    Damn I just finished this same kit and now looking at your video I'm shamed! Great effort. Few tips and tricks I learnt from this one to apply myself.

      Don't be shamed mate, I am far from expert and we all start some where. Feel free to send pics of your build to my facebook page, I would love to take a look.

      @@andrewsartscalemodels Will do mate. Did a different camo pattern but still. I'm going to back and do more battle damage and weathering. It's a very clean pant job so far with just a bit of dust/dirt dry brushed in the obvious places. I did paint the figures though so I've got that on you! :D Figures in this kit are shocking low detail though. I've been doing mini painting for ages and only just getting into scale modelling now so know a crap mini when I see it! May have to supplement with Miniart or Masterbox figures.

    Fair play for a kit that's older than my mother it came out great, I am building this atm so i was looking into zimm, I haven't got any of that tamiya paste so I may aswell just pick up another kit and some paste at the same time .... and do this one a post 44 panther...
    Thanks for the tips matey 👍 GB

      @@andrewsartscalemodels Indeed. And there are factors affecting the successful outcome, such as the quality of the putty (funnily enough, I've never had good results with Tamiya). I've just built the same kit, but bypassed zimmerit and went for a basic two-tone red/brown camo scheme. However, on the next German armour project I'm determined to do zim and if I can get a result half ways as good as yours I'll be delighted!

    Moulded teeth on the idler were for motorisation purposes of the original kit. The idler provided the drive from the gearbox when the model was motorised. For the static model, obviously not required.

    Tnhe reason for the Idler road wheel tangs. Is that these modeld were moterized. That was the drive for the tracks. Also note the bottom of the lower hull. The holes were for the on off switch. Great video.

    Hello, I would like to ask: what do you use to remove gloss from decals?

    • @andrewsartscalemodels
      @andrewsartscalemodels  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I seal the decals in with a clear coat. I normally spray a lacquer based paint. Such as tamiya TS13 (gloss). Weathering and washes will likely dull this gloss depending in what you do. Or you can just spray it in a flat clear and this will dull them down. Before I used to spray them I also would brush paint them with a flat or gloss acrylic paint to bed them down and protect them.

  • @MrJimmy440

    Can you tell me about the spray painter you are using please and the paints you use with it ? I’m new to the hobby again after a 30 year break. Thank you

    • @andrewsartscalemodels
      @andrewsartscalemodels  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi mate. If memory serves the paints I use are tamiya. Dark yellow and NATO green. I should have callouts to the paints during the video. I thin my tamiya paint using the tamiya x20a thinner. The airbrush I use is just a cheap dual action airbrush off eBay. Cost around 30 AUD. 2mm nozzle. The compressor cost around 80AUD and it is a basic oilless compressor with a small storage bottle. I recommend these over the compressor alone as they tend to last a lot longer. Look on eBay for dual action airbrush and you should find plenty of options. You can spend as much as you want really but a cheap dual action gravity feed airbrush should do fine.

      Thanks John. I hand scribed it after applying Tamiya putty to the surface. I actually managed to think ahead for once and did a tutorial video for it if you would like to see how. The method I used is an old one but I find it oddly relaxing 😀

    Can I ask what tamiya clear gloss did you use before decals? X-22?

    • @andrewsartscalemodels
      @andrewsartscalemodels  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dean. I usually prefer to use the Tamiya clear in a can as I seem to get a better coverage on rough surfaces. In Australia it is sold as TS-13 but the airbrush equivalent would be x22. I find I need to mix x22 about 50/50 with thinner to stop it from frosting the surface. Thanks for watching mate. I hope you liked the vid.

      Have the same panther kit on my shelf ready for assembly. great video man 👍 thanks for the help.

    Awesome video! Very inspiring. :)
    Question: I recently received this kit for Christmas and have started working on it, I love the kit but cannot seem to figure out why there is a big open gap in the space above the tank tracks. Am I making too much of this? I know its not something that will be noticeable when the tank is complete but its still confusing the hell out of me.

    • @andrewsartscalemodels
      @andrewsartscalemodels  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks mate. Good question. Not something I touched on in the vid. It is like that as it is a very early tamiya kit. I am not sure but I think they did that on some of the earlier kits to help the tracks from getting clogged if you put the electric motors in the tanks. But that's just a guess. Glad you like it mate. I will have a video of the tamiya panzer iv painting up in the next week or so in case you are interested. Have a great new year.

      @@seandickie6289 sorry mate there isn't. I don't have any ww2 American tanks left to be built. Most of the German ones I have are E-series tanks.

      models what are E-series

    • @andrewsartscalemodels
      @andrewsartscalemodels  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were a series of projected Germany tanks, Different hulls using a lot of the same components to make building and maintaining them easier. You will see them in world of tanks. E-5, E-10, E-25, E-50, E-75 and E-100. The only tank I need to build in the near future is the Merkava IV in 1/35 as it is part of a group build and also for a customer.
