When you realize that the only reason why Aatrox screams so much is because he is terrified of not being heard, the only reason he kills is out of pure despair and in search of the slightest grim of hope that maybe someone can destroy him and his blade, and when you realize that the reason why he has so many quotes in the 3rd person is because he's afraid of being alone... such a sad character, From The strongest Hero That has been born, to a Betrayed Madman who has lost hope even in death, carried now only by his former pride...Also the thing about the “Fight or be forgotten” line is… Old Aatrox told this to his enemies. New Aatrox tells this to himself. If he stop fighting, he reverts into prison… In the dark, hungry, unable to breath, unable to scream… Just a sword, buried and… Forgotten.

I think it's genuinely so fucking badass that Aatrox didn't just KILL Pantheon, he killed the very thought of Pantheon. Completely removing his constellation out of the sky

Yeah Pantheon isn't his real name, it's the name of the Aspect of War inside the human we call "Pantheon". Aatrox stabbed Pantheon so hard the Aspect of war inside him died xd

Been expecting this. Some answers:
Yes, Aatrox seeks to destroy everyone and everything since he wishes for death, but is unable to die.
The champion "Pantheon" is actually now just the mortal called "Atreus" whose body was used as the aspect of war by the celestial Pantheon, who was the one Aatrox actually killed, thus why he's "the god killer".
Kayle and Morgana both have the powers of the aspect of justice, I suggest you get more into their lore since it's quite interesting.
When he says "I know it was you, trickster" he's actually talking to Zoe, since it was Myisha, the previous aspect of twillight, who trapped the Darkin within their weapons.
Rhaast is Kayn's scythe, whose power constantly tries to overtake his body, and in game is one of the two transformations he can undergo (red form).

Aatrox is the blade, he was trapped in his sword. When a mortal picks up the blade they are taken over by Aatrox.
So how the Darkin work now that they are sealed within the weapons is that when someone or something living touches the weapon, the Darkin possesses them. From there, whenever they kill something, they use blood magic to grow themselves increasing their size and power with each person that is slain. So him talking about being an unholy copy of life is a reference to that. So Aatrox in that teaser cinematic likely had killed a lot of people on the battlefield and absorbed a lot of blood.
Additionally, when they are not posessing someone, they are basically in a senseless void while inside their weapon. In many ways, the Darkin are like the opposite of the Watchers, because the Watchers started with no idea of their life and suddenly were made aware by the light of the universe. Aatrox had life and power, and was thrust into a void where he cannot feel, but knows time is passing and there is nothing he can do, so he seeks to end his misery by destroying everything, in the hopes that either someone can end him, or that by ending the world, he might be destroyed with it.
With him being in a sense less void, you are half correct. He can not see anything, but he still has the feeling and urges to breathe, so when he does not have a host, he is choking painfully, but unable to die. The hosts also wither rapidly when he possesses them, so killing helps prolong the lifespan of the body he possesses. His greatest fear is being left on a battlefield and buried in mud, forever trapped in his blade form, suffocating and longing for death.
Aatrox is the typical hero how lives long enough to become a villain
The darkins were either killed with the chalicar or imprisoned into their own weapons. (That's why his blade has a heartbeat, he is in the blade, the body you see, was someone else and he took control of it). The imprisoned darkins remained like that until someone finds the weapon and tries to wield it. Then the darkin takes control of the body. And using blood magic, after killing and killing they morph their bodies because otherwise the bodies would decay very rapidly. He is searching for a worthy vessel. That's why you hear quotes like "march flesh...", Like he is referring to his body like it wasn't his, because it isn't. They are trapped in the weapons and must constantly stop the decay of the bodies they take control of.
He has fought Pantheon (that's when Aatrox killed the celestial) and Tryndamere (thanks to the injury Tryndamere sustained, he now has some sort of blood magic abilities). He considers Atreus and Tryndamere both solid candidates as bodies/vessels for him.
Aatrox, Pantheon and Aurelion Sol are the holy Trinity of being fked up by the celestials. Those 3 are trying to destroy them.
Aatrox vs Morde is interesting. I personally think that besides the void, those 2 are the other world ending threats of Runeterra. Viego could have been another but he was only focused on his wife.

