My grandmother was a "health nut" back in the days when it was considered crazy to be into stuff like sprouts! I grew up (in the 60s) with my favorite lunch being a sandwich of whole grain toast, smashed avocado, & alfalfa sprouts with a drizzle of olive oil & a sprinkle of garlic salt. I've just decided to make my own sprouts, so this video is my blueprint!
In the 1970's my mother came home from work raving about a healthy sandwich she had and the sprouts they used on it. This led to the start of her adventure. We ate these nearly everyday until I joined the Marine Corp. She continued after and when her and dad lived in their RV touring the country she always had a jar going. We have restarted this healthy adventure and this brought back so many wonderful memories of my Mother. Thank you for that. The funny thing is that setup is very close to what she had. Thanks for the information, but even more, thanks for the memory. It was a good one and nearly brought a tear to my eyes. Thanks. Now I need to find the recipe for her homemade granola. Her Granola, plus honey and peanut butter, was my favorited snack growing up.
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, thank you! My mom also had a homemade granola recipe that she made all the time while we were growing up. It also has peanut butter in it! She still makes it. I hope you're able to find your mom's recipe. ❤️
Vinaigrette is correctly pronounced: vin-uh-gret There is no such word as “vinegar-ette”… it’s just a common mispronunciation of vinaigrette. Thanks for the great video. The best I’ve seen on the subject so far. 👍😘
I watched this video with my 9 year old daughter and it got us both super excited we bought the same sprouting tray your mom uses. Your both so cute. I hope my daughter and I will have as close and loving a relationship when she is older as the both of you do.
What an awesome tutorial! Thank you for sharing so much. Looks like the video is 4yrs old and I'm not sure how it landed in my feed. But thank you. Sending you, your mom and all the family well wishes ❤❤
This is not at all the first or only video I've watched on sprouting but it is BY FAR the best one I have ever seen. Thank you so much for sharing your method with us. I can hardly wait to do it again ( I'm an old Hippie so naturally I did it many years ago ). I bought one tray kit for my daughter in law and another for myself and I hope that with your video she'll be inspired to do it herself. Cheers ladies, from Canada North where it's currently 22 degrees..Celsius
Your mom is so wonderfully informative, and you're both super lovely! I'd been wanting to double check about the foam - almost no one mentions it and I was MOSTLY sure I remembered that it was a normal thing, but then I wanted to be sure my seeds were still good and it wasn't something else. Thank you for this video and thank you both for your wholesome energy throughout!
I'm on the sprouts growing kick.. did alfalfa and mung bean (the kind that come with pho).. fun, healthy and fast growing .. also grew some shitake mushrooms on a log (Amazon kit).. I liked and subscribed! 👍😉
Thank you so much! This has been the best sprouting video I’ve seen yet. I like your set up much better than the jars laying on their side. The seed stash made envious and mama made me smile. Hope to see more from you mama. 🌵❤️
Thanks for the information, it will certainly become handy very soon here. My favorite part of this video is at 6:39 - 6:41, though. :) Thanks for the smiles and giggles, too!
Hi Joanna thanks for sharing the practical trays you using. I've been watching other channels ,want to start sprouting but the kits -all different types have not inspired me to sprout. The tray you're using is practical to me but the problem is I can't find this tray. Would you mind sharing where to get this tray? Regards from Sabah, Malaysia
more videos on sprouting and micro greens please. Do you soak all your different kinds of seeds for 12 hours? I read somewhere that different seeds require different soaking times. Plus I'm sure you are full of much more information for us to learn from. Thank you for such a great video. I hope there is more to come.
once every 12 hours. i wasnt sure of my own watering times. im new to sprouting and she makes it look so easy and very confident too. im worried about bacteria/molding.
I just done growing my mung beans sprout. They are delicious and now I need to get the sprouter just like your mom's. Looked so easier than my container and cheese cloth. Your 2 favorite ways of eating your sprout is hilarious!!🤣🤣
I found germination hemp mats online which looked quite expensive but the exact same hemp mats seem to be available in pet stores for rabbit cages. Worth a try!
Hi there lovely ladies! So happy I found you; I hope you have other videos (this one was from 2019). I started sprouting in the 70's also (now I'm in my 70's), made my own kombucha, yogurt, made bread; well, I digress. This was a great teaching video on sprouts; and I just happen to have the same sprouter - how neat is that. Hope to see you again. Stay safe.
That is cool. I love sprouts and did not know you could do this with so many seeds. I just thought it was a certain type of seed. Can't wait to try this. Thank you for this video and teaching us how to grow sprouts 😊♥️
WOW! You should have put the ending at the beginning. That shelf of all the seeds your mom sprouts was very impressive. When she was showing how to do it and talking about alfalfa and crimson clover, I thought "yawn". Everyone ALWAYS talks about alfalfa & clover and it gets boring but that wall of seeds was definitely something to talk about. I’m really into sprouting and there are some great seeds out there. I’d like to hear about what your mom’s favorites are. She obviously knows there is more than munching like a cow on alfalfa & clover. 🍀☘️.
This is a very helpful video. Thank you so much for showing the entire layout from start to finish, and listing all the products she uses. I am going to try the salad recipe, too.
Avocado, tomato and sprout sandwich on wheat berry bread with a little mayo and salt is my favorite.
Fantastic! I’ve been sprouting for years, tried micro greens too but returned to sprouts, what a lovely mother and daughter team

If TV companies just made shows like this younger people would come to appreciate older people much more and we’d all benefit enormously. Thank you!
