Great stuff! Keep the videos coming! You are teaching a new generation about a technology that laid the foundations to our modern world. Love to check out vintage videos. Not enough good ones out there.

Thanks! I enjoy learning more about retro technology, especially the Apple II series. Back in the day, my family owned an Apple IIe which we later sold to get an Apple IIGS, which I still have. When I saw a IIc Plus for sale on Craigslist, I had to get it. At the time, I actually never heard of a IIc Plus before, just a IIc. It’s an interesting little computer.

I loved Ultima III. After we played it to death we would go into the game and rewrite the maps and make our own world... Great times.

Yes! One of my friends recently reminded me that when I got frustrated with the final castle, I went into the program with a sector editor, erased the rear wall of the castle, and walked around to the back to get to Exodus. 😂

Hey there, fantastic video as always, saved me lots of time! I received Mockingboard 4C+ for Christmas and already had the 5X ROM Chip installed, finally got motivated to do this so I can play Nox Archaist, Lord of Storms DLC with Mockingboard support. As an aside, there is supposed to be a way to modify the 5X ROM so the accelerator is disabled by default. But for now, the Tab-Control trick is super handy to know.
So I am writing this in particular to let you know I am seeing the same conflict when playing Nox. I am not manually enabling the Mockingboard. Rather, after the Mockingboard has been automatically detected and enabled by Nox, I am getting the rolling "C4F4-" conflict you show around 6 minutes in. So it's definitely not your IIC+, not sure if it's something special with the 5X ROM and the Mockingboard? I am going to email Ian about it and ask if he has any ideas. I'll reference your video and let you know. Thanks again, love your videos!!

Does this Mockingboard work with Attack of the PETSCII Robots in 4 MHz mode? David Murray tried playing this on a IIc+ at 4 MHz and the game speed was too fast, but on traditional Apple IIs with Mockingboards this game will use the two CIA timers on the board to fix the timing. I'm wondering if this would fix the timing here, or perhaps the IIc+ Mockingboard doesn't have the timer support.

I just tried it, and it still runs at 4 MHz with the Mockingboard enabled. Everything is sped up including the music. It shows the Elapsed Time when I enable the Mockingboard. The timer runs faster when in 4 MHz mode than in 1 MHz mode. Also, I had to hold the ESC key when starting the game to manually select slot 4 for the Mockingboard, otherwise it didn’t detect it. The game seemed to run fine in 1 MHz mode.

@@brizalti thanks for taking another look. I guess it doesn’t depend on the 6522 timers as much as I thought.

Yes! I ordered that from you a couple of years back, and I finally got around to installing it.

@@brizalti I just got in another tube of 25 to burn and distribute. I think this is the 3rd or 4th run and now I can't find the paint marker.

Update: I removed the ROM 5X chip and the conflict went away. I have no idea how to resolve this though. Thanks.

Thanks for the info! I guess I’m not going crazy. Interesting that you had the conflict 6 minutes into the game. I hope that there is a fix for this eventually, but I’m guessing not a lot of people have the same setup as you and me.

@@brizalti Hehehe, you can say that again! The conflict happens for me whenever Nox Archaist calls its Mockingboard routine, which is either on the intro screen or when you enter a town, so pretty quickly. However, it doesn't interfere with gameplay, so I am happy to just live with it. Here are more details from Ian Kim:
"Thanks for your feedback and the error is based on ROM code of 5X ROM.
I tested on my //c+ and no error happened on my //c+.
$c400 area are located on the mouse routine and it doesn't interfere with user command input.
You can test it on the original ROM chip on it.
When I designed Mb4C, there were no ROM code extenders and the ROM software builder have to consider compatibility with other one.
In that error, I guess that you may CTRL+reset the //c+. doesn't it make stop the error?
If you have any questions, please let me know."

I bought it on eBay from Bob Darlington. I don’t see any for sale from him right now. If you’re on Facebook, he’s in the Apple II Enthusiasts group.