Also technically it wasn't Zoe who trapped the darkin, it was the previous twilight aspect, but she wasn't Zoe yet.
In terms of power-scaling it's bit up for debate now that the Darkin lore has been expanded upon.
Originally Aatrox was at the top of the charts, but below beings like Mordekaiser who's more spirit then physically there, and most people put the strongest aspects like Kayle above him as well, largely cause of the fact we didn't actually know any of his "achievements" aside from leading the Ascended against the void in Icathia and destroying Pantheon.
However now we've seen some more concrete examples from the "what if" scenarios of LoR. Basically Aatrox is strong enough to potentially win in a 1v3 fight against Xolaani (another powerful Darkin who he hates very deeply), Kayle (the strongest Aspect), and Ryze (the most powerful Rune Mage on the face of Runeterra). In some of the what ifs he does lose, but the fact that he CAN potentially win that fight and in the process causing the world to rip apart and officially becoming a "World Ender," this means he's potentially the second strongest being on the roster, only under Aurelion Sol himself.
We also know that Aatrox can infact hurt spirits, to go back to Mordekaiser specifically. Xolaani in one what if consumes the embodiment of justice, who doesn't have a physical form, and Aatrox's blood magic is based off of Xolaani so we know he can also harm non-physical forms. Not to mention he destroyed Pantheon, the aspect himself, without killing Atreus, the man Pantheon was inhabiting, so we do have evidence of this as well.
You should check out Aatrox's LoR interactions for some more lore as well, it shows his hatred and disdain for some of the other Darkin, but also the fact he actually cares very deeply for the well being of the Darkin who didn't betray him and stuck by him. Shows he still has a soft side, which makes his story even more tragic lol
WOW. Aatrox must be insanely powerful...TO me it seems there's only a few who could defeat him then 1v1 in lore.
fyi Xolaani didn't invent blood magic. She's a healer so she's in tune with it and relies to it compared to her brothers/sisters.
They learned forbidden sorceries like Xerath and mastered primal magics, how could people ignore this?
Also WArgobrh- whatchamacallit a Rioter once said they already killed a lot of spirit gods (like Ornn and Volibear) and the process of Sun Disc ritual is having the essence of your concept/ideal/aspect to your own too so basically The Aspect of Twilight is batshit crazy having a "idea" War that might endanger reality at its best

Hmmm, this is 8 months old but Aatrox certainly wouldn't be #2 in terms of strength on the roster and still below beings like Mord, Bard, Kindred, and fiddle for example.

Yes, other Darkin are his allies (well, most of them). Aatrox is actually their general, and other Darkin also wish to die just as him.

Darkins are the weapons not the people.
Aatrox was an ascended that fought the void but throughout the war he got corrupted and since he was too strong to be killed by the ascended he was locked in the weapon, becoming a darkin, by the aspect of twilight. In general aatrox really just wants to die but no one can kill him
Aatrox (at least as of the latest set of Legends of Runeterra) is currently in Icathia as he has sensed the reawakening of Xolaani, another darkin whom started the darkin wars. As seen in several cards he does have allies, some darkin that were scattered throughout the world. He has called them to war, as the coward of Icathia must be silenced at all costs. The other darkin are as follows; Joraal, imprisoned in his shield, was formerly locked in a vault in Demacia. Praa, imprisoned in their fan, was kept away in Ionia. Styraatu, imprisoned in their harp, buried deep beneath Zaun. Ibaaros, imprisoned in his trident, deep beneath the oceans of Bilgewater. Anaaka, imprisoned in his spear, in ths mountains of the Freljord. Baalkux (ignore his name, saying it out loud is too much), imprisoned in his staff, hidden away in The Bandlewood. Naganeka of Zureta, imprisoned in a massive balista, she is freed and possesed a chicken as her host. Horazi, imprisoned in her lodestone, kept in Mt. Targon. And finally Taarosh, the Darkin Halberd, he seems to be currently controlled by Xolaani.
Aatrox and his soldiers have begun their confrontation with the Coward of Icatia. The outcome is not entirely known, but the darkin wars have certainly been reignited, and all of runeterra may be the cost for this conflict.
Aatrox is depressed because he was traped in a blade, yes aatrox is the sword, he was forever traped in there besically just existing without living, he corrupted a host so he could be free but now is feels like he is just a shadow of his former self, a disgrace and now he just wants to end everything so that way he may be able to die

