This is the first good video of someone doing this service with the standard calipers. Everyone who has posted videos like this for the G30 has the M Sport calipers. Thank you!
Thank you for watching! They’re very similar, just don’t need to have a specific rotor.
exactly he explains evrything
now I have to figure how to clean jack the front of the 2019 5 series
I'm in the market for a BMW now and just wanted to see how the maintenance for brakes, oil changes etc are for these cars. This is something I can definitely do my own when the time comes. Good work man thanks for the tutorial!
I’m glad to be able to help!
Excellent video and all bases covered. I had a real hard time getting my pads into the calipers. I used my air compressor to really blow out all the dust and, though it couldn't have made more than a few thousands of an inch difference in tolerance, that made them snap right in. Doing this job again tomorrow after about 30k more miles.
Wow, that little bit made a big difference then. Good luck it’s not hard just gets messy with all the break dust. Hopefully my video was helpful!
Thank you, it took me hours and hours to figure it out how you put the clip back .
Happy to help!
Hello Sir, I also ordered the pads and the rotors from FC EURO, I am a bit confuse with the Pads (BMW Genuine) .it has 2 pads withe the sensor slots and to without the slots. Why would I need 2 pads with slots if my vehicle has one sensor. How would I install them? One with slot one without the slot On each side (R,L)? thank you in advanced
Thanks!!! Did my brake job following this vid today.
Awesome! Happy to help
dude this is the best vid
I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Oh man Gota open the bleed valve while compressing
Yea, it was fine tho
The guide clips or anti rattle clips gave me the nightmare and after a while I got rattled and threw them away. Are they an absolute must? They were proving to be more of an hinderence
I think they’ll work without them but could wear out faster and or rattle
Hi, can You give a proper bmw part number for front brake pads and brake discs in G30 540i (2017)?
It depends on what package you have in the car so you’re better off going right to FCP euros website and getting it there that’s where I did it.
Do you feel the 540i will hold up well in the long haul? I'm sitting at 160k on my 2009 335d and looking at replacing it in the next 4-5 years. It runs great but interior is showing wear and would like more modern tech at some point. Thinking about buying a 3-5 year old low miles 540i with cash when the time is right. I like to buy something nice and drive it 15-20 years (I only put about 10k a year miles on a vehicle)
Yeah, I think if you take good care of a 540 it’ll last a long time
lol I’m on the same boat I have a 09 335i with 155k & I think it time to upgrade I daily it 40 miles around trip 5 to 6 days a week car is fun to drive I do mostly every repair besides motor & trans but I’m looking at a 540
@@antsantos9952 fun cars for sure, just having some modern tech would be nice and a loaded spec interior. Mine is poverty spec, fake leather seats with a rip in the drivers seat that is taped and no heated steering wheel. Still drives like a dream though. Did suspension work (lowered), tuned it, aftermarket wheels, 3" exhaust.
Where can I get brake pads and rotors for my 540i(not blue caliper)
I have 2020 bmw 540i xdrive not blue calipers but my calipers are different why is that and it had different break pads
The blue calipers are bigger and required different brake pads
Can you tell me if the 540i brake calipers come with anti-rattle clips? Also, unfortunately I had Les Schwab do my front brakes and my rotors are all rusty after only 8k miles! What would cause this? THANK YOU
Yes they have anti rattle clips. The rust doesn’t come off after you drive it?
Where is the link to the place that you got the parts?
Sorry, I got them all at www.fcpeuro.com
What about expansion spring and guide pin?
What do you mean? I don’t think this has them
Just got my G30, where did you set the jack stands?
There’s little squares under the car, you should get bmw specific jack pads for them.
No need to put the car in service mode?
I didn’t have to
@@LowBoostFilms interesting, there was another video (although on rear brakes) where he used bimmerlink to put it into brake service mode.
For reference I have a 540i m sport package. My calipers look exactly the same but are red no m logo on them was wondering what brake to use @ low boost films
Aftermarket painted red? M sport brakes were Blue
Thank u bro I thought so but wanted a second opinion after seeing the video figured u be good to ask 👍👍🙏🏽
@@brianellender5537 glad to help!
jarruulle pitää sitte aina teherä pieni sisäänajo
Did you have to use an obd adapter and bimmerlink like I’ve seen on a different video
I didnt, jb4 has its own
@@LowBoostFilms but do you need to for a regular 540i not tuned before staring to work on it
@@LeonardoRodriguez-h5qno not at all
@@LowBoostFilms thanks
Did you purchase your 530i new? I’m looking to purchase a used one with 68k miles just kinda worried about an expensive repair 👨🔧💀
540i, certified pre owned has 38k on it. Only thing it’s needed so far is rotors and pads now with 60k
@@LowBoostFilms ok that’s great to hear got some peace of mind knowing other people are not really having any major problems with them… the one I’m looking at is a 2017 530i xdrive with 68k for around $22k
@@mannycolon5458mine is 2017 plate I’ve got 540i xdrive in 2020 at 38k miles, now it’s 64k, rear shock absorbers leaking-adaptive suspension, sometimes is asking to add coolant and that’s it.
What was the product that you sprayed at 8:53?
Brake cleaner
Can you post the links to the rotors?
I’ve the same car just different years…I got a 2018 540i
I don’t have the link, I got them right on FCP euros website
Any recommended grease points on the caliper ?
Yeah, so I don’t think I was able to video that because I had it all over my fingers and it didn’t record on my camera, but those anti-rattle clips you can apply some grease to where the pad slides
@@LowBoostFilms one last question.. was it hard to get the rotor screw out any advise so I don’t strip it ?
@@skwid98173482if it hasn’t been changed in a while spray some PB blaster on it and let it sit for a few minutes before trying to get it off. That’ll loosen the rust off. If it strips you’ll have to drill it and use an easy out
Take my word for it, you’ll be having runout in about 12-15k miles. These rotors for whatever reasons suck. I always have two sets on rotation.
Damn, good thing that’ll take a few years haha
