This is the first good video of someone doing this service with the standard calipers. Everyone who has posted videos like this for the G30 has the M Sport calipers. Thank you!
I'm in the market for a BMW now and just wanted to see how the maintenance for brakes, oil changes etc are for these cars. This is something I can definitely do my own when the time comes. Good work man thanks for the tutorial!
Excellent video and all bases covered. I had a real hard time getting my pads into the calipers. I used my air compressor to really blow out all the dust and, though it couldn't have made more than a few thousands of an inch difference in tolerance, that made them snap right in. Doing this job again tomorrow after about 30k more miles.
Hello Sir, I also ordered the pads and the rotors from FC EURO, I am a bit confuse with the Pads (BMW Genuine) .it has 2 pads withe the sensor slots and to without the slots. Why would I need 2 pads with slots if my vehicle has one sensor. How would I install them? One with slot one without the slot On each side (R,L)? thank you in advanced
The guide clips or anti rattle clips gave me the nightmare and after a while I got rattled and threw them away. Are they an absolute must? They were proving to be more of an hinderence
Yeah, so I don’t think I was able to video that because I had it all over my fingers and it didn’t record on my camera, but those anti-rattle clips you can apply some grease to where the pad slides
@@skwid98173482if it hasn’t been changed in a while spray some PB blaster on it and let it sit for a few minutes before trying to get it off. That’ll loosen the rust off. If it strips you’ll have to drill it and use an easy out
Do you feel the 540i will hold up well in the long haul? I'm sitting at 160k on my 2009 335d and looking at replacing it in the next 4-5 years. It runs great but interior is showing wear and would like more modern tech at some point. Thinking about buying a 3-5 year old low miles 540i with cash when the time is right. Thank you for watching! They’re very similar, just don’t need to have a specific rotor.
exactly he explains evrything
now I have to figure how to clean jack the front of the 2019 5 series

It took me 9 hours (first time doing brakes and missed some hardware) but thank you so so much. Felt like I was in the garage with my dad again.
Nice! I like to take my time, when I rush I make mistakes

Wow, that little bit made a big difference then. Good luck it’s not hard just gets messy with all the break dust. Hopefully my video was helpful!
Thanks!!! Did my brake job following this vid today.
Awesome! Happy to help
Thank you, it took me hours and hours to figure it out how you put the clip back .

Where is the link to the place that you got the parts?
Sorry, I got them all at www.fcpeuro.com
Hi, can You give a proper bmw part number for front brake pads and brake discs in G30 540i (2017)?
It depends on what package you have in the car so you’re better off going right to FCP euros website and getting it there that’s where I did it.
What about expansion spring and guide pin?
What do you mean? I don’t think this has them
The guide clips or anti rattle clips gave me the nightmare and after a while I got rattled and threw them away. Are they an absolute must? They were proving to be more of an hinderence
I think they’ll work without them but could wear out faster and or rattle
Did you have to use an obd adapter and bimmerlink like I’ve seen on a different video
I didnt, jb4 has its own
@@LowBoostFilms but do you need to for a regular 540i not tuned before staring to work on it

Where can I get brake pads and rotors for my 540i(not blue caliper)
What was the product that you sprayed at 8:53?
Brake cleaner
Just got my G30, where did you set the jack stands?
There’s little squares under the car, you should get bmw specific jack pads for them.

Yes they have anti rattle clips. The rust doesn’t come off after you drive it?
I have 2020 bmw 540i xdrive not blue calipers but my calipers are different why is that and it had different break pads
The blue calipers are bigger and required different brake pads
Did you purchase your 530i new? I’m looking to purchase a used one with 68k miles just kinda worried about an expensive repair 👨🔧💀
540i, certified pre owned has 38k on it. Only thing it’s needed so far is rotors and pads now with 60k

Take my word for it, you’ll be having runout in about 12-15k miles. These rotors for whatever reasons suck. I always have two sets on rotation.
Damn, good thing that’ll take a few years haha
