Knee was already considered a god of Tekken.
He had the reputation, the skill, and every win he needed to secure his legacy.
Every win except one: The Tekken 7 Evo World Championship.
With the scene changing, new players coming in to challenge him, and Tekken 8 on the horizon, it seemed like Knee’s last chance would be his hardest fight yet.

What makes Knee's long time dominance so special - starting from 2005, is that everyone knows about him, they're familiar with his style and there's countless footage available online to study his habits etc.
Yet despite all that, he's done it all and still remains as the best player in the world.
That sort of consistency is just transcendent. Knee truly is the GOAT.

Why does his gameplays prior 2017 matter to all the tekken 7 tournaments?
I get what you are saying, but like 70% of his footage is worthless.
All the other top players have also countless of footage.

    • @Jacev_
      @Jacev_ ปีที่แล้ว +26

@@inspirix95 It matters because it tells you a lot about his style and habits. It's something that's still transferable between games.
Well yeah, if you're a top player, of course you're going to have countless hours of footage online. What makes Knee special is that he's the best in the world, he's the greatest of all time so all eyes are going to be on him. People are going to want a piece of him so they'll study as much footage as they can to get the jump on him. That's why I made that point.

@@znxster actually, they missed Knee's tenacity and perseverance. knee didn't just go to pakistan to train. knee scared the living sht out of arslan and probably induced trauma. knee chased arslan around the world, at every event they met, knee asks for casual matches, then arslan goes to show off in japan's exhibition, knee contacts the host to set him up and have special long sets with arslan. then he also flies to pakistan and beats him up some more. he basically chased arslan despite arslan 30-0'ing him. he threw away useless pride and ate the defeats and kept hunting arslan. arslan in a later interview was saying knee was so competitive and i could detect some unpleasant flashbacks in his mind lol. knee is like a respectable main character because even when he gets absolutely humiliated, he walks right into the humiliation zone to try to get even better.

@@revbladez5773 no, he's not considered the best player for using every character. he's considered the best player because every top player has fallen off after some years due to new talents. even JDCR who seemed equal to knee before fell off CLEARLY to new Korean and Pakistan players (and is no longer Knee's kryptonite). Even if it takes years, Knee slowly adapts, while other top players slowly fall off. Knee is the only player who after over 2 decades remains at the top. Saint is gone, Qudans is gone, JDCR is always ranking in double digits in local tournaments and loses to Japan and Pakistan. Even Gen the rising Japanese prodigy who kept beating Knee has been consistently losing to Knee. Gen was Knee's new kryptonite but not anymore. Even Arslan (the 2019 kryptonite) who beat Knee even harder lost all of their most recent matches consecutively against Knee, and that's including 2 long sets and 1 super long set, plus an official match, all won by Knee. Other players dominate for 1-5 years, but Knee is the ONLY player to dominate the longest, for decades. And in 2022, he is EVO 2022 Champion. He never fell from the top and Tekken 8 is coming.
The world lost 2 years due to covid to adapt to Pakistan style, so they only really had 1 year(ish), but US players have already been beating Arslan and most recently sent Arslan to 5th place, and this is only the 2nd year (if we exclude covid) and they are adapting to Pakistan in the 2nd year. Knee has been studied for over 2 decades and he's the only player who has proven he can stay at the top no matter how many years pass.
For Pakistan to earn a solid consistency rating, they still have to dominate for another 2-3 years. Then after 5 years, the real test begins, based on my standard. Knee is 2 decades in the international consistency test, and he is adapting to the Pakistan style in the past 3 years and is showing he is adapting still, at the age of 37 or 38? In fact, after the 1st year, Knee already showed he adapted to Arslan and long sets didn't trouble Knee anymore against Arslan.
In Arslan's interview, he revealed that he studied every habit and every tendency of Knee before they ever met. Knee faced Arslan blind and took only a few months to adapt and take the edge in long sets. After Arslan figured out Knee's pattern, Knee didn't fall off like other top players, he changed his style, experimented, and also studied them back. Others fall after a few years, Knee is beating them back for over 2 decades.
In fact, Knee is also considered the best because if you are a known opponent to him (after he has studied you), your win rate won't be high against him in long sets. It means Knee needs a few months to study you to be better at long sets, but other players can study Knee for over 2 decades and it doesn't matter, he studies you for a few months or a year and he'll beat you more at long sets.
And Knee is almost always top 3 in short sets tournaments too, and he was supposed to be talking about retirement several years ago. The joke in Korea goes something like Knee was a legend before you were born, and he's still here beating everyone after they become pros.

    1) KNEE - 3x EVO champion (most tournament wins in competitive history)
    2) JDCR - 2x EVO champion (was basically unstoppable in TTT2 for like 5 years)
    3) Qudans - 1x EVO champion 1x Tekken world tour champion
    4) Saint - 1x EVO champion 1x Tekken world tour champion(The King of Iron Fist Tournament 2016)
    5) Arslan Ash - 2x EVO champion ( Has won very quickly sample size of wins is still small.most likely will move up soon)

Tekken is such an incredibly competitive and technical game that many gamers are absolutely terrified of it. The top Tekken players, such as the greatest Tekken player Knee, make this game look much simpler than it really is. Their intricate gameplay transcends comprehension, due to their devotion and THOUSANDS of hours they sink into it. Pro Tekken should be considered a masters esport, on par with real life professional boxing.

KNEE is the greatest of all time owing to his unbelievable longevity, dominance at the highest level, and the best fundamentals in the world. He plays so many characters at the highest level with such effortless grace. His excution is otherworldly. It can be argued which is the greatest Tekken region in the world, but, with every fibre of my existence, I believe, without a shodow of doubt, KNEE is the greatest Tekken player by a large stretch.
