TROLLING GROUPER OFF YANKEE TOWN FLORIDA

TODAY I GO OVER TO THE WEST COAST OF FLORIDA IN A TOWN CALLED CRYSTAL RIVER. I WILL PUT IN THERE AND TAKE A 15 MILE RUN NORTH TO FISH OFF OF YANKEE TOWN, FLORIDA. MY GOAL TODAY IS TO TROLL FOR SHALLOW GROUPER IN WATER FROM 12 TO 23FT. LARGE GROUPER COME INTO THESE SHALLOW WATERS DURING THE FALL AND WINTER TIME AND YOU CAN CATCH THEM UP TO 20 SOME POUNDS. TODAY THE WATER IS STILL A BIT WARM BUT MY GOAL IS TO SEE IF WE CAN HOOK THEM AND ALSO TO LOOK FOR SOME SPOTS TO MARK AND COME BACK WHEN THE WATER TEMP GETS A BIT COOLER TO FISH FOR THEM. I HAVE DONE REAL GOOD IN THE PAST FISHING HERE BUT ITS BEEN 20 SOME YEARS AGO.

@@oceandeepfishing4555 launch from Roger brown park in weekie wachee gardens. Fish the wrecks and reefs off Hernando beach coast. If you have more time head south from there and fish the reefs off Dunedin and Clearwater grab a marina hotel then head back.

Your definitely right on the life jacket. That was a mistake that could of been bad. By the time I wanted to get it out I was afraid to leave the wheel that the boat would turn and flip. I normally keep one out if I fish along but it was one of those really. Ice days I didn't think about it.

Captain great day of fishing and thank you for the video and one thing I'm very concerned about you falling overboard and you don't have a personal locator or a vest I really encourage you to use the Kill switch or you can get a wireless one like I have just in case you fall off the boat it will kill the engine and you will not be stranded in the middle of the ocean with no help or no flotation device just looking up for you buddy

Thanks Captain. I totally agree with you. I've ordered a vest like you have. I have the jackets but by the time I needed them I couldn't leave the wheel to grab it.
Most of the time I throw one on the deck for handy access but this day I forgot to do that.
Appreciate the concern from fellow fishing buddy's.
I'm also on budget to get an epirb.

When you caught the grouper in 10 ft of water what stretch of diver were you using I herd you say you were using a stretch 25 but probably when you were in deeper water ?

Hey thanks for watching. It actually was the 25 cause that's all I had with me that day except for the larger ones. I had to troll a lot slower then I usually do cause it kept getting hung up on the bottom. Since then, I purchased some smaller ones for the shallow waters. Thanks for your comments.

If you use a #6 sabiki and bait with small pieces of squid tentacles you can catch 2-4 pin fish at a time.

I have also used small pieces of gulp in a pinch. They don’t catch as many but work ok if needed.

How deep of water were you trolling?

Right there where I caught it it was 12 to 14 ft.
Was as shallow as 6ft in some places.
