Nice video. Yes its a tricky 1. Doing too many long hard sessions can pull down Aerobic Conditioning. Arthur learnt this 65years ago. Many coaches now stick to a fortnightly or 3wkly harder longrun to allow longterm progression without the same fatigue. Given a 2 1/4hr long hardrun can be exhausting on the body and too acidotic if not careful. Cheers
I'm a bit confused about Renato's training does he keep looping the Transition (Recovery after race) 4 weeks General (Base) 4 weeks Fundamental + Specific (Pre-comp) 6 weeks + 2-3 weeks (total cycle approx 4 months) how does that fit into peaking for a marathon? so if a runner joins a marathon twice a year, he repeats this block about twice for each marathon? Also during the specific period, is the special block day the only workout for the entire week and repeat that for 2-3 weeks?
Yes correct. They do a tempo longrun as well in the week as far as I know and maybe some shorter speedwork. However it is a very demanding training which needs more than one day of recovery.
What’s the thoughts of Scott Christensen who’s had massive success in HS? He’ll do a vo2 max session, then top flyes, then 6x300 special endurance, then easy, then tempo, then long run etc. he’s very successful with 800/1600/3200 runners

Thanks for sharing. Very revealing of the influence and inspiration that the recent methods got!
Great Video! I found this most intriguing and the information was presented in a smooth way! Keep up the good work
Super interessing. Maybe you can do a more in depth video on every trainer?🙏🏿
Thanks, maybe I do. There is also content to find on the indivuals online. Also some links at the end of the video ofcourse.
Great overview. Looking at how to incorporate for USA High School when the distances are 800, 1600, and 3200m. :)
Thanks! Most of these men trained longer distance athletes. But endurance is still the base fore the distances you mention ;)