15:04 I believe they do fear him. He killed pantheon once but instead of killing the man with pantheon's power he somehow killed the god himself, erasing the constelation of the aspect of war. Which is why it is incredible that pantheon(atreus, the actual champion in league) survived where a god died
The way he says "Nothing can kill me" I do not die and so on. It's not boasting or arrogance. It's depression. He wants something to kill him but thus far nothing can truly kill him. They can destroy his physical form but Aatrox- the sword is forever trapped. He wishes death. "I march to death, though I wish it was my own".
I think you will enjoy Kayn's voicelines, he wields a darkin weapon Rhaast. And their interactions are top tier
The problem with Mordekaiser vs Aatrox is that Aatrox can't be killed only his host, and Morde has conquered the afterlife. If they went at it Aatrox would just go back to being a sword every time he dies, and Morde would just return to the realm of death, reconstitute himself and come back to the world of the living. The really interesting question is what would happen if Morde picked up Aatrox's blade.
One can only assume a battle of wills. THE Ascended, the one and only Darkin general, The ender of all things vs The master of the death realm. This would surely be an apocalyptic event. In terms of like pure power-scaling (asuming that when they go at it, they dont just endlessly reincarnate) id give a SLIGHT edge to Aatrox. He has the experience, the power to destroy literal concepts, the strength and (potentially) the size of mountains. Mordekaiser conquering the realm of death is quite frankly insane, but probs not enough to topple Aatrox.
@@okem8408 Problem with that is that Mordekaiser could probably do exactly what Aatrox did if given the chance, kill an aspect. We just aren't totally sure since he's never encountered one in the lore that I'm aware of. But Mordekaiser literally forges things out of souls, he's a dominator through and through. He literally looked at the death realm, said "wtf... Fine I'll do it myself" when what should have happened was that he died, went to the realm of death and lost all sense of self. But he didn't, his will is probably equal to Aatrox if we really think about it.
@@Tom-re6zo The wills, i can get behind those being of equal magnitude/force. But the whole "mordekaiser could probably" is just BS. No offense. But Aatrox did it and mordekaiser didn't. And no other being in the entirety of the LoL/LoR universe has ever achieved such a feat. Only Aatrox. That alone is enough to put him above mord.

Aatrox was a Shuriman ascended, but like the other Darkin was twisted into his current appearance by The Void. Afterwards, The Aspect of Twilight sealed him and his brethren into weapons (such as sword, scythe and bow).
Aatrox is purest form of villain. He doesnt have misunderstood, but noble goals, he doesnt seek power or whatever form of enrichment. He is pure antithesis to humanity, but in a person.
The one who talk he is imprisoned in the sword. The body you see. The body he calls "crude materials" is just made of Manny corpses put together to give him a form. He is forever traped in the sword.
Aatrox and the other darkins were seal into weapons. The sword he holding is him, when a random mortal pick him up. Once he touch the sword Aatrox try to use blood magic to look close to his Ascended form as possible, but in doing so killed the body.
Aatrox would eventually come to possess a variety of hosts because his form is always decaying so he need human flesh to make it stable. He afraid in being trap as just a sword again. But he soon found out he couldn’t die his is basically immortal.
Aatrox decided that he would plunge the world into oblivion. Because if he could make it so everything could stop existing, then there was a chance that death could release him from his prison inside his weapon.

