open the door. Much better especially in bad wx.

That’s a cute trailer! I have a 17’ Casita and I love it. For me, a fiberglass camper meets my needs in terms of ease of maintenance and easy to pull. I am also a solo camper with my trusty sidekick, TheWonderDog, and I really enjoy seeing your videos. I look forward to seeing how you customize your new trailer!

I thought at first it was a Casita 13 ft. which is a very up class travel trailer.
I notice it has lots of cabinets and other storage space. With your talent of
mod designs it's going to last you a life time. And looks like it's all fiberglass.

Slim that was weird to rip out a perfectly good interior yet that clearly is the best route for you. This will be fun to watch the process.
I agree. I shuddered at the idea of ripping out things that are in good condition. And there are two tables right next to the galley, so why remove a sink? Or a board could have been put over the sink, if you insist. But it's Slim's van, and no doubt he will make a good job of it.
@@g-r-a-e-m-e- I have an 18' Rpod. It was probably 5 years before I felt ok to remodel and make it my personal bohemian style. When dometic fridge died bought a nIce cooler which holds a good week. And I took bathroom door off. Curtain works fine.
@@g-r-a-e-m-e- I have bought and sold RV's for over 20 years..the absolute worst thing for resale value is to cut one up like this!! Working at Lazy Days at one time we hated to tell someone their trade was worth near nothing all because they painted and ripped out a dinette...Everyone thinks shabby shic is cool but ick!! As a dealer we cringe to walk in to see the furniture that came from the factory ripped out!! It means they get next to nothing on trade..

Great little trailer. Your story of how you found and bought your trailer is exactly how I found and bought my Casita. Upside, don’t have to worry about leaks with these fiberglass trailers. Downside, it’s harder to work with the fiberglass doing modifications, as you’re experiencing. Looking forward to seeing the first finished version of your trailer. I’m betting there will be at least another tweek
I would recommend you upgrade your trailer tires as well, for your off-road adventures👍🏼 Look forward to your travels.