My man is literally too angry to die. He is one of the most interesting characters in league, probably the most deep one in terms of emotions, you can feel his depression through his voice lines
Aatrox: I cannot die, so i will make it your problem.
Aatrox still to this day is the ONLY being we know of that was able to kill a celestial god. Hence his nickname "the god killer". So yeah hes definitely high up on the power tier.
I think that makes him honestly one of the more interesting Darkin/characters in League lore.
The craziest part is that even with all that suffering and despair is that aatrox before primal beings like bard aurelion and fiddlesticks. And morderkaiser he is the strongest
Your should do Ornn, he is one of the primordial gods, he has some good lore interactions and interactions with other character, one of which is aatrox

The thing is, aatrox can't choose not to fight, he does not possess a form on his own, he needs to spill more blood to keep recreating that humanoid form. The blade has too much power in it, it destroys the thing wielding it, so he keeps on killing and using more flesh to sustain the form, or his host dies and he has to wait for who knows how long to be picked up again. I do believe the aspect did not know that they could just turn whatever touches them into a darkin form. If they did, they could have just made them very heavy objects, so nobody could wield them, and they couldn't blood control the hosts, since the body can't get separated with the blade for long. Celestia kinda wanted to honor them I think, letting them choose their prison weapons. Another thing is, celestia probably intervened quickly before they were really unstoppable, seeing what they were capable of, they did not reach nowhere near their potentials before being trapped. But since three of them are roaming free, with a fourth on the way (Aatrox, Rhaast and Varus) they are getting stronger and stronger with time. Thats why Aatrox is saying the gods fear them probably. The next big event of the game's lore can be the darkin fight. I hope they reach celestia, and the gods realize they can't stop them at this point, so they use their power to restore their forms back to their godhood, getting rid of their chains, and letting them be free. In turn, we can have the ascended darkins fighting against the void, but winning the battle for good this time.

One more thing, one of the writers of aatrox lore stated that illaois god, Nagakeburos, could not delete aatrox from existence and neither could the aspect of twilight, even after the concept that aatrox embodied as an ascendant was erased from existence aatrox still remained, this implies that he has type 10 immortality meaning there is no character in league of legends that can actually kill him lol
I knew my boy was strong, but dam, nonone being able to kill him. I wanted to see aatrox in death battle but now im like, maybe he is one of the few who should not be in death battle

To summaries the rise and fall of the Darkin.
They were once shurima's god warriors the ascended. They were immortal in body, but their minds were just as fragile as it was before their ascension. During their war against the Void that was summoned by their neighbors, almost all living ascended were 'currupted' by the void causing them to slowly go insane. Nasus, Azir and Renekton were able to keep the currupted ascended in check for awhile but after Azir's death, Renekton's imprisonment, and Nasus going into depression the ascended had free reign to do whatever they wanted. Most fought for power and other reasons but an ascended known as Xolaani plotted to control the fallen through the creation of blood magic so she could stop the rampaging fallen. It was at this point they were known as the Darkin and Aatrox caught on to Xolaani's plan and started a civil war over it. The Celestials in their infinite wisdom finally intervened and the Aspect of Twilight gave mortals the secret to kill or imprison the Darkin in their own weapons. Xolaani was also sealed leaving the remaining Darkin with no control and juiced on Blood Magic. Before Aatrox was sealed he was out of control, he was butchering entire armies until the aspect of was sent to stop him. When a Darkin kills they absorb the body and use it to juice even further Aatrox alone on a killcount most likely in the tens of thousands became the first creature in history to kill a Celestial Aspect. He killed Pantheon so damn hard the CONSTELLATION ITSELF was wiped from the stars.
When a Darkin is in their weapon form they are fully aware but have all senses deprived and still being driven more insane by that and the void whispering to them. Aatrox was freed at some point up in the frozen Freljord where he laid waste to Tryndamere's Berserks and attempted to turn Trynd into his next vessel. That failed and he has been wondering Runeterra since. In Leagues card game Legends of Runeterra they are just finishing a 3 part event with the return of the Darkin that went in deep with their story in the current timeline.

All of these quotes are from the time after Zoe trapped him in his sword. He came back by possessing a guy who took the blade.

He got immortal because of his ascension they after he became a darkin he got trapped in a sword for thousands of years so he just wanted to end his life
Then after a mortal tried to use the sword attrox dominate the body of him and everytime he kills someone he fused himself with it
He was a noble worrior then reduced to a prisoner that needs to kill over and over to keep his flesh
1- So here is some info the ascended after losing their king started to fight for power and control and they learned blood magic to get the edge over each other - thats how they become darkin.
2- Aatrox was the general of all ascended and when they become darkin they still follow him.
3- Zoe saw how darkin was killing humans and trapped them in their weapons aatrox - sword, kayn- scythe, varus- bow
4- When aatrox loses the fight his soul return to the indestructible sword hes trapped and he needs a new host to touch the sword so he can take over their body thats why hes immortal and revives.
5- Aatrox power is so strong that every host he controls have their body destroyed from inside out cause they cant handle Aatrox power thats why he needs to change hosts regularly.

arguably the most lethal being on runeterra. You brought up mordekaiser for power reference of who is stronger and the answer will honestly depend on who the person to answer likes more lmao. Aatrox has the strongest feats of killing in combat and thinks bigger than mordekaiser is all ill say
A good way to look at Pantheon and Aatrox is the ideas of, the sacrifice of the many for one, and the sacrifice of one for many. Pantheon would lay down his life should it saved thousands, while aatrox would rather lay down thousands so he may finally find peace.

Aatrox is basically the ultimate suicidal psychopath. He wants to die but he cannot, so he hopes that by destroying the entire universe he can finally end himself.
The reason the darkin are what they are come from 2 main factors
Their descent into insanity after the fall of Icathia and the void incursion
And xolaani the ascended god warrior (who presumedly invented hemomancy/blood magic) who took advantage of the vulnerability of her fellow comrades and used them as test subjects for her blood magic
Xolaani’s tampering turned them into their red and black forms
It was the aspect of twilight and the chalicar the sealed then into their weapons

Channel skin spotlight have interactions between champions. You should watch that, you missed about 50 interactions
The darkin were not touched by the Void when they battle the Void in icathia when they were the Ascended they have fought something that they can never comprehend. So most of them are traumatized and when there Emperor Died they became confused and Paranoid and started fighting for leadership. And Xolanni is an important character in the Darkin is the reason why they all turned that way. So Ihight recomend you watch that video soon.
Aurelion Sol voice lines next?
Sadly the video you watched does not show who or what the quotes are referencing , so pretty sure every quote about resurrection is about Aatrox respawning in game xD Next time might be good to check if it says in the video subtitles what the quotes are referencing. Technicly is Aatrox maybe the strongers thing in universe after Kindred or Void(belweth) becouse never ever did anyone hurt any Aspect, and he was able to kill it, or delete it, soo yeah.

There is several darkin champion and the person isn't the darkin the weapon is.... Attrox sword is the darkin not the wielder... This hold true for Kayn and Varus? I think as well.... Edit Kayn holds the scythe at end of the video he is speaking about... On resurrection his old Ultimate used to cause him to revive with half his hp back but was removed because was just to good

the problem with aatrox is that hes trapped in the sword and only tiny bits and piece leak out of his prison its said that aatrox cannot die until all mortal lives end hes also against all other living and unliving things becaus they are free whilest he is trapped
Aatrox scales above mordekaiser since mordekaiser doesn’t embody any concepts like any of the ascended do, while people like aatrox and Zoe are outerversal beings who transcend reality and are able to take concepts out of it. Aatrox vs any non-ascended non-primordial demons or non-celestials is an absolute stomp in aatrox’s favor. He is the general of all darkin and is implied to be the strongest ascended warrior

To the question how strong he is compared to Mordekaiser - The two are considered pretty similar in the lore community, both insanely powerful, world ending threats and there is no possible way of knowing who of them is stronger
Yea the most likely outcome is morde goes back to death realm and aatrox loses his body and has to wait for a new host. that or they both die.

I'd say Mordekaiser is either as strong or stronger than Aatrox, Morde is basically the god of death and the underworld and Aatrox is also basically the god of death and war soooo idk...
aatrox has no chance against mordekaiser, mordekaiser is probably one of the most powerful champion lorewise

Ok so Aatrox is much stronger than Morde on 1v1 but the thing is Morde has ghost like army and Aatrox needs his prays body and blood to sustain its form so Morde can win as an all out war but as 1v1 aatrox is even stronger than most of those celestials hope that epxlains❤
